And he never seems to pick a losing battle. If he can fight through, he fights through, if he has to go around, he goes around - and he always seems to recover a half step quicker than the opponent expects.
I wouldn’t say never, he’s picked up fouls coming over picks aggressively. It’s how austin reeves got the four point play. But he is pretty good about timing and spacing with it and recovers on the other side quickly. I’ve also noted that the suns have a new tactic that I really like. The screener’s defender shows on the ballhandler just long enough to have the original defender recover and then drops back to his original assignment defensively. This is in lieu of switching everything, which I hated. Switching allows the offense to dictate who is going to defend their best offensive weapon. This tactic says, “no, we aren’t giving you the choice, we’ll take a momentary disadvantage of show and recovery to keep our best defender in your best scorer.”
I also love playing dunn and oneale together. Pick and roll with those defending and it doesn’t matter much. You’re going to end up with a strong high energy defender no matter what.
