The Seattle Seahawks have been incredibly active in free agency, agreeing to terms with 10 additions to date. General manager John Schneider has made equal parts outstanding, shrewd, and confusing decisions. With the outside signings hitting double digits following kick returner/wide receiver Steven Sims, we've decided to identify our three favorite additions so far.
Cooper Kupp is arguably the most exciting addition Schneider has made. Kupp signed a three-year contract worth $45 million to be WR2 opposite Jaxon Smith-Njigba this coming season. He returns to the area after being born in Yakima, Washington and playing college football at Eastern Washington. Signing a former rival Los Angeles Rams player added some sweetener.
Schneider went bold at quarterback by trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, replacing him by adding Sam Darnold in free agency. The commitment isn't overly large given the position, but the Seahawks think Darnold is a franchise QB, signing him to a three-year deal worth more than $100 million. His addition changes the dynamic on offense this coming year.
Head coach Mike Macdonald loves rostering a full rotation at EDGE. Signing veteran Pro Bowl pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence ensures the defense will be loaded at outside linebacker in 2025. Lawrence adds experience and production to a young room alongside Derick Hall, Uchenna Nwosu, and Boye Mafe.
