John Clayton has confirmed through a source that the Pittsburgh Steelers have traded WR Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets. The Jets, according to 1050 ESPN, will send a 2010 fifth-round draft pick to the Steelers for Holmes, who has been dealing with off-field accusations of his own this offseason.

there must be more coming in the lawsuit down in Florida and Rooney has had enough, so bye-bye Holmes. Pitts now has to look at WR in the draft. Did they also get rid of the guy from Texas or do they just not like the way he has played?

Last straw was likley the pending reefer suspension, even if nothing comes of the drink in the face incident.

Limas Sweed is too inconsistent.

Mike Wallace likely steps into #2 and Dez Bryant becomes a legitimate threat to take Dez Bryant.

I don't think Pitt will take a chance on another Diva. I can see them trading down to get either Benn or Tate though.

My guess is that the Steelers will be looking very hard at Demaryius Thomas.

I think my surprise of the draft is looking pretty good right now. Knew something was up, they have had like 10 private workouts with like the top 10 WR's in the draft.

There are a lot of reasons why it only took a 5th. Pending lawsuit, pending suspension, one more mes up and he is gone for a year suspension, pending contract fight with it being the last year of his deal and he has already said he wants to get paid. Finally they let him go because of Ben. In a round about way they cant get rid of Ben so they get rid of the other bad publicity guy on the team to save face.

Unless Santonio is a complete headcase, I don't understand how the Steelers couldn't get a higher pick. Teams like the Bears had to be willing to give up a 4th for a 1250 yard receiver.

Pretty much this. Plus, if he misses 4 games, he only plays 12 more games for them before he hits the open market and they get nothing (except maybe a comp pick) for him. Not to mention, I would think even the Rooneys see the writing on the wall that the playoffs are not going to happen this year.

If only they could have traded him 2 off-seasons ago.

Also reported by the New York Post. This is not surprising, given the kid was caught with marijuana already and is now being suspended for substance abuse of some kind.

Apparently Leon Washington was apart of the deal also.

I think the underlying reason behind this trade, was to show Big Ben and the rest of the team that the TEAM comes first and ownership won't hesitate to jettison anyone that hurts the Steeler's image. I now think Big Ben is on shaky ground, no matter what happens with his current legal situation.

Interesting. You would think NFL network would know about that. Not reporting it.
