Rams will be cap strung by this guy. Unless he achieves All-Pro status in the first two years of his career the $70 million + he will get and the $40 million + in guarantees combined with their #2 picks the last two years is going to really keep them from adding too much veteran talent to their roster for a while IMO.

Definitely see the Rams picking Bradford. Shoulder is a concern especially since he will bouncing off the artificial surface they have. But the kids got talent and the Rams have to go this direction and take a chance.

and? they can always cut guys like Carriker & other clowns they have. History says you're chances of getting a ring aren't good if you don't have a top QB. Bradford's gonna be a good one & him being on their roster puts them closer to being good.

Hell, we can't even seem to extend most of our better players!!!

Bradford is the second coming of Peyton Manning. The guy will give us all we can handle for the next ten years. So what. We have Beanie. We have Leinart ready to step up to the plate. And most importantly, we have Wiz.

It wouldn't surprise me, I heard a local sports radio guy talking about Bradford after he got hurt. He said that he was talking to a long time NFL scout that said that Peyton was the best quarterback prospect he'd seen since Peyton.

I think Bradford is going to end up being VERY good but for the next 2-3 years I would be more concerned with the 49ers getting McNabb.

I am glad that FO is too screwed up to make what should be a no brainer deal for them.

And history also shows that a top QB alone can't win a SB. QB can't play defense. And let's not crown the guy before he takes a snap. There have been so many "bonus baby #1 pick" QBs that didn't amount to anything.

Who was the last spread QB to become a major NFL force? Bradford doesn't have nearly the athleticism that Vince Young had. He isn't nearly the athlete that Alex Smith was coming out of Utah.

Why would Bradford succeed when those guys failed?

didn't say alone.
Look up all the Super Bowl winners & tell me I'm wrong. You just dont win a Lombardi w/o a top QB, bottom line. Maybe 10 times in history has it happened.

Bradford appears to be more than athletic enough. And it appears that he has the physical tools to be a very productive NFL Qb. What we don't know, as we don't with any QB coming out of college, and does he have it between the ears... his NFL-type football I.Q.
Young gets by almost entirely on his physical skills. In a way, one might suggest that what we saw from Young this year could be his peak performance and contend that his over-dependence on his physical skills will only take him so far.
Then take a guy like Warner. One of the smartest, highest NFL I.Q.'s ever with very limited physical skills...
Maybe Bradford is somewhere in between... maybe not. We'll find out soon enough...

My point is that it's far, far more difficult to establish the football I.Q. of a player who played in a gimmick offense like the spread. He's going to have to learn a real offense and adjust to playing from under center. Those are two really big deals to overcome in the first two or three years that he's going to have before people start whispering that he's a bust.

I would never draft a QB from a spread offense in the first round. They just don't know how to read the field.

How many bigtime schools would you say don't run the spread? It seems more and more have shifted to that style of offense... I guess the question might be, will the NFL eventually begin to accomodate this trend, or not...

Bradford & McCoy played alot from the center early on in their careers. Too me its a must point since they have done it unlike Smith or VY

What year did Oklahoma not run the spread offense? "Early in their careers"? Did Sam Bradford play under center in High school, or something?

Yeah, Bradford plays a lot more under center than the typical spread QBs which is why he is hyped so much more than the likes of Dan Lefevour.

I want to see how long Bradford survives taking consistent hits from Porter, Campbell and Dockett. ;)

Mayock is high on Bradford because "there is a good amount of tape on him under center and with his back to the defense (play action) unlike most spread QB's". Not an exact quote but in the ball park.

I am not wishing he or anyone else get hurtbut our division is full of hard hitters. One huge hit from Willis or ADUB and Bradford is out for the year.

that is true of any player though

i don't think bradford is fragile by any means - his injuries were on the lower end of the scale for AC joint injuries and the surgery and rehab should make the area as strong (if not stronger due to the specific rehab) than before the injury

he could of suffered the same injury falling off a bicycle as it was the force of his body that did 90% of the damage

I do think his frame could use some specific conditioning and there are questions because he really wasn't hit that much at OU

however, i think he really needs practice in how to absorb a hit and learn how to fall ...... kind of like how they tell you the worst thing you can do is extend your arm and take the whole impact across your wrist/elbow/shoulder

in both cases he fell pretty much the same way and IMO that is what caused his injury more than anything as it doesn't take much to cause the injuries he received - you just need to be smarter in protecting them

Based on what? 2 hits he took in the BYU & Texas game. If your saying thats the case, that means Leinarts not lasting the season with his collarbone issues either.

Bradford can't be much more fragile than Marc Bulger IMO.

I'm hoping the Rams pass on him, but I'm afraid they are going to take him and he evolves into a solid or even a very good NFL quarterback. From watching him at OU and what I hear from Mike Mayock and others, he seems to be the type of guy who will put in the kind of effort needed to be successful at the NFL level. {There is just no substitute for hard work (and continuity on offense) at the QB position IMO.}

Just read a rumor that Rams are working out Colt McCoy, in the interest of taking Suh 1st and McCoy with their 2nd round pick. If that happens how far does Sam fall? Redskins should do a dance.

Rams are being coy about this whole situation, waiting(hoping?) for a blockbuster deal by some team. I've read that they just aren't thrilled with Clausen for whatever reason and many are saying the Redskins/Shanahan have real hard-on for Bradford so the Rams and Bradford aren't finalizing a contract right now.

If the hype is to be believed, and a few guys that I do trust their opinion like Mayock are giving glowing reports about Bradford, then the Rams are idiots for fooling around like this. If they think that Bradford is worth the #1 pick then they need to quit fartin' around and embrace the opportunity and keep Bradford on good terms.

I know, I know, business is business but I don't think all the pre-draft dancing with trade partners would be as beneficial for them as just committing to him, getting him under contract and moving forward. IF they think he's the guy. If they don't think he's the guy, then he shouldn't be drafted 1/1 anyway.

Don't get me wrong I agree you need an elite QB to be a consistent contender. What I don't agree with is you crowning Bradford before he has even taken a snap in the NFL. I don't see him as the next Peyton. I think he is more likely to be a Pennington than a Peyton.
