Cord Cutting is another major reason... Cable & Satellite companies just keep jacking up prices so more & more people are canceling their TV service & going to streaming services only. I did it about 1.5 years ago & haven't looked back... between services that I pay for myself & others I can access through family accounts, I have Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO, Starz, Encore, ESPN, Fox Sports, etc. I put an HD antenna on my roof just for watching locally broadcasted football games & I doubt they're counting that in their data.

I imagine it is a small percentage of the drop. I dont think significant amounts of people stop watching the nfl because one of the players is a *******.
It's not one player. It's multiple players on every team but I few. I'm boycotting for this reason and know tons of people who are doing the same. The NFL pisses me off more and more each year. I stopped buying jerseys a few years ago, got rid of my season tix and rarely even go to the games anymore.

To each his own. I wont let a very small minority of protesters impact my enjoyment of sports.

No cardinals have been doing it so even more so it makes no difference to me, other teams can kick rocks anyway.

I hope all of you realize that the NFL is a not for profit organization as recognized by the US government. They struck a deal back in the 70s when the two leagues merged and part of the deal was the NFL would not play games on Friday or Saturday during high school and college seasons and in exchange the NFL got the government to allow the NFL to become a not for profit entity so they pay no taxes.

The NFL corporation is non profit, the teams themselves are for profit.

I won't watch TNF unless the Cardinals are playing a road game. It makes NO sense for the NFL to be on Thursday. A short week means the teams aren't nearly as ready to play leading to sloppy/bad play. And then they get an extra 3 days to prepare for next weeks opponent. I would love to see the record of teams coming off a tnf. I think it is (slightly) lowering the quality of games on Sunday.

Maybe I am not the only one.

Thursday night games are a joke.

If they want to make Thursday Night games better, teams that play should have a bye week before them.

I am less inclined to watch AFC games---they don't interest me as much. But tonight I will watch some of the Bears/Packers game even though it should be an easy win for GB. I just have always liked the NFC rivalries.

As for the nation---do the ratings count The Red Zone Channel? Because of Fantasy leagues (and easier access to The Red Zone)---there are many football fans glued to that and not as much to individual games. The host, Andrew Siciliano does an amazing job. That guy is on full-go for 7 hours straight.

As the games get more meaningful the ratings should climb.

Redzone is what it is all about. Everyone is into fantasy and no one cares about all the punts, 3 and outs, commercials, pregame hoopla, etc. Just let me know who scores and show me the good plays from all the games. If I want to enjoy the feel of watching a whole game, there is Thurs, Sun, and Mon nite football. However, after watching football all Saturday up to 10 or 11 pm and all day Sunday, I am usually about worn out of football and don't really watch all 3 hours of Sun and Mon nites' games.

Even if the Cards are playing, I still put it on RedZone when I get up and stay on that till they close with a rerun of every TD scored. If the Cards are playing at that time, I will put it on PC if possible to keep an eye on it while the RedZone is going, or listen in the background to it on Sirius radio.

You make a point here in that college is now spread out over several days. It's not unusual to see a college game on Thursday or Friday and then it's on all day Saturday from noon till after midnight. Then you have conferences that now have their own network. There is just too much football on TV.

Tonight's game is a petfect example. Terrible.

+1

Watched Hockey instead of football, and the hockey game was great. Once the hockey game was over, I turned on the football game, and was asleep in 15 minutes. Turned the game off and went to bed.

Thus sleeping > Thursday night football last night.

Yep so many options paid and free to be able to get it. Owners making more, to pay for the players who are making more make tickets higher and cable/sat rates to go up it just gets passed along to the consumer...us. SlingTV , Kodi/SPMC etc...no need to get cable

That's me too, RedZone is usally on and I don't even watch much of it.

I have not watched near as much football. MY personal reasons are the not respecting our flag and the same teams all the time ie: Patriots, Cowboys, Packers, Seahawks. I just get bored listening to the insesent blubbering and drooling over how wonderful they are year after year. It doesn't even matter if other teams start to bypass, let's say the Cowboys, they continually talk about them year in and year out, same with the Pats. it just get's monotonous listingin to the constant love fest for Brady, Romo, Rodgers, etc..just so over them. I've really started losing interest in the past few years. That's just my opinion tho

I don't mind the lovefest for teams that are actually good. I expect them to talk about the best teams in the league. Its the slobbering all over the cowboys when they clearly suck that gets to me.

But that isn't the games...mostly...its the shows.

I cant stop watching, I watch college football, the CFL, the AFL, and the NFL. I just love the game. For all that are boycotting because of the protesters, well I say to you that is what makes America great. Your boycotting is the same as their protest, it's all a form of protesting. I watch for entertainment, not for political reasons. I completely agree with their cause, I just think they might be going about it the wrong way, but as they say in Hollywood any press is good press. It does have people talking tho.

These clowns just don't get the concept of oversaturation, for one. Jamming it down our throats every possible week of the year, every night of the week that they can get away with during the season, is just too much.
Plus, their players are generally crap human beings and not worthy of fandom.
We are blessed in Arizona to have some of the great professional athletes in sports here locally, and no bad guys.
But most of all, the NFL heads don't understand that people aren't NFL fans. They are team fans. If the Cards aren't playing, I'm not watching. Too big a waste of time.

With Thursday games, Monday games, Sunday night games, that's six NFL cities not even turning the TV on Sunday afternoons.

“The Walking Dead” might beat the NFL in ratings here and there, but it’s rare for another sport to go head-to-head against the NFL and win.

Major League Baseball must be feeling pretty good today.

According to Austin Karp of SportsBusiness Daily, the World Series Game 5 between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians posted a monster 15.3 overnight rating, beating a good “Sunday Night Football” matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. The Sunday night NFL game drew an 11.6 rating. It was a blowout. According to Sports Media Watch, it’s the first time since 2011 the World Series beat “Sunday Night Football” in the ratings.

over saturation doesnt bother me as I never have watched all of the games really. My viewership hasnt gone down at all but if we continue getting as many flags as we have the last 2 games my interest could start dying off.

that was a solid football game too, I imagine that has more to do with the two teams in the world series than anything else.

10 freakin' penalties! Just what's needed to keep a game moving along and fan enthusiasm high.

(When I learned that Coleman's crew was officiating, I knew we were in trouble).

I am sure the World Series match-up was a huge factor in it.

You would think that the Cowboys would draw a bigger audience though
