If the Dolphins are indeed nearing a decision to release Madison, then the Cardinals should consider making a trade for his rights. This would guarantee that Madison would be one of our starting corners. On the open market teams like Buffalo, Chicago, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and probably Washington (they don't have to abide by the cap) would be the leading candidates for his services. I say talk trade with the Dolphins and ship them our fifth round pick in April's draft. Miami lost this pick to San Diego in the Seau trade last spring. It would be better for Miami to get a pick than just release Madison. Madison wouldn't like it, but the Cardinals could negotiate a good contract for his services. Keep in mind, the Cardinals could not draft a starting corner of Madison's ability in the fifth round. He would be a nice fifth round choice.

I'd throw a 4th and posibbly even as high as a 3rd to get it done - Seau was on his last legs - Madison is still aplyer - he's got more value than a 5th round pick if they decided to shop him.

Of all the potential ways we might be able to go to secure a CB, (left that is) Madison is the one I want. If all it would take was a lowly 5th round pick, man let's do it....hell I'd even throw in the 6th rounder as well.

I wouldn't want to part with a first day pick (3rd rounder), but I could depart with our fourth rounder again this year if the Dolphins played hardball on compensation. Trading with Arizona is advantageous because we pick at the top of each round. Miami really has very little negotiating leverage if they must release Madison, but securing his services is worth a mid-round choice no question. Denny tell Rod to make the call and then get Macklin back to Arizona. If Madison and Macklin are added then it's on to the draft!

That's why the fifth rounder is actually a fourth....well sort of.

I don't agree with the 4th round pick. There is always one guy who falls out of the first day and is an obvious pick up. With the cards having the 1st pick in the 4th round....they'll be on the clock for like 15 hours. We can get a good player there. Don't trade the 4th round.

If we could trade for Madison I would give up our second rounder if need be. I would try to offer a third. I love this trade idea. I think I will send an e-mail to Graves and see if we can plant this bug.

Well if Miami's GM is anything like Graves he'll just release him. Remember last year when Graves said he'd rather release THomas JOnes instead of getting minimal value for him.We did receive the great Marquise Walker and i gues JOnes showed this FA period that he did have some value.

as econd I think is too high - but defintely our third for Madison - Madison Berry and whoever we draft at #3 would mean we would be getting THREE impact players - while likely not breaking the bank and allowing ourselves to be players in FA next year - when we'll only need that one or two more guys to really put us over the hump. Madison would be huge on this team.

I would also rather send a third rounder, but we are in such a bad need for a shut down CB that I would offer a second rounder to get one. Madison would be a huge pickup for us. I sent Graves the e-mail so let's keep our fingers crossed and a couple of prayers couldn't hurt either.

Well, that is a good question.

However if he is released, say in a month's time, when all of the other teams who had CB needs have filled them, he has a smaller playing field to work with.

And then there is Green.....and I suspect if he were to put the full court press on him......I like our chances.

But this can only happen if Miami let him go.....which I think they will.

If he gets released and the Cards offer him the most bonus money he will sign with them.

Since most teams have blown their big money just wait for MIA to release him and sign him when he comes lose. I would probably not go higher then a 4th rounder for him. A third maybe...

Anyone know what kind of coverages Denny likes to use in his JETS defensive scheme?

Is it lots of press coverage? Or is it mainly Cover 2? Wouldn't this have a bearing on the kind of corner he'd be looking for.

Within this framework, would Madison fit here in our new defensive system? How about Macklin? How about the great man-guys like Woodson or McAllister? Or the rookie prospects like Hall or Gamble?

I think we need to understand this better before we can prognosticate or judge our future CB moves.

Not good news for the Madison fans. I think Taylor would be a better option anyways with his size; although his foot problems last year should be a concern.

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiheral...all/8120317.htm

.""But Howard's arrival will not necessarily signal the departure of veteran cornerback Sam Madison. Gene Burrough, who represents Madison, said Friday he is close to finalizing a restructured contract with the team.

''It should be done by Monday,'' said Burrough, who did not say whether the restructured deal would include a cut of Madison's scheduled $6.3 million salary for next season.

Madison's pay likely will decrease because most teams cannot afford three corners with starting-caliber salaries. Patrick Surtain, Madison and Howard are earning starting money, with Madison and Howard seemingly headed toward a training camp competition

How old is Madison? 28?

If he's any older than that, I don't think AZ goes after him. The Cards look like they aren't into signing the older FAs.

I can't recall where I read it, but Madison has pretty muched peaked & is now slowing down. He's still better than anything we have, but I definitely would NOT give a 4th rd pick for him.

He'll be 30 soon.....but how can you say that the Cards are not into signing older CB's than 30....they haven't signed any CB's yet!

He could be 40 and I would sign the guy.

He is a play maker. He is a ever down corner back.

Sam Madison? He is better than our whole Defensive backfield combined.

You bring him in with Starks, Jackson, Wilson, CoughTalyorcough, Hill, Macklin, and the rest.

Now we are talking defense.

Good LB's and Good DB's in the pass happy west. I will take that.

a 4th rounder is nothing is there any great 4th round draft picks in the NFL right now?? The 4th round pick this year will just be some depth guy, that sits the bench and backs up some dude. Madison is leaps and bounds better than any CB on this team, I would give a 3rd for him

The Cards have already signed to CB a couple3 of weeks ago. I don't remeber the names but I do remember they were out of football for a year.
