Nobody mentions AP and injuries. He's at the 20, first game, first play, runs 79 yards and falls to the ground with a double groin pull. We see him next in 2008.
Actually, that's not likely, I admit. His problem is that he takes lots of hits and doesn't protect himself well. He might last several years. But Thomas Jones sure looked good in college, too--I remember thinking after that draft, "Well, our RB problem is solved, finally." Even if he stays healthy, no OL = 50% effectiveness in RB.
But I'm still with the side that says draft real talent at OL, especially OT. Lutui is the one guy we have now who might be generally regarded as an above-average OL player. Last year we thought Loney would solve all our problems--well, the line got better after most of the season was over, but was certainly not a consistent late team strength. Now we are trusting Whiz and Grimm, who seem not to comprehend the problem.
If we draft AP, and traded Edge for a truly good OT, I'd be OK with that.
