I do not follow PAC 10 Sports so I was unaware that AZ State has a good QB who will be a senior this season. Sporting News says he may go #1. Is this emphatic desire by some fans not to draft a QB this past draft, even though McCown is unproven, driven by the hope that some how the Cardinals will get a shot at the home town hero next year? I am not saying that is Green's philosophy. I am asking the question is that what some of the fans are hoping for.

No way. Andrew Walter is still very much an unknown. I think the only reason we "passed" on Eli (not that they ever thought a team would really pass on him at #1) was because Green believed in Josh and really wanted Fitz.

How often do people say a certain guy will be #1 overall and then he flops the next season? There's too much time between now and next season to think about that.

No.

And he isnt a home town Hero, not even close. If he takes the team to the Rose Bowl and wins this year then he is a home town sports hero. But it isnt likely.

yeah, if we're talking qbs in the 2005 draft i'm thinkin' more along the lines of matt leinhart than andrew walter, though i do think walter could end up pretty good at the next level.

I'm an ASU grad who pushed hard for Suggs. But, Walter? :thumbdown

Not that I can't be wrong, but I don't see him being an NFL starter.

Walter has not proven anything yet. I doubt he will be a number one pick. He will need a great senior year to be drafted in the 1st round.

DG made it clear he would take the BPA Fitz was the BPA. Also DG said he wants to win right away taking a QB in the draft won't let that happen.

Walter has been hirt by injuries which will keep him from being a high oick next year. Regardless the Cards would have to be fools to play what ifs especially Walters vs Eli.. No contesto!

Next years draft is going to have a bunch of boom or bust quarterbacks.

Every draft is filled with boom or bust QBs. Akili and McNown vs. McNab and Culpepper. Leaf vs Peyton.

That is the problem who is boom and who is bust?

Next years prospects are riskier than normal. Chris Rix of FSU is Plummer with 2X the arm. If he ever puts it all together there's no stopping him but he'll follow a jaw dropping play with one equally bone headed. Walter of ASU should be way better than he's shown. Brock Berlin from UM has all the tools to be a top QB but it just doesn't seem to work for him. I know some of the other schools have guys who are great athletes but need a lot of refining at the position.

Doesn't it seem like Chris Rix has been the startin QB at FSU for like 11 years?

Walter has a great arm and a nice touch. Still, it is really hard to say how good he is at this point in his college carreer. Koeter's playcalling baffles me some times. Picture this: third and four, Koeter deploys a multiple receiver set, post routes and their like abound, no quick slant, nobody in the flat= incompletion. Fourth down, same strategy, same result.

Actually, I think that with good protection Walter would be a good fit here. But, I'd rather see Josh succeed and not need a qb in 2005.
