Roundup: Lichtenauer throws gem in Licking Valley baseball shutout of Watkins Memorial

Evan Lichtenauer fired a four-hit shutout April 21, striking out nine without a walk, pitching the Licking Valley baseball team to a 2-0 victory against visiting Watkins Memorial in Licking County League-Buckeye Division play.

Brandt Lichtenauer delivered an RBI single to break a scoreless tie with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and Zane Hancock singled and Adam West doubled, leading to a run in the sixth. Silas Kyle also scored a run for the Panthers (9-3, 6-1), who remained in a first-place tie with Granville.

Brayden Windnagel struck out eight and allowed five hits and one earned run for the Warriors (5-5, 4-3). Aydan Guthrie singled twice.

Newark wins on road​

Hunter Hammond struck out six in four two-hit innings of relief, pitching Newark to a 9-3 victory at Reynoldsburg in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Bodie Smith led the Wildcats (4-3, 4-1) with two hits, three runs and two RBIs. Moses Crane added three hits, including two doubles, and two runs, Seth Fish two hits and two runs and Aidan Hamilton a double, a run and two RBIs.

NC blanks Johnstown​

Owen Przymierski struck out nine in a five-inning one-hit shutout, pitching Newark Catholic to a 10-0 victory against visiting Johnstown in LCL-Cardinal play.

Kane Stephey doubled twice, scored a run and knocked in three for the Green Wave (6-4, 3-4). Jaxon Holman and Alex Nagel also each doubled, combining for three hits, two runs and two RBIs, and Andy Gossett and Mikey Hess added a hit and two runs apiece.

Braeden Archibald singled for the Johnnies (6-5, 3-4).

Heath wins at Utica​

Quentin Sunkle and Macksen Matthews recorded two hits and an RBI apiece, combining for three runs in Heath’s 6-2 victory at Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Carter Mason added a hit and three RBIs and Preston DeVito a hit and two runs for the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-2). DeVito struck out two in six seven-hit innings, and Tannar Patterson struck out the final three batters to seal it.

Elijah Bland hit a two-run home run for Utica (2-10, 1-5). Aidyn Burgess added a hit and a run, and Braxton Fisher struck out five and allowed three earned runs.

Lakewood pulls away​

Evan Moore hit a two-run double and Jalen White a two-run single, highlighting Lakewood’s seven-run fifth inning to break open a 10-2 victory against visiting Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Colton Ferry added a double and a single, a run and an RBI and Stephen Slocum a hit and an RBI for the first-place Lancers (9-2, 6-1), who maintained their one-game lead on Heath. Moore allowed one earned run in three innings before Carter Davis struck out four in four one-hit innings.

Riley Reeves doubled and scored, and Alex Wright singled and scored for the Vikings (4-6, 0-6).

Granville blanks Zanesville​

Wilson Wells homered and doubled, knocking in three runs for Granville in a 10-0 victory at Zanesville in LCL-Buckeye play.

Jakob Culver added three hits, a run and two RBIs, Lewis Turner a double, two runs and two RBIs and Jacob Smith a hit and two RBIs for the Blue Aces (9-2, 6-1). Luke Bosse struck out eight in a five-inning one-hit shutout.

Heights falls on road​

A 10-run fifth inning for Mount Vernon (7-5, 4-3) sent visiting Licking Heights to a 16-6 defeat in LCL-Buckeye play.

Grady Stephens doubled and singled and drove in two runs for the Hornets (1-9, 0-6). Payton Pennington added a double, two runs and an RBI and Brady Pennington a hit; a run and an RBI.

SOFTBALL​

Newark wins at Logan​

Lexi Shanaberg homered and drove in three runs, powering Newark to a 7-6 victory at Logan in OCC-Buckeye play.

Karma Wells added two hits and a run, Audrey Lennon a double, a run and two RBIs and Mallory Back a hit and two runs for the Wildcats (5-12, 5-4). Amora Spring struck out five and allowed four hits.

Lakewood wins at home​

Carly Williams, Cora Redman and Lauren Griffin each went 3 for 3, combining for six runs and six RBIs for Lakewood in a 17-6 victory against visiting Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Redman homered, and Riley Williams and Jaycie Montie added two hits and three RBIs apiece and Averie Adams two hits and two RBIs for the Lancers (13-2, 6-2), who are ranked No. 5 in Division IV in the latest state coaches poll.

Ellie Reese led the Vikings (4-10, 0-8) with two hits, a run and two RBIs. Cheyann Severance added a hit and two RBIs and Kadance Adkins a double and a run.

Johnstown blanks NC​

Lucia Kuhn struck out eight without a walk, firing a one-hit shutout in Johnstown’s 2-0 victory at Newark Catholic in LCL-Cardinal play.

Addy Zak tripled and singled, scored a run and drove in one for the Johnnies (5-7, 4-4). Riley Stefanick added a hit and a run.

Alyssa Rothweiler struck out two in four one-hit innings of relief for the Green Wave (4-7, 2-5). Veronica Bailey singled.

Granville wins at Zanesville​

Carly Wollenberg and Avary King each racked up three hits, including a double, and combined for four runs and six RBIs in Granville’s 14-0 victory at Zanesville (0-11, 0-8) in LCL-Buckeye play. Aubrey Lackey added two hits, a run and an RBI and Megan Lodge a hit, two runs and an RBI for the Blue Aces (6-7, 3-5). Lodge also struck out 10 of the 12 batters she faced.

BOYS TENNIS​

Watkins edged​

Watkins Memorial had its 26-match regular season winning streak dating to 2023 snapped in a 3-2 loss to Pickerington Central.

Gavin Adelman and Nathan Walter were victorious at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 7-6. Wyatt Meade added a victory at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, for the Warriors (10-1).
