1978: Steve Little, P-K, Arkansas

Really, the Cardinals picked this guy in the 1st round in 1978 ? What is the story on that!?!

He was an awesome kicker in college. Consitently putting up 60yrd punts, 50+ yrd field goals, and kicking the ball out of the end zone on kick offs. Probably they were looking at him replacing Jim Bakken. My dad and uncle wondered about why they used a 1st rd pick on him.

Unfortunately it did not work out and he was released. Tragically he had a horrible car accident the day he was released and was paralyzed.

Rugby, what about drafting these guys:

1) Steve Pisarkiewicz when they had one of the NFCs best in Jim Hart :mulli:

And then

2) Kelly Stouffer when they had a Pro Bowl QB in Neil Lomax :bang::bang:

Maybe these things come in pairs...Little & Lee...Pisarkiewicz & Stouffer...then RB Thompson & Letric Lelland McElroy at RB in the 2nd...then Big & Levi Clown at LT & giving both #75. ;)

Gotta luv Cardinal history, which is what it is...the past!!!

Rememeber all of this well. Don't forget Clyde Duncan. Oh the pain George Boone and Bidwill Sr. caused.

Boone was a boom or bust kind of drafter

after the Steve Little draft in 78:

1979: Ottis Anderson and Roy Green ( and couple other starters) -- btw: they also drafted Kirk Gibson in that draft

1980: Doug Marsh, Curtis Greer and Charlie Baker ( solid starters).

1981: EJ Junior, Neil Lomax and Stump Mitchell
1982: Luis Sharpe, Tootie Robbins

its a pretty good four year run.

The problem was, they didnt keep enough of them

Dont forget that great LBer out of Michigan st, Anthony Bell

If you look at where Boone went wrong (kicker aside) they'll were all off the charts size/speed prospects who didn't really produce in college.

Bell, Duncan, John Barefield.

I think there was a two year period where of the first and second round, three of the four players were from Texas A&M.

What's wrong with that you ask? It was Texas A&M Kingsville.

As unbelievable as it sounds, George Boone was a worse GM than Rod Graves.
