10. Arizona Cardinals (5-11)
Top-five needs: DB, TE, QB, OT, OLB
The pick: +Ernie Sims, OLB, Florida State
The Cardinals are mightily impressed with Justice but they know he's a bit of a reach at No. 10. They would love for Huff to fall to them here, but that's not the case in this scenario. Furthermore, while Jimmy Williams is high on everyone's board in terms of overall talent, there are too many concerns regarding his personality for the Cardinals to risk this high a pick on him. With all that said, the Cards will have a tough decision to make between Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler, who provides promise for the future, and Sims, who could make an immediate impact playing opposite another young athletic outside linebacker, Karlos Dansby. Head coach Dennis Green and his staff are poised to make a playoff run soon, and Sims will help the team achieve that goal a lot quicker than Cutler.

41. Arizona Cardinals
Marcedes Lewis | TE | UCLA

72. Arizona Cardinals
Alan Zemaitis | DC | Penn State

107. Arizona Cardinals
Omar Jacobs | QB | Bowling Green

142. Arizona Cardinals
Jonathan Lewis | DT | Virginia Tech

177. Arizona Cardinals
Antoine Bethea | DS | Howard.

218. Arizona Cardinals
Dennis Roland | OT | Georgia

I love this draft (sans the third round), but I guess you already know why. :)

I love the players from round 2-7, in fact I like it a lot, but there is one big problem....

No OL until the 7th round. You got to be joking.

Justice is a bit of a reach at 10 yet Sims isnt, didnt get that line of reasoning at all.

If rounds 2-7 go that way I would rather take Justice. Or Williams then an OL on the 3rd instead of Zemaitis.

Must get help for the OL on day one. Sims is a reach for sure at #10, if Cutler is there the Cards will pick him. Maybe Denny has to win this year but Graves and Bidwill will call the shots not Denny.

I'll prefer to have Daryn Colledge (who was taken 74th in this mock) instead of Zematis, but he'd probably still would be a big improvement at FS. And as to the Ernie Sims hate, bleh, hate on. The same I've said before proves evident. Don't sleep on the kid, I'm telling you!

Jay Cutler would be a reach at #10, too.

The kid will be sleeping himself if he has any more concussions, which he will without a question.

Q: You mentioned injuries, is a primary concern of yours the concussions that you have suffered through the past three years?

A: "Not necessarily concussions because a lot of football players get concussions. It's just that I have had several surgeries. If I did come back I would be risking an injury again or not even being able to play again. I don't know if I am going to be able to play again after tomorrow so that's why I want to take advantage of this opportunity."

Sims according to KFFL has admitted to having had 5 concussions in his 3 years at FSU but reports are there were more than that and that he had more than one while in HS.

I love the kid he's a warrior but even he admits his college career wasn't what he expected because of all the injuries. I just don't see how moving up to the NFL where everyone is bigger is going to make the injuries go away?

After the Orange Bowl Sims was told his NFL draft projection was early 2nd round, quite honestly that's where I think he should be picked, a first round pick on a guy with his injury history is just a HUGE gamble IMHO.

What are the concerns on Jimmy Williams? I saw him last night on the NFL network and they never mentioned any issues and he seemed extremely respectful guy.

I would love to have him as the Cards safety at #10

This is the worst mock for the Cards that I have seen yet. This is a McGinnis mock....

Mock drafts almost always go based entirely on need. Thats why you view them as entertainment and nothing more

I think what he meant, and how it came out were entirely different. i think he's trying to say I'm not really concerned with concussions, I just don't want to get a serious injury that kills my career before i get paid.

but it sure came off as I'm hurt all the time I want to get paid while I can.

he's right a lot of football players do get concussions but he admits to at least 6 (5 in college 1 in HS) and there's speculation that he's not being totally upfront when he says 5. this past year he skipped the Duke game because he was having complications from a concussion and the doctors weren't sure if it was lingering from 2 games ago or if he'd suffered another one in the last game and nobody knew. that's teh stuff I found researching the guy that scares me. When you have a concussion and aren't sure you have one, how many you've had and when it happened, that's a big red flag to me.

I think he's a hell of a player but at his age to already have this problem is scary.

Are concussions a thing that recurs? Is it like a sprained ankle in that once you get one, it's easier to get more?

Absolutely. That's why Steve young retired. I went to HS with a kid that had 4-5 concussions in HS from playing football and basketball. His senior year he was walking between classes and just as he went by the library, someone opened the door and nailed him in the head with a big wooden door. concussion, football career over. The doctors told him that he was getting concussions progressively "easier" and that it was unsafe to keep playing.

This was 20+ years ago but that's precisely why Steve Young retired, doctors said they can't guarantee what happens the next time someone hits him. Recall that hit by Aeneas was a good clean hit that really didn't seem all that bad at the time, but it ended Young's career.

And Sims is a LB known for big hits, most of his concussions were him knocking himself out making a tackle.
