I will bold in red the players that I think would be very good fits for the Cardinals and in what round I think they might be available.

North team

Quarterbacks: BA's pre-requisite: good size, pocket thrower, can drive the ball.

Shane Carden, East Carolina---not a fit
Sean Mannion, Oregon State---not a fit
Bryce Petty, Baylor---not a fit

Running backs: toughness, versatility, acceleration

Ameer Abdullah, Nebraska---not a big RB, but has great feet and accels. Round 3.

David Cobb, Minnesota---would be an excellent lead RB...tough and gritty...great spin move on contact. Round 2.

Jeremy Langford, Michigan State
---was inactive for game, but this guy is a powerful RB who would be a steal in rounds 3-4.

Ty Varga (FB), Yale---this kid is a winner---tough as nails, runs well, good vision. Round 6-7.

Receivers

Nick Boyle (TE), Delaware---pretty good hands and speed

Jamison Crowder, Duke---excellent return man and speed/slot WR with very good hands. Round 3.

Antwan Goodley, Baylor---Made two nice catches---kind of lulls CBs to sleep.

Justin Hardy, East Carolina---they didn't throw to him much, but this kid is an excellent possession WR. Round 4-5

Ben Koyack (TE), Notre Dame---had a nice TD---good feet, hands---athletic. Round 5-6.

Tony Lippett, Michigan State---excellent size, hands.

Vince Mayle, Washington State---made a nice catch, 3rd down conversion.

Ty Montgomery, Stanford---all-purpose WR/KR. Round 5-6.

Casey Pierce (TE), Kent State---solid.

Devin Smith, Ohio State---deep threat, but needs an intermediate game. Round 3-4.

Offensive linemen

Trenton Brown (OT), Florida
T.J. Clemmings (OT), Pittsburgh
Jamil Douglas (OT), Arizona State
Max Garcia (C), Florida
Rob Havenstein (OT), Wisconsin Sturdy, tough RT who could slide down to guard. Round 4-5.
Chris Jasperse (C), Marshall
Ali Marpet (OT), Hobart----small school tough kid---looked good at G. Round 6-7
Donovan Smith (OT), Penn State
Robert Myers (G), Tennessee State
Laken Tomlinson (G), Duke---might be best G in draft. Packs a punch. Round 1-2.

Defensive linemen

Henry Anderson (DE), Stanford
Deion Barnes (DE), Penn State
Carl Davis (DT), Iowa ---hard worker, big body, good motor. Round 1-2.
Marcus Hardison (DE), Arizona State
Hau'oli Kikaha (DE), Washington ---will drop in draft due to smallish size and arm length, but would be a steal as a high motor, situational edge rusher in rounds 4-5.
Nate Orchard (DE), Utah ---has the length the Cardinals like. Not quite as fast as I had hoped, but close. Has good strength and can bull-rush. Rounds 1-2.
Danny Shelton (DT), Washington---big NT in the middle with bounce and very good feet. Round 1-2.
Za'Darius Smith (DE), Kentucky---feisty and active, quick, but not fast. Round 3-4.
Louis Trinca-Pasat (DT), Iowa[/B]---has a good motor, chases well. Round 4-5.

Linebackers

Jordan Hicks (OLB), Texas
Mike Hull (OLB), Penn State
Zack Hodges (OLB), Harvard---very good athlete, could be a steal late. Rounds 5-6.
Jeff Luc (ILB), Cincinnati---downhill hitter. Round 5-6.
Hayes Pullard (ILB), USC

Defensive backs

Adrian Amos (S), Penn State
Ibraheim Campbell (S), Northwestern
Quandre Diggs (CB), Texas---good nickel CB---made a great interception. Round 4-5.
Kurtis Drummond (S), Michigan State
Doran Grant (CB), Ohio State
Steven Nelson (CB), Oregon State ---tenacious and sticky---on the smallish side, though. Round 3-4.
Damarious Randall (S), Arizona State
Quinten Rollins (CB), Miami (Ohio) ---standout convert from basketball to MAC DPOY in one year. Sees the ball and reacts to it like a pro. Round 2-3.
Eric Rowe (CB), Utah
Josh Shaw (CB), USC

South team

Quarterbacks

Bryan Bennett, Southeastern Louisiana
Garrett Grayson, Colorado State
Blake Sims, Alabama

Running backs

Cameron Artis-Payne, Auburn Very good balance, low center of gravity, acceleration. Round 3-4.
Jalston Fowler (FB), Alabama
David Johnson, Northern Iowa Nifty feet for a big RB. Versatile. Rounds 3-4.
Connor Neighbors (FB), LSU

Receivers

Sammie Coates, Auburn
Devante Davis, UNLV
Phillip Dorsett, Miami (Fla.) Speed burner with skills. Rounds 1-2.
Rannell Hall, UCF Excellent hands, catches in a crowd, bood body control. Rounds 4-5.
Josh Harper, Fresno State
Dezmin Lewis, Central Arkansas
Tyler Lockett, Kansas State ---outstanding KR, all-purpose WR who even made a key block on a TD run. Round 2-3.
Donatella Luckett, Harding
Devin Mahina (TE), BYU
C.J. Uzomah (TE), Auburn
Clive Walford (TE), Miami (Fla.)---might be the most talented TE in draft. Good size, power and athleticism. Round 2-3.

Offensive linemen
La'el Collins (OT), LSU Powerful drive blocker---could excel at G or perhaps RT. Round 1-2.
Dillon Day (C), Mississippi State---very good anchor, smart. Round 4-5.
Reese Dismukes (C), Auburn---under-rated, could be a steal. Round 4-5.
Tayo Fabuluje (OT), TCU
Tre' Jackson (G), Florida State Can maul or finesse. Round 2-3.
Arie Kouandjio (G), Alabama Back trouble will worry some---but this kid is big and powerful. Round 2.
Shaq Mason (G), Georgia Tech I bet Steve Keim likes this kid a lot. Tenacious and tough. Round 3-4.
Ty Sambrailo (OT), Colorado State
Austin Shepherd (OT), Alabama
Daryl Williams (OT), Oklahoma

Defensive linemen

Kaleb Eulls (DT), Mississippi State
Trey Flowers (DE), Arkansas
Markus Golden (DE), Missouri Didn't stand out, but has good ability. Should slide some. Round 3-4.
Grady Jarrett (DT), Clemson
Joey Mbu (DT), Houston
Owamagbe Odighizuwa (DE), UCLA Inactive---but is a physical dynamo. Rounds 2-3.
Preston Smith (DE), Mississippi State Not flashy, but productive and highly competitive. Rounds 4-5.
Gabe Wright (DT), Auburn---if the light goes on, watch out. Rounds 3-4.

Linebackers
Stephone Anthony (ILB), Clemson Excellent range, cover ability. Round 2.
Geneo Grissom (OLB), Oklahoma
Armarlo Herrera (ILB), Georgia
Lorenzo Mauldin (OLB), Louisville Has some Dansby-esque qualities. Round 3-4.
Denzel Perryman (ILB), Miami (Fla.)---inactive, but quite possibly the most talented ILB in the draft. Rounds 1-2.
Martrell Spaight (OLB), Arkansas
Lynden Trail (OLB), Norfolk State Small-school dynamo---with size and bang. Round 3-4.

Defensive backs

Imoan Claiborne (CB), Northwestern State
Clayton Geathers (S), UCF
Senquez Golson (CB), Ole Miss
Ladarius Gunter (CB), Miami (Fla.) Smooth, gets his hands on a lot of passes. Round 3-4.
Anthony Jefferson (S), UCLA
Cody Prewitt (S), Ole Miss
JaCorey Shepherd (CB), Kansas
Nick Marshall (CB), Auburn
D'Joun Smith (CB), Florida Atlantic
Jaquiski Tartt (S), Samford Big hitter. Round 4-5.
Kevin White (CB), TCU Great feet and technique. Nickel CB who could play on the edge as well. Round 2.

Would really like the Cards to get RB Cobb. He would go well with Ellington.
Mitch, surprised you don't see either QBs Petty or Mannion as a fit for the Cards. They both have strong arms and can make all the pro throws. IMO either would be, by far, better than Logan Thomas.

Cobb would be a very good addition, I agree.

Petty doesn't strike me as a BA type of QB. Yes, he's got a good arm, but he doesn't drive the ball as well as needed in BA's offense. Mannion has such a slow trigger. I don't think he will get drafted until very late in the draft.

The QB who flashed a live arm and exciting mobility was Alabama's Blake Sims. He only had one year's experience, but man, he has talent.

if keim really wanted to draft wilson i think he should like sims too
i was really impressed about his agiility yesterday and he has the arm to make all the throws.

I was very impressed, Juza---especially his spin moves at the precise times to avoid pressure and break contain. Sims has an NFL body---he looked like a man amongst boys in that QB group. Mechanically, he needs to set his feet better and to straighten out his delivery---his arm angle tends to sag a little, especially under pressure.

It's impressive that he won the QB job at Bama this year over FSU transfer Jacob Coker. The NFL Newtork crew was saying how impressed Nick Saban and the players were with Sims' leadership and take charge attitude.

Sims' stats this year:

Passing: 252/391 64.5% 8.92 YPA 28 TDs 10 int 13 sacks 157.9 RAT

Rushing: 83/350 4.2 ave 7 TDs

Plus look at the chemistry he had with Amari Cooper: 124/1,727/13.9/16 TDs...who was often double teamed.

I'll give my responses to the Big 10 players you highlighted:
Abdullah- don't think he's a fit.

Cobb- he'd be a nice compliment to Ellington.

Langford- I think he's too slow but I also thought that about Leveon Bell and we see how he turned out.

Devin Smith- you're right about him needing to refine his underneath routes but no way he lasts to round 3-4. Mid 2nd may be low.

Havenstein- sorry but Rob Havenstein is garbage. Too big and unathletic. He'll get destroyed by NFL DL.

Carl Davis- He'd be an excellent replacement if the Cards lose Williams. He's kind of a punk with an attitude problem though.

Some other guys with Ohio ties:

Jordan Hicks- he has all the talent in the world but fought injuries at Texas. He could be a real sleeper.

Jeff Luc- Florida transfer passes the looks test but he's very limited athletically, at least on the football field. Very stiff.

Curtis Grant- he was a late replacement but you could put him and Luc in the same group. They were both highly touted entering college but didn't produce.

Quentin Rollins- he'd be an excellent later round pick.

Doran Grant- as long as they don't take him too early, he'd be a nice pick. 3rd round at the earliest.

Cobb is a good RB but would rather see Langford from MSU. He has that extra gear Cobb doesn't imho.

Cbus, I thought I heard announcers say Langford was one of the fastest Spartans? sub 4.5? I know he looked fast enough destoying my Illini, not that its saying much.

He'd be a LE in the 3-4. What gives??

Nice write up WM.

I've always seen him as a NT. His size was 6'4 321 at the Senior Bowl and here is the write up from Walterfootball:
Iowa_logo.gif
Carl Davis, NT, Iowa
Height: 6-5. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 5.24.
Projected Round (2015): 3-4.

12/13/14: Davis has 34 tackles with nine tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a pass broken up thus far in 2014. He is a strong run-defender at the point off attack and is tough to move at the line of scrimmage. Davis is reliable to fill his gap, but he isn't consistently explosive or fast to make plays in the backfield or pressure the quarterback. He looks like a run-stuffing nose tackle for the NFL.

from CBS:
DT Carl Davis, Iowa (6-5, 321)
After playing mostly a one-technique role for the Hawkeyes.....

I've seen him listed as running in the high 4.5's. I never thought of him as having much speed and as more of a power, bull-dozing type RB. But, like I mentioned, I thought the same of Bell(he ran 4.6 at the combine) then slimmed down and is as good as any RB in the league with speed not being an issue.

These are some of the players that caught my eye - not sure about fits.

QB: Blake Sims - Alabama - Obvious that he has very good movement skills out of the pocket. That alone would help at the beginning of his career here. He'd be worth a look late in the draft. Not that impressed with his sideline throws, but he'd be a work in progress. Rd. 6-7

QB: Shane Carden - East Carolina - 86 career TD's. That ain't garbage. He'd be worth a shot late in the draft. Can sling the ball with some accuracy. Obviously good in Red Zone. Rd 6-7

RB: Ameer Abdullah - Nebraska- MVP of the game. Great moves, speed, acceleration and vision. Can catch well. But they talked about his small hands being his only negative (could put ball on ground some). Rd. 2-3

RB: David Cobb - Minnesota - talked about him before the game and he didn't disappoint. He'd be an obvious fit as a starter here. Makes people miss, but also has power, cuts and decent vision. Only question is top end speed, but has some tree trunks down low. Rd. 2 (late)-3 (early).

RB: David Johnson - N. Iowa - this is why you watch this game, to see guys like him perform the way he did against better competition. Big, has moves, pretty good vision and can catch and block well. Seems to pick up the routes well. Rd. 4

RB: Cameron Artis-Payne - Auburn - SEC player so you expect more, he delivered. Bit smallish with great vision-balance. Rd. 3-4.

FB/ST's: Ty Varga - Yale - This kid got his name up in lights here. He'll get drafted earlier than expected, mtl. Wiz was gushing on the sidelines. Rd. 5

WR: Vince Mayle - Washington St. - He made himself some money here. Only question is what he runs in the 40. Everything else he's got. Great route runner, tough, very good hands, great cuts. 6' 2" 220. Rd. 2

WR: Renell Hall - UCF - Talk about sticky hands, they were on display here. Locates the ball and goes after it. Rd. 4-5

WR/KR: Tyler Lockett - KSt. - Has very good all around game and returner. Knew about him coming in. Rd 3-4

WR/KR: Marcus Murphy - Mizzou - Pretty dynamic returner. Rd. 6-7

WR/ST's: Donatella Luckett - Harding - Good special teamer who would go on PS 1st yr., mtl., has good size. Jauron Brown type project. Rd. 7

LT: Donovan Smith - PSU - really liked his game, pass pro was impressive on the edge. Good feet, moves very well and strong at POA. Rd. 2-3

G: Laken Tomlinson - Duke - Pretty impressive, physical. Rd 2-3

G/C: Shaq Mason - Ga. Tch. - Physical with good hands, short arms. Be a good project. Rd. 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

DE: Preston Smith - Miss. St. - Thought that he played consistently well. Makes plays, is around the ball a lot. Looks like more of a 4-3 DE. Rd. 2-3

3/4DE: Carl Davis - Iowa - He's a load to handle. This years Aaron Donald. Was voted MVP of the practice week. Rd. 1-2

OLB: Nate Orchid - Utah - I thought he was handled overall, but he flashes skills you can't teach. Rd late 1.

OLB: Hau'oli Kikaha - Washington - Quick and active, can bring the heat, although kind of short, but effective. These guys get drafted early. Rd. 2-3

OLB: Lorenzo Mauldin - Louisville - Very active AND covers well downfield. I liked him a lot. Moves very, very well. Rd. 3

OLB: Za'Darius Smith (DE) - Kentucky - more of what we have already in Okafor. None the less good tackler and team leader. Could surprise. Rd. 4

CB: Quinton Rollins - Miami OH - Small schooler who has little experience but shows obvious ball skills and looks to locate the ball. Quick and tall 6'1" 200
Rd 3

CB: Demarius Randle - ASU - Unfortunately, Had an INT drop right through him, but he's aggressive and will make the opposition work for it. Rd. 4

CB: Kevin White - TCU - Made a nice grab for INT got up and had a nice run back. Good awareness/ coverage skills. Rd. 3

CB: Stephen Nelson (mighty mouse) - Oreg. St. - As name implies, he's short about 5' 9". That's his only negative. Competes intensely with ball skills. Slot cover corner, Quicker than Mathieu. Rd. 4-5

CB:Ladarius Gunter - Miami (Fla.) Smooth, gets his hands on a lot of passes. Round 3-4. I agree with Mitch's assessment. Just wanted to see more. He doesn't always locate the ball. He had a great week of practice. Rd. 3

S/ST's: Adrian Amos - Penn State - Just played smart and made plays. Rd. 5-7

S/ST's: Jaquiski Tartt (S), Samford- another div II player who impressed with his tackling Rd. 5-7

There were more, but these guys stood out in this particular game to me.

I like the S from Ole Miss Cody Prewitt but he didn't stand out in this game.

Last I saw was draftcountdown has his speed as 4.45.

Rumor is Carl Davis has major personality issues. No Thx. Specifically hes lazy. Other than drugs, lazy is one of the worst titles you can attach to a player.

My issue in this draft is all my fav guys are 2nd rounders. At this point, id be all for trading out of the 1st round completely, and stealing an extra 2nd and a 3rd.

mmmmmmm. maybe

2 fav pass rushers right now (besides Vic B) are Orchard and Owazemontenegro. When I try to forcast picks, I just dont see either in the 1st. I think both are strong early 2s.

So maybe a team picking top 10 will want to jump back in the end of the 1st round. Take the 4th-5th pick in the 2nd + their early pick in the 3rd.

Thatd open some doors. We could get a bunch of my guys. This is an extremely deep rounds 2-4 draft.

Gil Brandt hung the lazy tag on Donovan Smith. But it read as more of Smith not finishing his blocks. Smith went into Mobile with a 4-6 round grade, be interesting to see where he goes in the draft as he is projected to be a left tackle.

Another guy projected to the left side, Texas A&M tackle Cedric Ogbuehi tore his ACL in the Liberty Bowl. He had an up and down season, but still had a first round grade prior to the injury.

His situation kind of reminds me of James Hurst last year. Hurst wasn't a 1st round talent but he was still very good and a lot of us liked him. He broke his leg in a bowl game and went undrafted. The Ravens signed him as an UDFA and looks like they got an absolute steal.

Ogbuehi won't go undrafted but he'd be a steal if he's still sitting there in round 3 or 4.

From Walterfootball.com draft site:
Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M

Projected Round (2015): 2-3.
1/17/15: A torn ACL in his bowl game against West Virginia was a huge blow to Ogbuehi's draft stock. He was a mid first-rounder before the injury. Sources say they feel that Ogbuehi's range will now be the middle of the second round to the top portion of the third round. They still view him as a 10-year starter at left tackle in the NFL.

Should Cards take a chance on him if he is there when they pick in the 2nd Round?

I say no.Cards are locked up at LT for a few years. After the pundits on this board ripped our 2nd rd pick last year (Niklas) as being a non-factor dues to injuries etc; why would you draft a guy who probably won`t be able to play this season. That is the kind of pick a team with less needs than the Cards can afford to make. The Cards are getting there but not just yet.

If Laken Tomlinson slips to the 3rd round and we don't take him, we would be foolish. I wouldn't mind taking him in the 2nd. He's one of those "small program" lineman who will have a long, productive career in the NFL.

If we could grab WR Lockette and RB David Johnson in the mid rounds I would be ecstatic. Although he is undersized he can make catches in traffic as seen with that amazing catch during the game. He is an excellent route runner also. the best part is that he would be plugged right in as a returner.

Johnson is an impressive athlete at 6.2 over 220 lbs. He claims to run in low 4.4's and have over a 40 inch verticle. He is a high character guy with good work ethic. His best asset is his receiving. Is able to run routes like a WR. Against his toughest oppenent this yr he had over 200 receiving against Iowa.

You'd have to use a 3rd on either, imo right now. If one slipped to the last part of the 4th then yea it would be a terrific pick, for either.

Personally, I believe they'll wait no longer than the 3rd to take their guy. Even in a deep RB pool you want your guy, cause he'll mtl start very early.
