Sydney Cottrell hit a two-run single in the first inning and a two-run home run in the fourth Friday as the Heath softball team handed Lakewood its first loss in the host Bulldogs’ 11-5 victory in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Cottrell finished 3 for 3 and scored four runs. Kylie Green, Megan DeVito and Sophia Yanka also homered for the Bulldogs (7-4, 4-0).

Green was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Yanka added two hits and two runs. Shelby Moore allowed just three runs after Lakewood took an early 2-0 lead.

Carly Williams and Cora Redman totaled three hits and a run apiece for the Lancers (9-1, 3-1). Jaycie Montie homered, driving in two runs, and Averie Adams added two hits, a run and an RBI.

Trouten lifts Watkins​


Kylie Trouten’s two-run home with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Watkins Memorial a 5-4 victory against visiting Mount Vernon in LCL-Buckeye play.

Trouten scored an additional run, and Marissa Weber added two hits and a run, Gracie Gerhardt a double and two runs and Kendal Tellings a hit and an RBI for the Warriors (6-2, 3-1). Tellings allowed one earned run in a five-hitter.

Valley beats Granville​


Emory Whisner struck out eight in a five-inning no-hitter, pitching Licking Valley to a 13-0 victory at Granville (4-5, 1-3) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Addison Justice homered and drove in three runs for the Panthers (7-2, 4-0). Whisner added two hits, two runs and four RBIs, Chloe Cooperider two hits, a run and an RBI, Liz Korns two hits and an RBI and Tori Baughman two hits and two runs for the Panthers.

NC wins at Northridge​


Addison Gerber recorded three hits and three runs out of the leadoff spot, fueling Newark Catholic in a 17-0 victory at Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Joanna Snider homered, and she and Jahni Whitney totaled two hits, two runs and two RBIs apiece for the Green Wave (4-4, 2-2), and Brooklyn Kurtz Merricks added two hits, a run and two RBIs and Avery Sullivan a hit, two runs and an RBI. Veronica Bailey struck out 10 in a five-inning no-hitter.

Camryn Moore drew two walks for the Vikings (4-5, 0-3).

Johnstown beats Utica​


Lucia Kuhn struck out three and scattered six hits, pitching Johnstown to a 7-1 victory against visiting Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Addy Zak singled and scored two runs, and Abigail Wood and Emma McGeehan added a hit, a run and an RBI apiece, Jenna Hochanadel a hit and an RBI and Cam Bollinger two runs and an RBI for the Johnnies (5-5, 1-2).

Baleigh Torrens led Utica (3-4, 1-2) with two hits, and Avery Rine and Makenna Wilson each singled. Cheyenne Smith allowed one earned run in four innings of relief.

Heights wins at home​


Lydia Rauch piled up three hits, three runs and two RBIs in Licking Heights’ 19-2 victory against visiting Zanesville in LCL-Buckeye play.

Hailey Anderson added two hits, a run and four RBIs, Serenity Gutridge a home run and three RBIs, Ava Von Bargen two hits and two runs and Savanna Christ a triple and three runs for the Hornets (4-5, 2-2). Natalie Mahoney struck out 12 in five two-hit innings.

BASEBALL​

Lakewood rallies at Heath​


Colton Ferry and Carson Anderson led off a three-run sixth inning with hits and eventually scored on an error as Lakewood slipped past host Heath for a 3-2 victory in LCL-Cardinal play.

Carter Davis’ squeeze bunt scored Jalen White to give the Lancers (3-1, 2-1) the lead. Davis struck out seven and allowed just one earned run in a two-hitter.

Connor Corbett had a hit and a run and Tannar Patterson a hit and an RBI for the Bulldogs (3-1, 2-1). Kanin Brown allowed two earned runs and struck out three in five innings, and Preston DeVito retired all five batters he faced in relief.

Johnstown nips Utica​


Erik Marohl’s fourth hit drove in Landon Myers in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Johnstown a 4-3 victory against visiting Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Marohl previously drove in Myers in the fifth inning, and Sam Marasek added two hits and Jackson Ryan a hit and an RBI for the Johnnies (4-1, 2-1). Garrett Pernod struck out seven and allowed two hits and one earned run in 6 1/3 innings.

Gavin Tussey tied the game with a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh for Utica (0-6, 0-2). Gaige Spray added a hit, a run and an RBI and Elijah Bland and Weston Simon a run apiece.

NC beats Northridge​


Kane Stephey struck out seven in a two-hitter, pitching Newark Catholic to a 7-1 victory at Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Hal Gillespie notched a hit and two RBIs, Mikey Hess a double and a run and Malone Hutchison and Owen Przymierski two runs apiece for the Green Wave (4-2, 1-2).

Sawyer Miller struck out 10 in five no-hit innings and allowed one earned run for the Vikings (3-2, 0-2). Brice Beaver and Noah Mason each doubled.

Watkins wins at home​


Bradley Vincent’s RBI triple highlighted a three-run first inning in Watkins Memorial’s 4-2 victory against visiting Mount Vernon in LCL-Buckeye play.

Tyler Vincent added a hit, a run and an RBI, Dylan Gray a hit and a run and Jax Dotson a hit and an RBI for the Warriors (3-3, 2-1). Logan Grezlik allowed four hits and one earned run in six innings, and Kaden Barrows threw a hitless seventh for the save.

BOYS TENNIS​

Watkins wins​


Chase Smith and Parker Carte won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0, completing Watkins Memorial’s 4-1 victory against Big Walnut.

Gavin Adelman and Nathan Walter also won at No. 1 doubles, 7-6, 6-3. Singles winners for the Warriors (6-0) were Graham Smith, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 and Michael Hare, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2.

GIRLS LACROSSE​

Granville beats Fairmont​


Edi Fisher scored four goals Thursday, leading Granville to a 12-7 victory against visiting Fairmont.

Ellie Brower added three goals, Evie Sanders two and Brecken Kennedy, Mabel Messner and Camryn Goss one each with Kennedy distributing a team-best three assists for the Blue Aces (2-2). Ellie Alexander made nine saves, and Sanders and Meredith Vilvens each caused three turnovers.
