Seahawks | Team expected to hire Marmie
Fri, 17 Feb 2006 05:20:29 -0800

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Seattle Seahawks are expected to add former St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Larry Marmie to their coaching staff soon. The Seahawks interviewed Marmie this week. Marmie presumably would help out with the secondary.

There is always a job in the NFL for experienced assistant coaches. Competence is not a qualification. Its called the good old boys network.

to me this makes me think that ray rhodes could be on his way out with health issues / or at least scaled back

aside from being the overall DC - rhodes specialty has always been the secondary - if they are bringing in help for that area there has to be a reason

I don't like the guy as a coordinator - hopefully he does a better job as a positional guy - in ruskell I trust

It's nauseating that Larry Marmie still can get a good, well-paying job. If I was an incompetent employee at every job I've had for the last fifteen years I'd be running the drive-thru at Taco Bell, not making six figures coaching in the NFL. I am ecstatic he's still ihanging around the NFC West on a team not named the Cardinals though.

Wow, What a Week!

First Warner re-signs with the Cardinals.

Now Marmie might move to the Hawks.

Makes the Warner signing that much more effective for at least a couple of week. Here I was worried that Marmie might leave the division.

Pretty much shoots any ideas like "karmic justice" in the butt.

We tried to tell Rams fans about how terrible he is. And now we will say the same to Seahawk fans. He is quite possibly the worst DC in the NFL and look for your DB's to take a step back this year.

Actually wasn't his best years spent as a D-Backs coach? That is probably the position he is most suited for. Now if they promote him to DC then were in business.

Over the last few years how many 30+ point games have both the Rams and Seahawks put up on Marmie defenses? The fact that both of these teams hired him after seeing what he brings to the table astounds me.

Keep laughing funny boy.

Marmie is the most insidious evil that that could be afflicted upon a football team.

Something about his defenses makes it appear that they really work.

Then you look up at the scoreboard in the 4th quarter and you see that you've given up 31.

I don't know how to explain it, but Marmie's bend-don't-break philosophy seems to slowly suck the life out of its personnel. It's scary. I think it teaches them to be passive.

As the season goes on, you'll gradually drift into the bottom third of the league in all defensive categories. In 2007, if Marmie is still there, you'll start out in the bottom third, and never recover.

This very scenerio played out with Rams last year. At first their defense played okay. But marmies scheme drained their will. In the end, they were dancing around on the field like little girls! :D

Man, marmie and superbowl runner up status. I'm really not flaming when I say that you guys might not win seven games next year.

Marmie was a good DB coach with us. Peter principal when he was promoted to DC.

Next season is already startin' to look good.

Marmie talking to the defense:
"Remember guys, bend, but don't break!" "Give 'em the yardage, but don't give up the big play!"
