Saddiq Bey seems like a player James Jones might like.

Bey is a 6' 8" and 216 pound sophomore small forward from Villanova. He is 21.02 years of age.

Last season Bey average 16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He shot .477 from the field and .451 from 3 point range. Bey projects to be a 3&D player.

Here is how NBA Draft Room describes him:

Bey is having a breakout sophomore season, showing off his elite shooting ability and heady all around game. He's now looking like a possible first round pick, either in 2020 or 2021.

He's got nice size for the SF position and a strong build. He's not an elite run/jump athlete but can hold is own, and shows quick hands on D and a solid understanding of the game, gaining position and seeming to read the play before it happens.

He projects as a floor spacing, 3pt specialist and secondary scoring option at the next level.

Tankathon has Bey going #14 in their mock, NBA Draft Room #13 and NBADraft.Net #41.

Edit: NBADraft.Net has Saddiq Bey #41 in their mock.

Some think Bey can play power forward which makes him that much more attractive.

NBADraft.net actually has him at #41 (Tyler Bey is at #27). He is a late riser though and NBADraft.net is notoriously slow on moving players up (and down in some cases). Since he is a bit of a late riser he wasn’t really on my radar to focus on during the season, but you are right, he does seem like a Jones type of player. Definitely not a huge fan at #10 though, unless our current roster goes through some changes.

Control/find works great if there is only one Bey in the draft. Are they related?

Tyler has a cousin that plays for Washington, but I don’t think they are related to Saddiq.

Interesting. I sort of picked Saddiq Bey's name at random looking at the draft.

However, when I started to review him I couldn't help but think about James Jones.

Another Cam Johnson. Yup, here's your pick at #10.

Maybe we should start looking at some of the bigger wings as modern day power forwards.

Jerami Grant would fit nicely.

Because that has worked so well for the Suns the last two seasons. :sarcasm:
The Suns failures are due to lack of talent. Filling the PF position with more lack of talent just because they are big isn’t going to solve anything.

If we draft a PF then Jerami Grant is one of my top free agent targets this summer. I don’t think he alone solves our PF problems alone, but I think he would be a great complimentary piece if we end up drafting someone like Toppin.

This is a high floor prospect. He comes in with an NBA body who knows how to defend and hit open shots. Seems to have high game IQ as well. GREAT 3&D wing prospect. He has a higher floor than Vassell but a much lower ceiling due to his limitations in speed/agility. (Can see him fitting nicely in San Antonio). He looks like a guy who can add 15 lbs of muscle and is a safe bet to become a great role player for a decade.

Once again though, there is no room for him on this roster. He could possibly play backup PF like Mikael does but I'd almost demand to have a great rebounding backup Center next to him to compensate.

I actually like what I see from him. I just wonder who'd we be passing up on to take him.

Bridges/Oubre this past season and TJ Warren the season before had plenty of talent. They were just overmatched at the power forward position.

I'd be very happy with Jerami Grant and a player like Toppin. Suns need athleticism at the power forward position.

The problem was that there was no depth behind them and by playing them at PF it took the depth away from other positions. Last season the lineup of Rubio/Booker/Oubre/Bridges/Ayton graded out as one of the tops in the league, but we had a ridiculous lack of depth behind them. This team needs talent. Specifically perfect talent is obviously ideal, but if that isn’t available I will take versatile talent over specific mediocrity every day of the week.

How about actual talent at positions we actually need, rather than overloading on wings yet again and once more playing them out of position?

Must be something in the water in this state. The Suns at one time have 7 point guards on the roster, then 6 wings, with zero power forwards. The Mercury now have 4 shooting guards and zero small forwards or power forwards. And the U of A basketball team now has 4 point guards and zero power forwards.

We clobbered teams with Oubre, Bridges and Ayton as our front court. The problem was they didn't get enough playing time together and the lack of depth.

We got badly outrebounded and in foul trouble (as opponents learned just to exploit the mismatch at power forward and pound the ball inside or drove it right to the hoop), where our lack of depth got exposed.

We need to bring in 2 NBA level power forwards, particularly those who can provide athleticism, strength, toughness, rebounding, rim protection and defense. There should be zero doubt about that fundamental point.

You claim this stuff, but it just isn't true. That lineup dominated, Rubio/Booker/Bridges/Oubre/Ayton rated as one of the best 5 man units in the league. We need depth, across the board. I don't give a squirt about acquiring a traditional, interior, power forward. Playing one of those along side Ayton will be a mistake.

I read your post. Where we differ is that I think there is talent available at our position of need, particularly in the draft.
I see two players in the draft that would be an immediate upgrade next to Ayton. And even those two have some deficiencies. Potential long term talent, maybe a couple more. I am all about drafting a PF, I am just against reaching for a PF.

They need to continue to develop Diallo. He's got some upside still. He made some strides this season and maybe that can continue. He still got a way to go. This could be Oubres final year here next year, so we've already got Makail and CJ, so it would make sense if we don't replace Saric with a proven vet PF then we should draft a true 4. They are available and will be rated at/around the 10 pick.. If we do sign a vet then someone like Vassell and Bey should definitely be in the conversation.
