Let's not give Tommie Harris TOO much credit. He DEFINATELY has some help on his defensive line between Alex Brown, Anderson, and Ogualelelsyewayse

I will give him that much credit. He is the focus despite having those other guys on the front 4. He is still the guy teams role their OL coverages to yet Harris still produces. Plus Harris is a really good run defender, something Dockett is only average at best at.

My sources are telling me that the Cardinals have received trade offers on both WR Anquan Boldin and DE Darnell Dockett, and that the Cardinals are very close to pulling the trigger on both deals.

The Dallas Cowboys are offering WR Patrick Crayton and their 2nd round pick in 2009 for WR Anquan Boldin. The Cardinals want the Cowboys to add T James Marten to the deal and will settle for Crayton, Marten and a 3rd.

The Atlanta Falcons are offering RB Jerious Norwood and their 4th round pick for Dockett. The Cardinals want Norwood and a 3rd and will add J.J. Arrignton to get it...but are strongly considering the deal, Norwood and a 4th, as is.

Crayton is a super slippery WR who put up good numbers last year, but dropped a key pass versus the Giants that Cowboy fans are still lamenting. He scored 7 TDs last year from the following distances: 3, 4, 4, 8, 20, 37, 59.

Norwood is the blazer at RB the Cards covet...he would need to be tendered next year in his 4th year, but the Cards would have money to burn if they deal Boldin and Dockett, and Norwood would be worth it. Two years down the line he and Tim Hightower would be a prodigious "thunder and lightning" combination.

Seems there is not much room to negotiate with Boldin so Mitch my well be on the money:

Arizona pulled off a mega trade Tuesday. The Cardinals traded one set of wide-receiver issues for another.

After awarding wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald with a four-year, $40 million extension that includes $30 million in guaranteed money, the Cardinals’ salary spotlight shifted instantly to wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who is scheduled to be paid considerably less than his receiving counterpart.

Last season, the Cardinals offered Boldin a contract extension, and here’s the key fact to consider: Boldin told them he wanted to wait for Fitzgerald to finalize his new deal. Now that he has, it dwarfs Boldin’s, whose average annual salary is three to four times less than Fitzgerald’s.

Boldin is scheduled to make $2.5 million in base salary this season, $2.75 million in base salary in 2009 and $3 million in base salary in 2010.

Yet, Fitzgerald did not sign a four-year, $22.75 million contract extension the way Boldin did back in July 2005, when he received $13.25 million in bonuses and salary in 2005-’06. Still ...

Whereas there were contract issues in recent weeks regarding Fitzgerald, who became the subject of trade inquiries from other wide-receiver-needy teams, there now are expected to be contract issues regarding Boldin, who is bound to become the subject of trade inquiries from other wide-receiver-needy teams.

Teammates to finish with 100-plus receptions
Year Players Team Rec.
2005 Arizona Larry Fitzgerald
Anquan Boldin 103
102
2000 Denver Rod Smith
Ed McCaffrey 100
101
1995 Detroit Herman Moore
Brett Perriman 123
108
Philadelphia, Washington and Dallas have explored the possibility of acquiring a big-name wide receiver, only to find that there aren’t any readily available. Now those teams could wind up exploring Boldin’s availability.

Boldin’s decision will be whether or not to approach the Cardinals for an extension. His agent is the deal-making Drew Rosenhaus. It will be up to Rosenhaus to plot the best course of action for the 27-year-old Boldin. But his numbers compare favorably to Fitzgerald’s, and many within the Cardinals organization consider Boldin to be the better receiver.

Boldin has been voted to two Pro Bowls; Fitzgerald has been voted to two Pro Bowls.

Boldin has 413 catches for 5,458 yards and 29 touchdowns; Fitzgerald has 330 catches for 4,544 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Both are an integral part of the Cardinals' young and improving offense. But it could be difficult to pay both.

The fine print
Not only does the 24-year-old Fitzgerald cash in now, but he is bound to cash in later, once his current deal expires.

Fitzgerald’s new deal contains a clause stating that, if the Cardinals franchise him at the end of the new contract in 2012, it will have to be done to the tune of $23 million for that season.

But the Cardinals also benefitted from Fitzgerald’s new deal. It will save Arizona $8 million against the salary cap this off-season, money it now can use to sign second tier free agents.

For some reason I was compelled to add that.

We will see if Mr. Money Harris plays up to the billing this year.

Norwood has on 202 carries 1,243 yards which averages out to 6.2 yards per carry & 3 touchdowns. Show me a back in the league that averages 6.2 ypc.

Mewelde Moore averaged 5.5ypc and 10.2ypr in '06 for the Vikes. Last year he averaged 5.6ypc but only on 25 carries, as Peterson and Taylor owned the show. I pimped him all offseason as he was a FA, but Pitt got him for 1 mill a year. This guy could have been a huge help for us if we weren't too busy bending over for Fitz.

Dockett was good the first half the season & then disappeared in the second. Mind you he made the pro-bowl due to other DL not able to make the trip. If you are satisified with Dockett & his eight sacks as being the best thing since sliced bread, then you have grown to love average. Plus on top of everything else, Mr. eight sacks is going to hold out unless he gets a new contract. That is after signing a new deal last season. So as far as I am concerned Mr. Eight Sacks and his agent can go to atlanta. We can get a 6.2 ypc on our team. If Norwood was on team & he works out then I say signed the guy to a better deal. It is about Production to Salary my friend. Dockett production doesn't justify a new contract. You must have forgotten that the Cardinals drafted Mr. Eight Sacks in the 3rd. Here is another history lesson for you. Micheal Straham was taken in the second round. So you can get a great player in the 2nd round.

It would be ridiculous IMO to trade an everydown lineman and a very good one at that for a situational player. Plain and simple. We are not in a position to make a move like that. We are just getting some depth on the line and now people wanna talk about destroying that and relying on untested rookies to produce all season for us in vital roles again. No thanks. The draft pick is nice and all, but this team isn't full of rooks. They are ready to win now and this trade would be a move in the opposite direction. We have been rebuilding for 60yrs, lets take what we have and try to win already.

Also, Berry's injury had to play a role in Dockett's decline, but I would put much more of it on things like fatigue, double teams, and the fact that our entire secondary aside from Rod Hood was gone. Look at the difference in defense for the Colts when Bob Sanders is hurt. How was anyone supposed to get sacks when the opposing WRs only needed 1/2 second to get open?

All of that said, I am not nearly as in love with Dockett as most on this board are, and if we could find a better deal I would be open to it.

I hear this said a lot and dont buy it. I watched every game last year and he occassionally got double teamed but he never -as far as I could see- got triple teamed.

Maybe I missed it but most times DD was matched up mano-y-mano

There was a story where Dockett was quoted as saying the number of snaps he played last year took a toll. The depth wasn't there to keep him off the field for extended periods.

Norwood touched the ball 131 times & gained 890 yards. That is more productions than Shipp & Arrington combined. The Cardinals need a home run threat in the running game & someone who can produce when on the field. What kind of production did Moore have? A team needs two runningbacks as well as 2 quaterbacks. Dockett imo will not be that hard to replace. I saw what Tommy Harris had to say & I quote. "I have said that every football player is overpaid. We get paid to play a kids game." I love that attitude. I don't like the attitude of pay me only if I do give a half a season. I don't care if you showed me the money last season. I want more.

He had virtually no production last year, but I am anxious to hear the arguement that Norwood would have gotten touches with Peterson and Taylor on the same roster.

If you look at their #'s the two are very similar. Exact same size and attributes. 1 year difference in age. Moore has more more touches and total yards, so i dont get why you question his production.

agree 100%. I have been ranting this for three years.

I am not and never have been a huge fan of Dockett the man. I love his heart and passion, but cant stand the stupid penalties and the way he has went about his contract issues. The bottom line though is that he is one of the top three young players at his position in the game, and d-line is far more important than the RB position.

I don't know about that. According to the Patriots, the most important man on their team is the cameraman.

Any updates on this? I'd love to be able to know if I need to be trying to unload my DD jersey on somebody.

We traded D-Dock and Leinart to the Chargers this morning for the rights to Ryan Leaf.

Awesome, Leaf is supposed to be a pretty good QB coach now so maybe he can help bring our young QB's along .......uhhh wait.

Isn't it time to end this thread. It is getting awfully strange. If they leave they leave, then we all know that the organization is still the same old Cardinals, and if they stay and "Q" gets his rightful reworked Contract then this team has really turned the corner and is about to play with the big boz's. DD needs to have another breakout year to really show his worth.

This post makes no sense. All you did by writing it is prolonging the life of the thread, as people are going post on here to tell you how wrong you are now.

what he means is you said the thread needs to end and then you started having conversation in the thread thus making your first claim hipocritical.

I hate both deals.

And I'm suspicious of "unnamed sources."

Nevertheless, Mitch's info is so specific that it would be foolish to dismiss it out of hand.

I'm just hoping it turns out to be bogus.
