This can't be.

Lies, lies, I tell you.

K-9 was at the game and knows the truth, and he never torques information to suit his particular bias.

If you are expecting Patrick Willis, you are going to be disappointed

Daryl Washington is a handy player to have -- a run and chase guy who can enhance coverage

Not noted on Sando's piece was a play he made early in coverage where he tipped a pass straight up into the air. Unfortunately, it seems a Cardinal tradition that tipped passes in the middle of the field somehow end up in the hands of the one offensive player in the area.

Someone here is NOT going to like this!

Calling k9....

This is what happens when you have extreme views one way or the other :)

You K9 bear the Daryl Washington cross and will carry it even as you continue to break it down for us and say half the tackles was made 6 yards downfield 85% of the time and he was pancaked on 7 different plays.

D Wash is one of the few guys who jumped out IMMEDIATELY during games and on film last year at least to me and I noticed others on the board as well. Repeating someones weight as a as a reason why they won't succeed, is failing to see he is already successful in almost everybody elses eyes.

I maintain by next year he will be a better player then Karlos Dansby was ever while here and definitely better next year as a whole compared to how Dansby plays on the Dolphins in 2012. Hes 10X as explosive and a better tackler.

IMO, people shouldn't hate on players who wear the Cards' emblem. You can be disappointed in performance (such as Levi Brown), but to make assertions based on puke and vitriol is completely immature and display a lack of understanding of how the game operates.

In addition to which, manufacturing statistics that have no relevance or true description of a players impact or potential is really bothersome. I think D-Wash is a good player and has great potential; however, some are too impatient and want him to be the next Patrick Willis out of the gate. Unrealistic expectations.

Just enjoy football and the development of young players. Not stress yourselves out.

Watched the game on computer and then again on NFL Network. Not sure how you could come away not being impressed by the game Washington played.

I am not sold on him yet either so it is not blind loyalty.

When the center guides Dan Williams to the side, there's a lane for Washington to charge through.

There is the key to Washington and for that matter all of our inside linebackers playing better in 2011.

As for being better than Dansby ever was, well Washington has a ways to go to do that. But he definitely has the quickness to "charge through" the holes our NT is making. Something that has been sorely lacking the last few years.

I don't know why I have to keep reminding people that Karlos Dansby put up combined overall numbers: tackles, sacks, interceptions, pdf, and forced fumbles, in Arizona equaled only by the top LBs in the NFL. He was a great player for us.

I hope Washington plays that well and I can talk about him like that 5-6 years from now.

Washington looks faster than last year. Of course I doubt he IS faster. It's his head which is running faster, and thus we are seeing his athletic ability on full (or close to it) showcase.

I love this kid's ability.

I agree completely. I like Washington and I believe he'll be a very good player for us (hopefully sooner than later) but I don't think he'll ever have the impact of a Dansby. Dansby was a complete player and is the kind of guy that turns an average defense into a great defense.

Sadly all Dansby had the opportunity to do in Arizona is turn a bad defense into an average defense. And a great Defense for 3 games and 57.5 minutes of the 2008-09 playoffs.

Washington's a nice complementary piece and I've been saying it from Day 1. I'd probably be a lot easier on him if he didn't wear #58 and remind me of the guy who was superior to him in pretty much every way when I look at him on the field.

Comments like AZF's on Dansby next year are what drive me nuts. Washington's never going to be as good as Dansby was here. That AZF wants to compare Washington in year 3 with a 31-year-old Karlos Dansby is telling. Dansby was only 28 when we let him walk!

Dansby was a player that defensive coordinators and opposing quarterbacks accounted for on every play--sometimes even before Dockett and often before Adrian Wilson. Daryl Washington is a fast guy.

Brace yourselves, gentlemen. This D is going to be pretty bad this year. Like 23+ points per game bad.

That wouldn't shock me. At least it's a 4 point difference and going in the right direction from last year. In 2010, our defense had to overcome the fact that we had so few sustained drives. They may have a similar situation this year as we appear to be kind of a boom or bust offense. We'll score more points but I'm not sure we're going to be eating up much more clock.

You got it. The defense better learn to play without having to have the offense let them rest for half an hour after every series because Kolb and Fitz are going to be scoring in like 32 seconds.

Solely because of Daryl, right?

Not at all. Daryl is part of the solution, not part of the problem. I think that it'll mostly be the OLB play and probably poor fits at DE playing two-gap when they're not good at it (especially Dockett). I see no reason why teams aren't going to be able to convert 3rd-and-3 at will, or really 3rd and 6. Our defense this season might primarily be based on hoping that the WR drops the ball (again).

I wish that Whis wasn't so married to the 3-4. I think that we would be better (and more cost-effective) converting to a Tampa-2.

Has any starter stood out more on defense then Cards ILB Daryl Washington in the preseason, last night seven tackles. Has the speed to go from sideline to sideline, becoming a good open field tackler, still needs to shed the blocks but Cards DC Ray Horton will use Washington very similar to Lawrence Timmons in Pittsburgh.

More praise for D-Wash.

Just making sure..

The lack of pass rush is going to be the biggest killer, hope Horton can get creative because Schofield is the only guy that can occasionally take advantage of 1 on 1's on the edge. Going to a tampa 2 would be interesting, we definitely have the dline to do it and the pieces at LB. We need to steal some LB scouts from Pitt that can actually identify elite talent to transition to OLB, or our D is never going to be much better than middle of the pack (and possibly a bit higher than that).

Note to self: We will not be facing Philip Rivers every Sunday... ;)

Quite true. We've just played back to back games against two very good and very stable offenses. Everybody is up against it this year with the shortened offseason but it stands to reason that teams like GB and San Diego will still shine early in the season. The problem for us is that we had such a long way to go (based on last season) and our improvements appear to be minor (perhaps marginal when you factor in the loss of DRC).

Starter wise, not really.

But it depends if Schofield starts or not.

Also if Toler is injured, Jefferson might be a starter. (and while I think Peterson will start, there is no guarantee he will at start of season...but I hope he does)

Dockett and CC have done some nice things. Porter and Haggans have had some moments. Dan Williams has done decent.

But I liked what I saw from David Carter last night. I have a feeling he's going to be pretty good and stay in the NFL for a long time. The UCLA coaches didn't 'hit it' right. This guy has some talent. I think he's going to be coached up and he's going to be a much better pro than he was a collegiate.

Obizor had some moments too. But I don't think he'll make the team.

What I like from our defense overall last night is that it swarmed to the ball in most cases. There were tons of cardinals in on many plays.

I think what's hurting us is that teams are taking what we give them. Little runs that break the first tackle, cutting routes off, dink and dunk stuff.

I don't want to see our receivers constantly 10 yards off the receiver. We keep giving teams free yards, they take them, and it makes the defenses job much harder to get off the field as they only have to convert some cheap stuff into 1st down, or a miss tackle at the line on a running play before 3 or 4 of guys get them after the first down.

I think it's correctable. C'mon horton, I'm sick of every dc we have playing our cb's waaay off the line. But I'm hoping this is because horton doesn't want to show some of his cards in preseason.

Our defense gets into too many 2nd and 5's and 3rd and 1's because of this imo.

I see the potential of our defense, even if it may never come to fruition without a bit more talent. In some ways I think our defense can even frustrate opposing offenses. But you give away too many dinks and dunks, and then whamm-o they hit you with a big gain, and then they have rhythm on their side. We need to quit letting them get into a rhythm for free.

Also we've done all of this without Wilson.
