USC didn't learn from bringing back Lane Kiffin and have selected Steve Sarkasian as their new HC. Ed Orgeron has re-signed and some players are not happy.

Sark had a mediocre tenure at UW and USC probably wanted to get the search over with to bring in recruits. Sark had a couple of good recruiting classes but his staff is more responsible for bringing in those recruits.

Sark is much better than Kiffin. Still not a great hire but I've learned you can't judge these things right off the bat.

Fans here are upset. Not that I think Ed O is a good coach, but he brought that team back from the depths of hell that Kiffin put it into simply by showing he cared. He deserved a chance to coach the team long-term.

One thing PAC fans need to keep an eye on is to see if Mora Jr. goes to UW. Rumors are swirling that he's either going to take the job or is leveraging a raise from UCLA.

Watch the PAC 12 South implode after this hire. Now Washington has a vacancy. Who'd be their top choice? Probably Mora. Let's assume their sweet new facilities and his "dream job" lure him back to the Pacific Northwest. Then UCLA has a vacancy. And all of a sudden, the LA market is back to square one with its coaches/recruiting/rebuilding efforts.

USC did ASU a favor on this one, I think. Terrible hire.

Ed O to UCLA or Cal??? Or is he still an assistant next year?

You are on to something. But some see this as a Brilliant move by Pat Haden. Washington is now pursuing UCLA's coach. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-1203-ucla-mora-washington-20131203,0,4062063.story#axzz2mQxD6sDh
So not only did Haden pick up a decent coach, he potentially puts UCLA in turmoil here.

Sark is a Washington guy, he walked on there as a player and lives up there.

This will be interesting to follow.

He resigned and was reportedly upset about getting passed over. Haden offered to make him Assistant HC and one of the highest paid in the country but Ed left anyway. I think if Mora leaves for UW, Ed O goes to UCLA and they will not skip a beat in terms of recruiting or on field success. Plus he will be able to stick it to USC every year.

This whole hire looks FUBAR. Going back to the future. Pete Carroll left USC in NCAA outhouse. Both Kiffin and Sarkisian were on that staff and may have been complicit in the violations. So now Pat Haden brings both of them back. Maybe he wants business as usual. It also looks as if S S was the 5th choice.

Ed Orgeron may be the dumbest character in this whole event. He quit his job as interim coach. Threw away the chance to coach USC in a bowl game. Now every AD searching for a HC knows he stunk it up at Mississippi. Quit on USC and burned every bridge he could. Good luck with that resume' Ed.

Looks like USC saved Washington the hassle of terminating S S. His performance there was mediocre at best and he probably would have been let go eventually.

The Sark hire criticism it has received almost makes him underrated at this point. 2013 Washington isn't 1993 Washington. A big train named Oregon and Phil Knight came along and made that basically impossible.

Sarkisian knows LA recruiting, knows USC, and most importantly knows how to recruit and develop QB's. He's got a terrific DC coming with him as well. He's going to do really well in Watts, not Pete Carroll well but solid. Lest we forget that Sark walked into an 0-12 team (and had won a grand total of 12 games over the prior five seasons) and turned them into a winner despite having a top 5 program less than four hours from campus. The 'we're going to rule the Pac' stuff is pure myopia. I bet you Sark goes to at least 2-3 Rose Bowls with the Trojans.

Saying Sarkasian was mediocre at Washington is under selling how well he really did there. The Huskies were in bad shape before he took over. He restored them to respectability and pretty quickly, also putting them in better shape long term than they were in when he took over.

Now that Mora has decided to stay at UCLA, rumored top candidates for the job are James Franklin, Tim DeRuyter, Jim McElwain, Justin Wilcox (who is supposed to be following Sark to USC, but that changes if he gets the Washington HC gig) and Doug Nussmeier. Reportedly, Gary Pinkel is refusing to even discuss the job, which could mean something or could mean nothing. Also there's gonna be the regular Chris Petersen is leaving Boise rumor.
