San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano faces felony marijuana charge

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...usano-felony-marijuana-possession/6000145002/

San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano was arrested early Saturday morning in Georgia after police found 79 grams of marijuana in his car.

Under Georgia state law, possession of more than one ounce of marijuana (28.35 grams) is considered a felony and can carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Campusano's arrest and release on $5,000 bond was first reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune.

“We were recently notified of the arrest of Luis Campusano in his hometown of Augusta, Ga. this past weekend,” the Padres said in a statement. “We are gathering information and have been in contact with MLB and local authorities. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have any further comment at this time.”

Stupid to have that be criminal in the first place, let alone a felony.

Note - in California that is a legal amount. Even in Arizona for a Card holder, it is so close to the legal limit no one would bother

Is 79 times the legal possession really acceptable?

It sounds like illegal dealing rather than personal use.

he didn't have 79 times the legal limit in Arizona 79 grams is less than 3 ounces. In Georgia over an ounce is a felony. In Arizona the legal limit for card holders is 2.5 ounces.

Well, since he wasn't in either of those states and he's from Georgia...you think he'd know better.

He also works in California, where the amount he had was no issue.

Yes, it is illegal in Georgia. But it is a stupid law.

Yeah, but, the law is the law.

That what they use to say about women or minorities who couldn't vote or people who freed slaves. The law is the law. Doesn't make it right. Hell, you can be put to death in some counties for being gay, but hey, the law is the law. The fact that being in possession of a plant can does so much good for the human body can put you in prison for 10 years is a major part of what is wrong with this country.
