We had a chance to go two games up on the Padres and Scott Hairston hit a 3 run HRin the bottom of the ninth with two outs walk off. That hit alone may be reason enough to have not traded him DAMNIT!!! At least we got the W.

I'm pretty sure Hairston's 3 HR game earlier cost us a game in the standings as well. It's obvious Hairston's trade was a direct result of signing Byrnes to an extension. He was traded after Byrnes was signed after that ATL series and Hairston was traded during that series.

Wasn't it his first 2 games as a Padre that Hairston had walk-off type performances. And now this...

I think he is batting around .150 if it makes anyone feel better about letting him go.

Umm....Hairston's hitting .364/.420/.795/1.215 in 44 ABs since he's been traded to SD

Well if the Pirates can pull off a win today (unlikely), it will still give us some breathing room.

They play at 12:30 today (AZ Time).

This link will take you to the radio station broadcasting the game in San Diego.

I stand corrected.

Since a game winning HR in the 10th against SF on August 3, he has been just 5 for 30 (.167) with two outs and runners in scoring position.

That was a horrible trade. Diamondbacks could of received better. Good to see Scott get that homer.

Off former Dback, Jorge "just a bit outside" Julio too. Though, when I saw that Julio was pitching, I knew they would score at least one run.One game he closed for us, he gave up like, 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th, oddly enough, in Denver against the rockies.

Seems like the DBacks could have used his bat a little more this season.
Despite his few good shots, there wasn't really a place for Hairston on the D'backs.

It's not a question of Hairston over empty space. It's him against the rest of the outfield roster.

My opinion is that Hairston lost, deservedly.

He did have a pinch hit grand slam with us, if I remember right. Though that was about the biggest thing he did while in a Dbacks uni.

Scott hit his 13th homer tonight and he also had two doubles. It's amazing how fast they gave up on him and Carlos.

The Dbacks gave Hairston ample opportunities to prove himself - he didn't here. And in your dream scenario, keeping both, one of either CQ, Hairston, Upton or Young would be on the bench. Hairston was expendable, based on his performance.

Obviously Hairston and Carlos could not both be starting in the outfield but having one of them in the outfield minus Byrnes would be better. This entire mess can be attributed to the signing of Eric Byrnes.

Byrnes was a journeyman who played on four teams and I think most knew he was not going to keep up with the numbers he had during last July. Eric is more about himself and how he looks on the field and off. I think the front office got caught up in all that and did not want to upset the fans who enjoy watching Byrnes play. Let's hope they never make that mistake again.

And wanted someone other than a rookie or second year position player to become their lead marketing image from the everyday lineup.

Byrnes' picture on the advertising. A TV show.

We would have been much better off with Webb and Haren for our advertising.
