How? Are they counting all their downloaded components? Because 362 million downloads of a browser is ridiculous.

The only way that even comes close to making sense is if they count every update as a download. In that case I've "downloaded" Firefox about 20 times.

I downloaded it and took it for a test drive.
I also deleted it shortly there after.

Apple should really just give up and stick to their "i" products......they lose at computers.(I use a mac almost daily too, btw)

Are you kidding?

For gamers, Macs are virtually worthless, but for design and video use, Macs are far and away superior to PCs. The problem with Macs is that you can get a really powerful computer, but it will frequently cost twice as much than a PC. PCs also are a LOT easier to hack--which is proved by this Safari hacking. No problems for Safari on Mac, but move it to PC and it's immediately hacked. OSX is a much, much, much better operating system than anything Windows has. It's no big secret that Vista is an attempt by Microsoft to emulate Mac's OSX system.

So in short, Macs are great for art, design and video work, are very hard to hack, and can be very powerful.

But PCs are cheaper, great for games, are much easier to hack and have a lot more ways to upgrade (both hardware AND software).

I have 3 PCs and a Mac, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

That's something that has been commented on a lot, not only how Vista has Mac influences but how the new OSX has a lot of Windows influences as well.

Thanks for the fanboy response, but the whole design/video thing went out about 8 years ago, PCs and Macs are virtually identical in those capabilities now. OSx is very bloated and just plain and simple doesn't run that great on most of Mac's hardware....although, now that they are using Intel it is a little better.

You should really look up what an equally priced PC can do vs. a Mac, in most cases(especially video editing) it blows the Mac out of the water.

While this article is a little old, the technology and truth's still hold to this day: http://videoediting.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=32620

Like I said, as someone who uses both a Mac and a PC daily, in a stressful working environment.....Mac loses.

I don't think it was a fan boy response. Film and animation studios predominately are still using Macs for such work. The likes of PIXAR, ILM, Digital Domain and others are all using Macs for their work. I have met and been to seminars with some of these guys and they just simply feel the Mac is better for that type of work. It never really dawned on me to ask why. My brother-in-law is studying animation right now (also using a MAC). Maybe I can get his insight.

It might be true that you can get a PC with raw processing power and tools that you can do the same work but for some reason that industry thinks the Mac is the superior tool for that type of work. I sort of compare it to the work I do. I work with servers all day. Some of them are Unix/Linux and some are Windows environment. We all use different processor setups. There is no one setup that is best for all environments. Some setups are better then others for certain types of work our servers do. It must be the same for animation and film.

I personally prefer PC's for my own computer and just don't see a reason to own a Mac. That's me though, I am not an animator of film FX person. I love to also game on my PC and the PC has superior game libraries. So for everyday use a PC fits for me. I just don't have a reason to use a MAC.

Pixar uses Macs makes sense, Jobs is still the CEO.

As for safari being hacked on windows proves macs are more secure, actually it just proves nobody bothered to try and hack it when it was just on a Mac but now it's on windows they tried.

I know some folks connected to Apple and they all admit Safari was released before it was really ready because of internal pressure, they all knew it was going to get hacked, they just didn't expect it to happen this quickly and with this much fanfare. There are people at Apple who are convinced that Microsoft is paying people to hack Safari to make Apple look bad.

1 Infinite Loop = paranoid culture. Almost as much as Redmond. Their bosses prefer it that way. No shortage of conspiracy theories between those two.

If you ever want to see an Apple employee froth at the mouth, just mention "Look and Feel."

I live in Cupertino so we are within 2 blocks of Apple. we see Apple engineers around all the time, for the most part they're good guys but they all have this we're better than they are air about them. When I worked at General Magic in the mid 90's virtually all the engineers there were ex Apple, it was really the most playful atmosphere I've ever worked in. I really liked that but the problem was the company was a complete failure and in part because of that culture. People worked long hours but not necessarily effectively.

I'll never forget beta testing a product and having one of the project managers show me all the "hidden cool stuff" that had been built into the software. It was on a PDA and I immediately began to wonder, how much faster would this software be had these guys not wasted all this time and space hiding things?

Sort of like the hidden stuff in excel that people discovered years ago, had absolutely no purpose beyond amusing the guys who coded it.

My understanding is they wanted to get Safari out before the Iphone so that all the attention would be focussed on the phone when it came out.

I work with a few Mac lovers, and they are all this way....I equate it to people who drive hybrids, same attitude. It's annoying and your product isn't any better and in many ways it's worse.

Give me a break, if anybody has that kind of attitude in this thread, it's you. You were the one who attacked me and called me names.

See, I AM in the film business--I just edited a damn movie! What's worse: Mac people that are holier-than-thou (which I am not) or PC people that think they are superior to Mac users, regardless of their attitudes? Several people on this thread fall into that category.

Macs are good for certain things, PCs for others. People that say they are just as good at anything don't know jack about what they are talking about.

Come on. You don't think anybody attempted to hack Safari on the Mac? You don't honestly believe that, do you? Even if that were true, wouldn't that prove that Macs are more stable if even hackers wouldn't bother to TRY?

I know CT can be a pain in the butt as well as anyone, but not once in this thread did he attack you or call you names.

Uh, he sorta did...

I kind of have a bad taste in my mouth for defending Chap (;)), but this is pretty condescending and he's not using the word "fanboy" lovingly as I might in describing comic-book geeks.

I'm just sayin'...

Apple has their market place and PC's have their's, there really isn't much to debate about.

I wouldn't call it an attack. Condescending, maybe, but not an attack. He also called the response "fanboy" not Chap himself.

You just came across (to me) as being a little sensitive. It was just reading like a healthy debate, not a personal attack. Again, jmho.

I disagree, and again, my point remains the same.

It's a fact that Macs are much safer to use--they are not 100% hack-proof, but they are a lot more safe than PCs. However, PCs are much more versatile. I am not anti-PC, I'm pro-PC and pro-Mac. Each are good for what they excel at.

For the record, I like Photoshop for the PC, but I don't like any of the video editing programs--2 crucial components to everything I do in my business.
