For the second time on Monday, a Clemson basketball player has entered the transfer portal.
Hours after freshman forward Asa Thomas entered the transfer portal, freshman guard Del Jones has also hit the portal, according to a report from On3's Thomas Goldkamp.
Jones, who played in 32 games his freshman season in 2024-25, did not start but averaged almost 12 minutes a night with 3.8 points and 1.8 rebounds. The 6-foot-2 guard played a season-high 24 minutes in the Tigers' 72-57 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Jan. 25. He had a season-high 13 points while making five of seven shots from the field.
Jones, who starred at SoCal Academy in Castaic, Calif., committed to Clemson and coach Brad Brownell in October 2023 after receiving offers from a litany of schools -- among them Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, NC State and South Carolina.
With sixth-year senior Chase Hunter having played his last game as a Tiger, Jones would have had an ample opportunity to start for Clemson in 2025-26.
Clemson won a program-best 27 games this season, including 18 ACC victories, this season. The Tigers suffered a 69-67 upset loss to McNeese State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday in Providence after a dismal first half in which they were held to 13 points.
