FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON!

According to the matchup reports - we're even. But we have better chemistry and I think better builds considering the number of high level players they have.

I installed the new AI defense. Our AI def. covers not only specific plays - but also varying situations based on downs and distance.

The main advantage to it - is that it will be much harder for teams to isolate one play to their advantage and it will help us focus on the run during running downs and the pass during passing situations.

Its not to hard to figure out what these guys want to do - run the ball. So if we can hold them to less than 150 yards - we'll win.

Thanks to Red scouting their builds: Indonesia Drunk Fu Open Builds ...we have an idea that their oline is slow (but strong) and their left DE is fast (but weak).

Its a safe assumption that every team is gonna "+5" boost on us since we're the preseason top dog...so its a guarantee its gonna help us during playoff time.

All defense play "hard".

for the pass rush. That will mess up their oline's blocking assignments.

Absolutely!

The offense completely broke the Drunk Fu's in the 4th quarter with the running game.

I'm just a little bit...okay - I'm quite a bit shocked at the defense's performance against an "evenly" ranked team.

I spent over 20 hours this week creating the AI without testing anything - but just building on every play situation. That came to about 95 inputs....most GLB teams have about 20.

But I have to believe the lopsided score is also a strong indicator how everyone has been properly watching their builds....especially with the emphasis on agility and speed. The Defense looked like they had "crazy" speed out there...and we didn't boost.

I also liked seeing that everyone got significant playing time.

According to advanced scouting, it looks like they've got an active backfield and an above average LDE.

We do our best running up the right side, where confusingly enough, the LDE lines up across. Because we line up an additional OG at the TE spot in rushing plays, I still feel confident in running mostly to the right.

That said, we're going to test the left side too. Because the DT's and RDE's are unknown quantities we're going to keep focused on what we do well.

More updates on our plan as I conduct our after action review on the FU and the advanced scouting of the Snipes.

We've got to keep up and be fast with this, these games come and go quickly.

If you've got time, watch games our opponents have played and try to pick up on themes or tricks they use on offense and defense.

The more we know, the more we can adjust to win.

Part 2:

After looking at the game film for our game vs the Fu and the Snipe's first game I've decided the following.

1) Play to our strength. We're a running team so we'll continue to run. I'm still tailoring and experimenting with the book, but we're running left and right this game. Let's see how it goes.

2) The "I" set stuff has been completely removed from the playbook. We're a Strong I, Singleback and Pro Set team (with a smattering with Weak I) when we're up.
A Shotgun team when down.

It's a study in complex simplicity. As things move along and we get more comfortable, the appropriate changes will follow.

3) The Snipes rotate between a 4-3 and a 3-4 defense. The 3-4 was designed to stop an outside running team, which is where we're the most explosive. We're going to run to the outside and the inside to compensate.

the right side from our point of view as you're looking at the scrimmage line, and left side from the defensive point of view.

Yup. It's terminology that's been known to trip people up though, so I thought it a good idea to explain it fully.

Superspck:

FYI: In the override settings (when we're behind) - I added the Pro Set FB Belly in the playbook for inside runs.

It runs toward the weakside...but I'm going to shift the TE1 to that spot.

BTW - the overrides is still not ready yet.

Superspck:

I inserted C. Kidd as FB1 and T. Thunder as FB2 on the depthcharts. During the override FB passing plays - they'll be swapped out while Bull becomes the blocking HB.

What the hell are we doing wrong with Rock?

I watched the whole game...8 for 14 isn't bad...especially being a ball control offense that doesn't put the burden on 1 player.

Also keep in mind we're a "marked" team - everyone is gonna boost +5 speed on our offense...that equates to more pass deflections (7) and better coverage.

Now that 1 pick he threw...I blame on the receiver for not running his route. ;)

Oddities:

Shotgun draw in 3rd and 1.5 while holding the lead... shouldn't happen
Shotgun 5wr pass in 2nd and 3 while holding the lead... shouldn't happen

What worked:

The defense. It really helped the team overcome a slow start. DT Marko is a fiend.

The workman like effort of Kidd, Thunder, and the O line.

What's changing:

We're going to be working more outside then in the next play. We've lost a little sweep/toss explosion. I'd like to see if we can get it back.

Less Strong I, more singleback.

After watching the game, the coverage was a blanket. I didn't see on huge miss all day.

But last year Rock spoiled me as a coordinator, doing everything I needed and more.

So I assumed with a crushing run game he'd be a 100% completion guy.

:)

I keep forgetting we're top dog now. It feels nice.

Check out their CB's:

CB Jon Sheriff (Lv. 37)
CB Freedy "fleet foot" Hammer (Lv. 36) <---- open build.

Not only are they higher level than our wideouts - imagine a +5 boost to speed.

You were right. Asking Rock to do too much is just silly. Thank god we've got a running game to lean on, that's a tall order for even a Superman.

FYI: Editing tactics. I'll edit this post when I'm done.

I really like the DE/LBer speed and the safety/CB coverage has been unreal.

All the DT's are really making a difference - The pressure their generating up the middle is extraordinary. The oppositions oline just can't react fast enough.

We actually have the no. 1 rushing defense....far cry from our first season where we we're like 23rd.

Eraldo Coil (Lv. 33) is having an MVP year IMO.

When we get our qtr. overrides in place (kicks in when we're like 14 points behind) - then you'll see some passing.
