To be fair, the Senior Bowl is like the Pro Bowl. Its hardly representative of guys talents.

Half the dudes on the field were going 1/2 speed because they didnt want to get injured, and the other half were going 110% trying to make a good impression.

If you want to see how these guys look in game, go watch individual game tape from Washington, SD State, Oklahoma, etc.

Ive watched Massie already. Hes good, not great. Hes an upgrade at RT, but people shouldnt expect a pro bowler. Hes a little slow and it looks like speed rushers can get the corner on him. He does well vs power rushers.

No player is going to accept an invitation to the Senior Bowl and risk being downgraded for loafing with every team there to watch.

I agree. Even the NFL teams say that it is the practices they are more interested in than the actual game. I think I've read that most of the scouts etc. don't even stay to watch the game.

My real quick thoughts on these guys:

Fleming - Didn't know of him prior to draft which is odd because he was starting CB at OU and defensive MVP of their bowl game. Looks like a solid pick.

Kelemete - Looks like a steal. Will play G but looks like eventually could play OT if he gets stronger. Mr Versatile.

Lindley - I understand the pick as Kolb could be out after this year if he doesn't lock up QB job. My fear is that he becomes DA II, strong arm but very inaccurate (around 55% for his career).

That's the thing about the actual game; no one from any team is really there to watch. Pretty much everyone leaves town after Friday's practice. The rules for the game are such that it's as useless for scouting purposes as the Pro Bowl is.

The game is nice for quick-twitch athleticism and such, but the workouts leading up to the game is where the real scouting takes place.

I disagree, face time is face time.

Von Miller was at the 2011 Senior bowl. Was there any question he was going in the top 10? Along with every top Olinemen: Castanzo, Carimi, Solder and Carpenter.

Usually the top guys dont go because they dont want to be injured, however, clearly, alot still do. Why? Because its additional time in front of the coaches in a controlled combine-like atmosphere.

So when a 3rd round DE prospect blows by a half-assing 1st round LT in game or in practice, you dont think that affects draft boards?

Have you ever halfassed a job interview, I haven't, I don't think they do either. Now during the game it may look like that, but your dealing with kids trying to learn a system in 5 days. We can look at the Cards roster and see guys that have taken years to figure things out and their being asked to do it in such a small time frame, I'm sure some will look like they are playing at half speed because they are thinking the game not playing it. IMO the 1-1 drills/with game tape are where guys get the grades not the game itself.

The only exception is with the offensive linemen. Most scouts will say they are as interested in seeing how a linemen blocks in a line over 1 on 1 drills. Some guys just work better in a unit than on their own.

Kelemete may look better than Massie on tape, but he has 2 tougher guys to beat out in Colledge or Snyder than Massie does with Bridges or even Levi.

& in case you're considering Kelemete as an OT - I think he looks as good as he does more as a guard than as a tackle (i.e. pulls well & drive blocks with a low pad level but (though he is able to square up with outside rushers) looks like he can be outquicked and overpowered by elite pro rushers.

I am okay with all our picks, but still and always will question Floyd instead of Ingram with our 13th pick. I think we took the S.D. St QB, not due to lack of faith in Skelton, but rather not being sure if Kolb will ever be able to withstand many more hits. If he can't, we will need a young backup to Skelton.

And lastly, keep in mind that until we see these guys in the shower, we won't be sure what they really have to offer us.

Not remotely the same. Nowhere close.

The difference is because the job interview had begun before the players and coaches ever met. It was the yards the RBs racked up or the TDs the QBs threw. The sacks, etc. week after week until the Senior bowl where the draft boards are already leaning in one direction.

If Andrew Luck had gone to the 2012 senior bowl, would that be a job interview? Heck no. He could have gone and thrown 5 picks and still went #1.

Decisions have already been made by the time the senior bowl rolls around for the top guys. The Sr. Bowl is for the fray guys, 3rd round+ to get into the conversation.

and thats my point. 1st round guys can half ass because it means nothing. They already have the job. Late round guys will be working very hard and might upstage one of these fellas.

What guys look like in the shower is, frankly, not an important consideration for me. In fact, never gave it any thought. ;)
