Actually, that's not likely, I admit. His problem is that he takes lots of hits and doesn't protect himself well. He might last several years. But Thomas Jones sure looked good in college, too--I remember thinking after that draft, "Well, our RB problem is solved, finally." Even if he stays healthy, no OL = 50% effectiveness in RB.

But I'm still with the side that says draft real talent at OL, especially OT. Lutui is the one guy we have now who might be generally regarded as an above-average OL player. Last year we thought Loney would solve all our problems--well, the line got better after most of the season was over, but was certainly not a consistent late team strength. Now we are trusting Whiz and Grimm, who seem not to comprehend the problem.

If we draft AP, and traded Edge for a truly good OT, I'd be OK with that.

You overstate our weaknesses and are a bit too certain about Peterson, in my opinion.

I'd say that Peterson is an excellent player and the best back in the draft. However, R. Bush was a better prospect and C. Williams was just as good if not better. Furthermore, Peterson is not a once in a generation talent. He is not Barry Sanders. Every year at draft time people are ready to anoint a back as once in a generation or can’t miss. Peterson is good but not great. He has also had those injuries...

This line scares me. I would [FONT=&quot]have a conniption if R. Wells was moved back to guard. Gandy and Ross are not starters. I don't think Peterson would have success behind this line.

As for overstating our weaknesses... I'd say we need a starting corner, a starting linebacker, depth at defensive end and I'm not sold on Holt/Francisco at FS b/c they have never proved themselves. Transitioning to the 3-4 would be a mistake as we have enough holes with our current scheme.

I don't think we need starters per se. We need playmakers, guys like Jr.Seau or Jerry Rice who could turn games around with their talent. The Cards have gone from having a bunch of spares as starters to real NFL level starters(not necessarily pro-bowler level but guys who could actually start for other NFL teams). Now they need to be getting and developing elite players.

The only guy they "might" pass on to take Peterson is Thomas. No one else. We just can't ignore the biggest problem we have. Yes, Peterson is an outstanding running back. If the wisdon is to pass on Thomas to take Peterson the powers that be must be very sure of something that no one else is!

Thank goodness the draft isn't over when we take AP--there's still a lot of good players that can help out on the line.

You don't pass on a player of AP's calibre, IMO, just because your line sucks. If AP is there, Thomas is likely gone. If that's the case it's a no-brainer in my book.

You won't find a starting LT in the second round. You are lucky to find a starting LT in the first round. If you think Ross can start at LT then ?????

Where does this come from? I haven't seen a reputable mock draft where he ISN'T a top 10 pick. Every scouting report I read says his only knock is he lacks some easily teachable fundamentals and footwork. If he's top 10 talent and we take him at 5, so what?

First, I think Steve Loney is a better OL coach than Grimm. Grimm had top lalent and build a reasonable OL. Loney here had poor talent and built an average OL despite Denny holding him back.

The OL last year shaped up to an acceptable unit. In comparing it to other NFL lines the OL at the end of the season would rank in the 20s somewhere (that's below average).

This currently OL that Grimm is planning on putting out there has got to be the worst OL in the NFL. And they think they are going to run a ton? Yea right. Lots of runs for losses, long pass on 3rd down, and Punt. Can you say 3 and out often?

AP won't have any luck behind this OL. He'll look like any other Card RB.

Also, I think AP reminds me a lot of Eddie George. An upright running style that will limit your the time of your NFL career. I'd much rather have Edge running with Thomas or Levi Brown as one of the tackles.

he's not really a top 10 guy.....and he's certainly NOT top 5

he can be just like Davis and be lazy, and he has footwork problems right now.

the Skins dont have a need for him, nor do the Vikings, Falcons or Texans (zone blocking). and with Houck in Miami, they'll be leaning towards a different type of o-lineman as well.

that puts him at 11, and with Jonas Jennings, the 9ers dont need him either.

guys like JT, D'Brickashaw, Bryant McKinnie go top 10, and Brown doesnt have anywhere near the talent as these players

The Cardinals can get a top OT with the #12 pick in the 2008 draft. They won't get another chance at a franchise RB. Razorback McFadden will be long gone. Take AP. I doubt the Cardinals make the Playoffs. Get AP for the Playoff run in 2008.
