Almost universally Raider fans are up in arms about losing this guy. Much more so then Houston from what I have seen. I have watched some video, read the PFF grades from 2012, but this seems to be the best indicator of how valuable he is to me. Palmer knowing him like he does says a lot to me too.

This seems like a smart move and for less money it appears too. Not your older brothers Cardinals, thats for sure.

Am I dreaming that if Dansby walks like we all expect, the Cards could be players for a humbled Jarius Byrd, TJ Ward, Roger Saffold, or gulp Demarcus Ware????
I still don't expect Dansby to walk, but I won't mind it if Jared comes to Az. I still don't believe Veldheer to be a lock either, we will see what tomorrow brings

He's better than Levi Clown & Sowell...but is he a $7/mil a year player? Guess were about to find out.

LT's are going to be a premium so yes. I like the signing if it does indeed happen. The line would get exponentially better immediately. Give us a healthy Cooper and this offense just got scary.

You may or may not end up eventually being right on Veldheer but you are basing this opinion on what exactly DD? Just a feeling you get?

All the reports started in Baltimore, and I think Veldheer will go where the most money is. And the injury thing bugs me. Only real weight is the Palmer thing, but he doesn't sign checks.

The report in Baltimore started cause this guy Wilson read a tweet from this ex scout middlekauff.
The rumor is from Oakland

Are you talking today's rumor, or yesterday's rumor, the original one started yesterday on Twitter with some Raven dude named Langy or something like that.

I thought Aaron Wilson started it? From Baltimore. Although I've read he's very connected throughout the league and is well respected with agents and players. All hearsay til tomorrow.

I agree. Just about every single year, right before free agency, we hear "so and so is a lock for Arizona". Then, it turns out that is not the case. Christ, there was a point last year when all kinds of people were saying we were the leaders for Manning. How did that work out?

It is the agent's job to jack up interest in the player to get the highest contract possible. For all we know, that is exactly what is happening here.

We were a lock for Andy Reid too at some point. ;) I think there was even a Walrus thread.

And the Veldheer Palmer connection isn't enough to sell me. I imagine Palmer was asked about Jared by someone in the press (Jurecki), and he gave the guy a good report, and did the "sure we would love to have him" bit that you have to when endorsing a guy. Jared probably wants a 5 year deal, Palmer will most likely play for 2 more years, perhaps 3. It's not like these guys are the same age or attached at the hip. I'm not sure how hard Palmer is beating this drum.

The specific numbers on the pay salaries was also awfully specific, how does one dude know what every team is supposedly offering while knowing what the players are going to do in advance before the clock strikes 12? Someone has a crystal ball or a private agenda.
I kinda do hope we get him on the cheap though, but I'd rather have Monroe or Albert. I've been leery of these Brian Bosworth types bodies for a while, Jared is way too buff for a fat guy.

I don't know...the Cards are typically pretty transparent about what and who they want, and we usually hear it quite a bit before they sign. Sure, there is poor speculation and ridiculous rumors, but for the most part, if you pay attention to the right sources, there isn't much surprise.

Yeah, I know we are not the "smokescreen" type of a franchise. I bring that up every year with the draft. But, it is very unlike the Cards to let out contract numbers before the deal is done. The fact that this rumor is so specific on numbers makes me doubt it. If it's true, then I guarantee the Cards are pissed, because it implies tampering.

It was leaked during the legal tampering period where the constructs of a deal can be pretty much agreed to without it officially being agreed to. Similar to the leak of Albert getting 10 million from Miami tomorrow.

I still don't think the leak came from the Cardinals side. They just don't do that. Even if true, the agent is trying to get the Raiders to jack up their offer or get another team involved. In that case, the deal is not done yet. It just makes no sense for the Cards to leak the contract parameters. They have nothing to gain by doing so.

Leaks almost always come from agents as they have the most to gain. Agents typically though aren't going to agree to contract parameters and then turn around and use it to jack the price up from another team. They wouldn't be able to negotiate in good faith with anyone in the league after they did that. They will definitely shop offers but they won't shop agreements.

So, that supports my belief that there is no agreement in place yet.

Don't get me wrong. I'd be happy of Veldheer signs tomorrow with contract numbers exactly in that range. I just can't remember that ever happening with the Cards before, however.

I may be wrong but I believe they have an unofficial agreement in place. I'm less sure about the numbers, but we'll see tomorrow.

Talk about pessimistic the deal is agreed to at a little over 7 mil a year.....that would be my guess

If it was just another rumor , I'm thinking it would not have lasted on the TV screen . It was on the screen day before yesterday , it was on the screen yesterday , and it is still on the screen today . This indicates to me , that all systems are GO , I really like our chances .

Does anyone here watch Raiders games?

I wanted to do a scout on Veldheer, but reports have been that Veldheer came back from this season weaker than what he's capable of, and in 2012 he was in a zone blocking scheme that played away from his strengths.

If I wanted to walk away impressed with Veldheer's play (and I wasn't impressed when I was watching tape on Palmer as a Raider), where should I look?

Can we all agree now that, in terms of believing Reggie McKenzie sucks as a GM, I am not totally an idiot? I call forth the Saffold Fiasco of 2014 as exhibit A.

Did those same reg Mac defenders defend Rod Graves?
