If it has to happen I like scenario 1. I would love for Soriano to change to the purple pin-stripes.

Jeff Weaver? WTF?

Soriano goes to RF?

I'm still debating to I'd rather have. Sexton/Johnson?

Johnson gets on base, is young, and could provide 20-30 HR real soon.

Sexton has power that will alleviate the pressure of Gonzo. Yet, he strikes out quite often.

Could Colangelo be driving up the price of Schilling (to the Phils)? I'm surprised he's come out and talked as candidly as he has.

Dealing Schilling now (for the right players) could pay off big-time down the road.

I am not really sold on Johnson...definately do not want Jeff Weaver....but getting Soriano would be awesome.

Yankees reportedly (ESPN) were very concerned about Soriano from midseason on - that he was suddenly a complete airhead on the field and also too much so at the plate, had to be constantly reminded to check for signs, lost track of outs - a lot like we're used to with Spivey, some to think of it, so maybe.... as long as we didn't have both in the infield at once! Gawd, imagine that, and with Hillenbrand, too. Shudder.

Soriano has so much talent. He almost was a 40-40 guy two years ago. He is still very young and his speed and power will improve this offense.

I would rather see Johnson than Sexson because Sexson is a free agent after this year and he makes a lot of money now, he'll want more after next.

I think Weaver needs a change of scenery. There are those who can pitch in NY and some who can't. Just ask Ed Whitson. Weaver was a very good pitcher in Detroit and if he can regain his old form that would be huge.

Weaver's got 2 more years at > 6 million so he better pick it up if we get him. I don't think they will bite of on that one, but Soriano in right, Spivey at second; it would be nice to see some speed back.

I'd LOVE To See Soriano ANYWHERE In the Field as a Diamondback.

Maybe AZ Could Work out a deal like this....

NYY Gets...
Schilling
Bautista
Mantei

MIL Gets...
Hillenbrad
N. Johnson

AZ Gets ...
Sexson
Soriano
Weaver

Would this deal be possible. It may be kind of a dream deal, but itd be great. Weaver is not that bad. I mean he played for NYY. Many players do not live up to thier potential there. But I would go after Soriano before Sexson. But having both would be great. I know that thier is little possibilities of this happening, but itd be great.

From today's NY Times:

"Because the Yankees would be adding Schilling's $12 million salary for 2004 and would be helping provide the Diamondbacks financial flexibility, baseball officials say the Yankees do not feel they should have to give up equal talent for a pitcher that their principal owner, George Steinbrenner, views as Roger Clemens's replacement."

Basically, the Yankees want Schilling for some magic beans, and nothing else - - it would suck to lose Schilling via free agency with nothing in return, but I'd rather have him for another season than give him up to the Evil Empire getting zilch in return; I hope Joe Jr. doesn't fall prey to Darth Steinbrenner's mind tricks!!

Curt isn't giving up no trade clause... he's just let the D'backs know that he'll consider a trade to Philly and NYY as long as they meet certain conditions.
