More than anything, it's just amazing how poorly we played the Amare card.

Yep. We needed to KNOW by last year's trade deadline if we were going to sign him and what we could get him for.

Then we needed to turn him into picks, young players, and a TE. We could have done that last summer. Denver gets a $17 million TE. That is a very usable piece in rebuilding.

I disagree. There wasn't much of a market for him because of his knees and his eye issue. It wasn't until we approached the trade deadline that he started once again showing signs of greatness and by then, it was probably too late. There were all kind of rumors about what we were going to trade him for but in most cases it was what we wanted, not what they were willing to give us. If he'd started the season playing at the level he later reached, we might have had a chance to get something decent for him but he was a shadow of himself the first few months.

Management acknowledged they were trying to trade him but the great packages never materialized. Portland for example turned us down not the other way. We probably could have traded him for Hickson or Beasley but not much more than that. Once that was obvious, a final playoff run with Amare followed by more attempts to keep him seemed like the right move, IMO.

Plus Utah raped New Jersey. Their future looks a lot better than ours right now.

We are talking a #3 pick Favors, a good player Harris and 2 very likely lottery picks (Nets 2011 and GSW 2012)

I disagree, the Jazz gave up an elite PG that comes by very rarely for a PF who is still developing, Harris who is an okay point guard and 2 lottery picks which is exactly what they are just picks that are not guaranteed to be anything special. The jury is still out on what the Jazz got back but the Nets get a bonafide young superstar PG and when they move to Brooklyn, they have a franchise player to market as well. Great move for the Nets!

According to ESPN the deal is done.

Probably a good move by Utah as Deron wasn't happy there - and he wasn't doing a great job of leading the team this year, as shown by his negative +/- for the season. (While the +/- is not a great individual stat in general, its the perfect 'bottom line' stat for PGs. For the starting PG of a team playing better than .500 ball to have a negative +/- is pretty damning. Devin Harris has a negative +/- too, but everyone on the Nets is negative and Harris is somewhat better than the team average.)

I won't be a bit surprised if Utah starts playing better and winning more with DWill gone. Not that I expect Devin Harris to be all that wonderful for them but he won't hurt them and the whole team will pull together.

If Favors lives up to his potential and they make something of their draft picks Utah could come out ahead on this deal - well ahead if you figure they'd have lost Williams next year if they didn't act. Of course, the new CBA may throw a monkeywrench into it in some unforeseen way.

Talk on NY radio today as to whether this was a great deal for the Nets based on the chance that DW won't sign the extension. The stadium is being built in Brooklyn but currently they play in the Devil's arena to the smallest crowds in the league (not the arena's fault: it's much better than the Meadowlands). But they need to sell DW on Brooklyn NOW. He really has to know that he wants to be there not even next year, but the year following. Meanwhile he has other options...

I think both teams win in this trade if Deron Williams re-signs with the Nets. I would rather have Deron Williams than Carmelo Anthony.

I can't say for sure, but I think Sloan's problem with Deron centered on the coaching style. I think Deron wanted to play a more open style game whereas Sloan coached a more controlled style of basketball.

I'm wondering if DA had his choice in NY, he would have preferred Deron over Carmelo. The PG is the heart and soul of DA's offense.

Good news for the Suns....3 current playoff teams in the West are likely to be out of playoffs.

Utah...no D-Will
Denver....no Melo
Memphis....no Gay and maybe no Z-Bo too

Its gonna be up to us & Houston to take advantage.

Wow..so many stars went to East. blah...

DWilliam looks like an angry guy to me. There is a clip of him yelling at a rookie in one game. He doesn't look like a very easy person to play with or be coached. But I think I've seen even more clips of Kobe and Phil arguing... lol
