A trio of pitchers combined to strike out 15 in a two-hitter Friday, giving the Northridge baseball team a 5-3 season-opening victory at Danville.

Sam Miller struck out eight in three no-hit innings. Will Higgins and Kash Reeves followed, throwing two innings of relief apiece with Reeves striking out four and allowing no hits.

Noah Mason led the Vikings with two hits and two runs. Collin Matheson added a triple, two runs and an RBI, Brice Beaver two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Alex Wright a hit, a run and an RBI.

Valley wins pair​


Evan Lichtenauer fired a one-hit shutout, pitching Licking Valley to a 3-0 victory against Revere at Myrtle Beach.

Lichtenauer struck out 11 against just one walk. The Panthers (2-0) scored all three of their runs in the top of the seventh inning as Carter Sopher’s two-out two-run single to score Brandt Lichtenauer and pinch-runner Griffin Williams to break the scoreless tie.

Evan Lohr and Zane Hancock each tripled and doubled, combining for six hits, five runs and three RBIs in Valley’s earlier 11-1 victory against Chagrin Falls. Brandt Lichtenauer added three hits and two runs, Evan Roberts and Charlie Facemire combined for nine strikeouts.

NC cruises to win​


Owen Przymierski struck out 11 in a five-inning two-hit shutout, pitching Newark Catholic to a 13-0 victory in the season opener against visiting Berkshire.

Miller Hutchison led the Green Wave with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Alex Nagel added two hits, three runs and two RBIs, Kane Stephey two hits, a run and three RBIs and Malone Hutchison a double, a run and two RBIs.

GCA rolls​


Jake Fabbro homered and scored three runs in Granville Christian’s 14-0 victory in the season opener against Cristo Rey at Berliner Park.

Layton Sheppard added two hits, two runs and three RBIs, Aiden Geiger two hits, three runs and an RBI and Aidan Rhoads a hit, two runs and two RBIs for the Lions. Matthew Riedel, Geiger and Crete Johnson combined to strike out 10 in five one-hit innings.

Watkins splits​


Bradley Vincent struck out 10 and allowed just one hit in 4 2/3 scoreless innings, pitching Watkins Memorial to a 5-1 victory at Station Camp (Tenn.).

Tyler Vincent totaled two hits, a run scored and an RBI out of the leadoff spot, and Cody York added a hit and two runs and Aydan Guthrie a hit and an RBI for the Warriors (1-1). Kaden Barrows struck out six over the final 2 ⅓ innings.

Earlier, Logan Grezlik struck out four and allowed no earned runs in 3 ⅔ innings of relief in a 3-1 loss to Knights Baseball Academy (Tenn.). Dylan Gray recorded two hits and an RBI, and Guthrie and Cam Burt two hits apiece.

Utica falls in Alabama​


Aidyn Burgess and Gaige Spray combined for three doubles in Utica’s 11-6 season-opening loss at Hoover (Ala.).

Spray scored a run and drove in a run for Utica. Weston Simon and Connor Garee added a hit, a run and an RBI apiece and Elijah Bland a hit and two RBIs.

Heights drops opener​


Grady Stephens notched two hits and an RBI for Licking Heights in its 12-1 season-opening loss to visiting Chardon.

Brady Pennington doubled and scored for the Hornets. Dom Yosick struck out two and allowed one run in 2 ⅓ innings of relief.

SOFTBALL​

Johnstown wins opener​


Lucia Kuhn hit two doubles and knocked in five runs, powering Johnstown to an 11-1 victory against visiting Philo in its season opener.

Jenna Hochanadel added two hits, including a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Johnnies, and Addy Zak two hits and three runs, Riley Stefanick two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs and Abigail Wood two hits and an RBI. Stefanick struck out seven in a six-hitter.

Granville wins in seventh​


Sydney Cottrill totaled two hits, three runs and two RBIs for Granville, which rallied for two runs in the seventh inning to beat visiting Amanda-Clearcreek 12-11.

Sophia Patena recorded three hits, two runs and an RBI for the Blue Aces. Megan Lodge added a home run and two RBIs, Carly Wollenberg a double, two runs and an RBI and Bella Metcalf a hit, a run and an RBI.

Watkins wins at home​


Kendal Tellings was a perfect 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs in Watkins Memorial’s 11-7 victory against visiting Circleville.

Alli Langwasser, Gracie Gerhardt and Bryna Davis each homered with Langwasser knocking in three runs, and Carlie Taggart added two hits and two runs for the Warriors (1-1). Jacy Severance struck out six and allowed no earned runs in five three-hit innings.

Heath nipped on road​


Shelby Moore threw three innings of one-hit relief, striking out three for Heath in a 5-4 loss at Tri-Valley.

Kyndall Spicer recorded three hits, including a home run and a double, driving in a pair for the Bulldogs (1-2). Sydney Cottrell added a solo home run and Sophia Yanka a hit and a run.

NC falls on road​


Jahni Whitney threw 3 ⅓ scoreless innings of relief for Newark Catholic in a 10-0 loss at Bloom-Carroll.

Veronica Bailey singled for the Green Wave (2-2).

Newark wins opener​


Isaac Devries and Bradley Pastorius rallied for a three-set victory, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 to complete Newark’s 4-1 victory in the season-opening match at Goshen.

Viktor Gleckler and Grayson Boyer also won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-4. Singles winners for the Wildcats were Evan Devries, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 1 and Kellen Grace, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3.

BOYS LACROSSE​

Johnstown beats Canal​


Grady Balog won 13 of 14 faceoffs in Johnstown’s 11-3 victory at Canal Winchester.

Will Taylor led the Johnnies (2-1) with five goals and also fielded nine ground balls, and Mark Hettinger and A.J. Hollis added two goals apiece and Adrian Melfi and Warren Miller one apiece with Miller collecting two assists. Ben Smith made 11 saves.

Heights drops road match​


Jaden Peach totaled six kills and four assists for Licking Heights on Thursday in a loss at St. Charles, 25-13, 25-14, 25-21.

Cleveland Brown Jr. added eight assists and six digs and Alieu Bojang three kills for the Hornets.
