Ross named starting RT

With all due respect I always enjoy your point of view on the Cardinals, but Freeney and the Colts starters hardly played in that last game of the season last year.

Oh, I haven't forgotten that. Freeney played a quarter and a half, but he was going hard because he wanted the sack title. Everyone thought he would just tear up Ross in the lead up to the game, but Ross did okay.

But, I'm not going to defend Ross very much. He's been below average to average.

Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green has officially announced that OT Oliver Ross will be the team's starting right tackle heading into Week 3.

What's with Gorin? Wasn't he good enough to start the last two seasons?

I'm skeptical of Ross based on last year, but I want to see him play before I start ripping him. Ross was basicly injured all last year, and in the games he actually played he lined up next to a sub-par player (rookie Elton, Wakefield and Bridges).

I'm pretty confident that Ross is much better than what we saw last year. Everyone is ripping Graves/Bidwill for being cheap. Do you honestly think that they paid Ross $3.5M a year, if they coaching staff didn't believe he was capable of being a starter?

Logically, I have to give Ross the benefit of doubt on this one. Let's hope for the best and see how he plays before hitting the panic buttom...

I don't understand the reaction to this. It's been known since april that Ross would be the starting RT. They never looked to replace him, only tried to add depth at OT.

Could Ross's problems stemmed from his injuries? When he came back from the first injury and still played badly, could it have been because he still "wasn't right?" Now that he's had additional procedures and rehab, is it now possible that he's pain free and will be able to go out and do what he presumably was doing when he was with the Steelers?

a fine subject to discuss this sunday around 7.30 edt....i have a hard time believing that ross forgot how to play or his skills diminished as much as it may appear WITHOUT a potential injury he did not disclose...but we will see...by the way jeff...last night la russa gets part of the blame for the loss....

I don't think Ross was ever 100% last season, so I'm expecting he'll be much improved. Had to say if he ever will reach the production level that he had with the Steelers, because their system is better suited to him.

maybe we will be in store for a pleasant surprise this week!!! in reviewing some of the games from the end of the year, you are on the mark with your comment...we as a group are so obsessed with the less than average play of the line that we are swinging at every and anything...if the skill positions were not as good as they are we would have some faster moving targets to swipe at.

Yet here he is, warming the bench in Arizona. Go figure.

DOH! That's right... But at that point he was buried at about 4th option on their depth chart.

However my point remains... His fall from favor had a reason behind it. Could be the same reason keeping him off the field now!

I am excited he is back this week and the projected starting O-Line is finally out on the field taking it to the Rams!

The problem running the football against SF was that the Cards didn't seal off the back side. Adjustments were made and they did that against Seattle.

The problem running the football against Seattle was that Totupu and Peterson are just mad linebackers. Totupu was especially tough.

Yup, IMO these five will be the starters for a while until Lutui is ready to start. When he is, Wells takes over at C.

Big - Lutui - Wells - Brown - Ross. I think/hope that will be a decent unit.

I think this is going to be the last year for Ross. He keeps getting a chance to start because he was given a ton of money and touted as a huge free agent signing. The guy has done nothing but stink up the place ever since he's been here. He had one decent game all of last year. The rest of the games he was terrible. He gets penalized more than BIG and is the perfect example of a swinging gate. I hope the Cardinals are smart enough to keep a tightend and or a runningback to help Ross out all game or this could be Kurt Warners last game of the year.
