Red Stripe. Are you sure we're talking about the same Pat Burell here? He was absolutely LOATHED by this town this year. Boo'd unmercifully and came up so small down the stretch, that many just wanted to see him cut flat out. His departure is a priority here, it's just a matter of what we'll get for him. I liked Pat a lot, but it's time for him to go.

Hey I'm just reporting what both myself and DevilFan read on the Phillies forum. I thought it was shocking because I too had heard similar sentiments about Burrell. I think most of the trade protests came from a few fans who were still scarred from the Abreu and Thome deals.

I thought the same thing. He got booed at spring training this year and gets booed all the time at home. However, Redstripe went to a Phillies message board (as did I) and everyone there wanted to keep Burrell, even if it meant not getting Soriano. I know those Philly fans are a small sample size but I was shocked just like Redstripe was. I thought it was well known that he was strongly disliked in Philly. The only reason he's not gone is because of his no trade clause and his ridiculous contract. Gillick can't wait to deal him and has been trying for some time now

Gotcha. There ARE a contingent of fans here who don't want to see him go. Most of em are chicks. :p

I almost fell off my chair when those Philly fans said they want to keep Burrell rather then sign Soriano. They all said it too, prob never watched a baseball game in their life

Right, they were watching something else while in the ballpark.

I grew up in Philadelphia.. Trust me, if they said they'd rather keep Burrell than sign Soriano, it's strictly because they'd prefer to save the money and go after a SP and a 3B (Sorry, Wes Helms doesn't cut it).

I'm a chick and I'd love to see him gone. He underproduces when we need him most and is not worth the money he's getting.

Later, Pat.
