So I have been watching the NFL combine on the NFL Network late at night. They show the whole thing in 3 hour blocks. After watching it, I identified my major sleeper in this draft and it is Sabby Piscitelli. Piscitelli played safety in college.

The Sporting News draft guide has him listed as a 7th round LB, but everything they have about him is wrong. The 40 time listed is not what he ran, his height and weight are wrong...my guess is that the magazine was written before the combine ever came out.

Athlon Sports draft guide has him as a 3rd round safety prospect. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle since he can easily play either position. Sabby's actual combine times were 6'3 3/4. He ran a 4.49 40. He weighed 234 pounds. When he blistered the 40 time, Kiper said quietly "Guys his size don't run that fast."

His size measurements firmly put him as a LB in the pros, but his speed is better than many corners. In Oregon, Sabby was known as a smart player and good in coverage, so he can play safety as well.

I am not sure that the Cardinals will draft him, but I believe he makes an outstanding Nickel LB, Special Teams player, and backup safety. His flexibility is amazing and he will find spots to play. That is great value if he is sitting there in the 5th round

The Huddle Report compares him to Jason Sehorn and Ko Simpson. If we didn't have four needs to fill by in the first four rounds (OLT, RB, WLB, TE), we would be able to take him. Another thing to thank Rod Graves for.

i think you misread that. he is 6'2 3/4 and he weighed in at 224 lbs. he ran the 40 in 4.47 seconds. its still impressive though but we already have a guy like that on our team in francisco

i think he will be a 3rd/4th round pick just because of his size&speed combination and upside. he was also a pretty good safety in college so hes not just a workout warrior. still dont think the cardinals are interested in him. were already set at safety IMO

RB????? Edge, Shipp, JJ, why is RB a "need" that has to be filled with one of the 1st four picks?

Probably because he has no faith in Shipp and Arrington hasn't proven himself yet and our coach wants to run the ball 55+% of the time.

In the cardinals.com mock, I actually projected Piscatelli to be drafted by New England with their second pick in the first round. (He kind of fits the NE tweener mold).

He's considered a safety by almost everybody, but I think he has Cato June type qualities as a coverage WLB.

He was initially below my radar and first got my attention in All Star practices. I then checked him out more thoroughly. He definitely should be rated as a sleeper pick.

(Note - SIRIUS NFL radio interviewed him and he came across as a pretty confident, knowledgeable guy).

Does this guy remind anyone of Shazor .. ?? too big for a safety, but too small for a LB ..

By the way what happened to Earnest Shazor .. ?? I was hoping that this kid would kick it into high gear and take advantage of the opportunity he got .. probably too busy sulking because he didn't get drafted ...

With one noticeable difference. I believe Shazor ran a 4.6 - 4.7. Piscatelli ran in the 4.4's.

Also - what we don't know was how good either player is at absorbing an NFL playbook. (Sabatelli sounded like he's bright; I don't know how sharp Ernest was considered to be).

He is from my hometown, Boca Raton. Never could figure out why he went across the country to play.

Strengths:
Has excellent size, a big frame and good bulk...Aggressive and plays with a nasty attitude...Solid speed and range...Good hands and ball skills...He'll hold his own in short to intermediate coverage for the most part...Great instincts...Is very smart with a nice motor and top intangibles...Has some versatility...Tons of experience.

Weaknesses:
Is not very physical...Struggles to disengage from blocks...Doesn't match up well with receivers in coverage and has trouble deep...A 'tweener who lacks the ability to play safety and is not big enough to be a linebacker...Only an average tackler.

Notes:
Could be looked at as a potential outside linebacker prospect by some teams...He plays more of a finesse game and for a guy of his dimensions that is not what is expected...Was also a standout baseball player in high school...Certainly has the physical tools you look for but does not play to them and may be a bit overrated.

OLB by either a straight 4-3 or a cover 2. he would undoubtedly play SS in AZ. he doesn't weigh enough to play LB in a 3-4. he'd have to put on about 20 LBs or so to be ready, and the Cards also have the most athletic LB in the draft from 2006 that has to gain weight as it is

Quite the name..."Sabby Piscitelli" sounds like one of those quasi-tough guy bikers with a "heart o' gold" from a Very Special Laverne and Shirley episode...

I don't think there is any way the Cardinals draft him because they already have a player that fits that bill, Brandon Johnson. He is 6'5" and about 224 lbs. and I believe he ran about the same 40 time as Piscitelli. Many thought he was drafted because he had the speed to stay with the 49ers Vernon Davis. I think the Cards hope to put a little weight on him and use him as a pass covering linebacker. He could help out on special teams too.

Jeff, you never answered my question as to where Eric Wright, Woodly went in you draft. I remember you took Merriweather in round 2.
