Schilling-Appenidix operation???

Headline from CBS Sportsline says Schill is having surgery today to remove his appendix. Does anyone know the full scoop on this??

Only that Republic says he felt poorly yesterday and worse this AM, and Cards doctors felt it needed to be operated on promptly - not "emergency" in the sense of it having burst or anything - just get it taken care of before it gets worse. He may only miss one start, perhaps, but I'd be a little surprised at that.

My wife had the same situation, she could barely WALK for almost 2 weeks after the procedure let alone throw a baseball 95 MPH. She was in great shape too (10k runner) and it took her well over a few months just to regain normal mobility.

I've never had one but I guess they sort of come on without warning. He certainly looked true to form his last start out.

My wife is a nurse and she said that if it was laposcopic surgery then recovery is short and from info that is out, that is what was done. Get well soon Curt38

I think there is something in the water here (in St. Louis) lol. We already have Jason Isringhausen, J.D. Drew, and Lance Painter on the DL and have had injuries to Fernando Vina, Albert Pujols, Jim Edmonds, Eli Marrero, Joe Girardi, and Eduardo Perez.

Seems like everyone who comes here gets hurt this season. Too bad for you guys that the Giants don't come to town until July.

Here's the full story on Schilling. Don't worry, Barnes is a good hospital. Schill will be fine. That's where the Rams' Kurt Warner has his Appendectomy a few years ago and where all the Cardinals players have their surgeries whenever they need em'.

Pitcher might miss only one start

ST. LOUIS -- Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Curt Schilling underwent an appendectomy Saturday during the team's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, but might miss only one start.


Schilling was in pain on Friday when the team arrived for the start of a three-game series and manager Bob Brenly said the pain was more acute on Saturday. Cardinals team doctors recommended surgery.


"Obviously it was something we couldn't afford to put off for another couple days," Brenly said. "The doctors that came over from the St. Louis side recommended that they do it right away.


"We thought about maybe even flying him back to Phoenix but they suggested against that."


The Diamondbacks hesitated to characterize the operation as an emergency situation.


"I don't think it was ruptured or burst," Brenly said. "But it certainly looked like it was heading in that direction."

A team spokesman characterized the operation as a "routine procedure." Schilling could be released from Barnes-Jewish Hospital as soon as Sunday but likely won't return to Arizona until Tuesday or Wednesday.


Schilling, 36, has been runnerup for the NL Cy Young award the last two seasons, winning 45 games during that span. He was 23-7 last year with 3.23 ERA.


This year he's 1-2 with a 4.28 ERA. Schilling had been scheduled to pitch Wednesday at home against the Expos.


All of the Diamondbacks starters had been set to get an extra day of rest before the surgery, and now the remaining four in the rotation will work on regular rest.

The Republic reported today that Curt will miss at least 7-10 days.

Will he be ready to go 7 or 8 innings then? It might be a little longer before he's back to being Curt38!
