Does anyone watch Royal Pains? I saw an episode last week and thought it was pretty funny.

My wife likes it alot....the brother is just too much of a jackwagon for my taste. The east Indian lady is nice to look at though, I must say.

I like all of USA's shows. Great idea and an interesting cast. Like MrYeahbut said - the brother can be a bit much.

Found this on Netflix. I think it is a pretty entertaining show. Binge-watched the first 2 seasons and I am well into Season 3. I have two tiny gripes with it:

1. They monologue the hell out of the patient diagnosis each week, going through every symptom ad nauseum, usually as the are walking from their car to the front door on a house call.

2. No one ever dies. Hankmed is batting 1.000 on some pretty serious ailments. How about a little tragedy to liven things up?

Other than that, it is a welcome addition to our house because my wife and I could not be further apart on our tastes. I am Game of Thrones. She is Real Housewives. This appeals to both of us.

ain't EVER gonna happen. There's a reason USA is referred to as the Blue Sky network. Although, with their latest round of development, it does seem like they're trying to change that.

That's probably why I like USA so much. I'm sorry to hear they might be going in another direction. For me it was great to see shows that mostly skipped the teen angst, went reasonably light on the melodrama, let the hero win and made the difference between good guy and bad guy fairly evident. Royal Pains was one of the few USA shows I didn't care for and for the obvious reason, I couldn't stomach the brother.

I found it excellent at first. I can't remember which season it was--beginning of the 2nd or beginning of the third--but it went over the slop opera deep end for me.

Yeah I get that. For me, I wish it was more like Scrubs. Heavy on the comedy, but mixing in just enough tragedy to ground it. The premier got that combo right, but it hasn't since then.

I do love the supporting characters. They recur often enough that it feels like a real community, rather than a show with one-and-done guest stars.

Ok. Just saw the first death. Very melodramatic. I withdraw my whining.

I thought it didn't start until tomorrow.... my wife had me tivo it for her and she will freak out if she missed an episode.

My wife watches this religiously. I don't watch it but she was a huge fan of last season.

So mad about the Autotrader ad being injected into the storyline. Showing step-by-step how the app works in Emma's exposition about affording a new car was over the line.

Cheese, how much would they pay to have them ***** themselves out like that? What would writers think about this type of thing?

haha... I had to write the Kelley Blue Book version of this scene last year on Necessary Roughness. Had much more fun with the Subway integration... fun, being a relative term.

a decent amount... like the ability to either bring in a big co-star for an episode or to have a big set-piece you wouldn't otherwise be able to afford. probably like 50-100K depending on if it's a placement (where it just has to be mentioned or seen) or an integration (which is something like what you saw last night).

What would writers think about this type of thing?

we LOVE it! just kidding... as someone who was in charge of this on Roughness, I can assure you, those scenes are the bane of our existence.

Community was actually BRILLIANT with this with their Subway integration. Making Subway the badguy and putting them right in the story line was pretty funny and Subway let them just bag on them because of the exposure.

Thanks for the insight. I am used to it in reality shows like Biggest Loser, where Subway or Jennie-O hock their wares as healthy alternatives to fast food. I hate it, but it makes a kind of sense. I agree the Community integration was pretty classic. But stopping the narrative to have a 45 demo of an app was brutal. It was shoehorned in with almost no relation to the story. This may be the future in a DVR world, but it has to be a little more seamless.

Thanks again!!!

this integration is legendary in writer's rooms:

Okay, that is awesomely bad. Here is the Royal Pains one. Keep in mind that right before this clip, they are discussing how to entrap a mysterious blogger who has been making their lives miserable. They've set up a meeting to spring a trap and are waiting for the blogger to arrive (the text at the end is from the blogger). So it seems like a really stupid time to stand around and talk about Auto Trader, which had been mentioned by the girl at least twice before in the episode.

We should create a thread for integration fails on ASFN.

please don't... I'm sure mutliple from Roughness will show up. those were brutal enough to write and watch unfold on set. I don't need to relive those again!
