If Alex Smith had been a better QB, his first OC wouldn't have been named Green Bay Head Coach? And his second OC wouldn't have been named head coach in San Diego?

If Sam Bradford were a better QB, his first OC wouldn't have been named the head coach of the Cleveland Browns?

That makes no sense.
Their head coaches would not have been fired? That makes sense, whether you agree or not.

OT: Alex Smith completed only 2-6 passes for over 20 yards against the craptastic Jets. Oof.

Or, I guess you could say, even with coaches that went on to make the jump to HC, some successful, that Smith and Bradford still stunk. Either way is OK with me.

Bradford has the ability to light a team up. Teams who draft QBs number one, and are able to do so with a very early pick, also clearly have other problems than the QB position. The Rams have a problem right now and it's called their OL. They might be worse than ours. Lack of talent but also injuries for the current state both OLs are in. Division game and if we let one of their WRs beat us opposed to their running game, Bradford is capable of throwing for three hundred yards and a score if his OL allows him to do so. Our defense, especially if Dockett is able to play, may never allow him that possibility. We will have to score at least 21 points on them I feel at their house, and I hope our OL gives Kolb enough time.

based on the numbers, Bradford is more likely to put up sub 200 yards passing.

It makes some sense. To be fair, Mike Nolan, Mike Singletary, and Steve Spagnolo were all defensive head coaches. Nolan and Smith famously butted heads.

My argument isn't that these guys don't suck--not really. My argument is that they haven't had a chance to maximize their potential because they had such churning in their coaching staff and offensive philosophies. Smith with a little bit of support can be a productive player. Not enough to justify his draft position, clearly. But he's not Tim Couch or David Carr, either.

33% isn't an awful completion percentage on deep passes (over 20 yards through the air). Kolb was 2/5 last week on deep passes against Miami. Matt Schaub was 1/3 against Tennessee last week. Those are just hard passes to make.

I think the verdict is still out on Bradford. Jeff Fisher is no dummy and he thought enough of Bradford to pass on RGIII. Of course the boatload of draft choices was probably more of a factor in that decision.

So the rest of the NFC West churns through Coordinators. We churn through QB's. Fun.

And, despite winning, he was really not very good.

11 straight incompletions? Heh?

So Kurt Warner.
