I've been watching it off and on today - I love the show.

Can't understand why it got dropped after only 11 eps.

I think I'll see the movie just based on what I've seen today (Sci-Fi marathon).

Now you know why there is a movie coming out...fans were outraged that Fox cancelled it...Fox sucks when it comes to giving new shows a chance sometimes.

They had it on a Friday night too...should have given it a shot.

Glad you like it...

I understand the motivation for the movie, but why wasn't the show picked up/moved to Sci-Fi or something. That's happened with other shows. Didn't Buffy finish its run on another network?

Buffy started on WB and then went into reruns on TNT.

Firefly was given a bad timeslot from the very beginning. It just floundered and died in the ratings. As a result, it was cancelled but enough fans wrote letters praising it and demanding its return that the studio relented into letting Joss Whedon do a screenplay. He certainly had the time after Buffy & Angel finally wrapped.

I look forward to this as a legit film which could have sequels that will not rely Lucas or Roddenberry for a franchise. Although, I have the feeling that if the film does really well ... it will become a series again. Joss Whedon made a point of bringing back the exact cast that was in the TV show. It has so much hype there is already a RPG out for it.

Not exactly true.

Buffy started on WB for 5 years, then for years 6 and 7, it moved to UPN. Upon the end of the show, that's when it moved into syndication -- on FX.

Advance screening of Serenity is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7pm at Fashion Square. Anyone who wants to see it might be able to show up and get a pass from someone in line, or those in charge. We saw The Greatest Game Ever tonight and it was one of the longest lines I've ever seen - not only did we all fit into the theater, they were walking around with movie passes, making sure everyone in line had one and giving them out to those who did not.

I may be a homer, because I loved the series and all the characters...but

I give it a 10 :)

I loved it...I laughed, I got choked up...it had everything.

I really hope some of you have watched the series first so you can get some of the inside stuff.

I justed watched 1x01-08 and am starting 1x09 now. Most likely I'll be finished tomorrow in time to catch a matinee of the movie.

I don't know quite what to compare this show to, but I am really liking it.

I never saw the show, but wow, the movie was great. Really, really well-written, IMO.

I loved the whole "western/sci-fi" thing going on.

So glad you liked it...I need to go see it again :)

One of my favorite moments...I think this is the right quote:

"I am a leaf on the wind..."

The results of that scene made we well up with tears of course...but it was a great moment...

I can't believe this movie has only made $25 million over the last 2 1/2 weeks!!!

It must not be in that many theaters.

My wife and I went Saturday night and the theater was 3/4 full.

I just think most people don't see anyone they recognize in it...and think it probably sucks...I dunno.

I have started watching the show now.

I really like it and I have hooked a few others.

I am disappointed that the movie hasn't done more business.

They should have just named the movie Firefly. Serenity is a weak title for a sci-fi film.

Serenity sounds like some sort of chick flick/coming-of-age movie.

To those who have seen it - does it pick up where the series left off or start all over (restart as if we've never met the characters, etc)...

Basically picks up awhile after the show ends...not sure how long, but a few of the passengers from the show aren't on the ship at the start of the movie.

Sci-Fi is doing a Marathon today of Firefly episodes...

In case anyone else is curious they are playing
12:00 PM SERENITY - PT 1
01:00 PM FIREFLY SERENITY - PT 2
02:00 PM FIREFLY THE TRAIN JOB
03:00 PM FIREFLY BUSHWHACKED
04:00 PM FIREFLY SHINDIG
05:00 PM FIREFLY SAFE
06:00 PM FIREFLY OUR MRS. REYNOLDS
07:00 PM FIREFLY JAYNESTOWN
08:00 PM FIREFLY OUT OF GAS
09:00 PM FIREFLY ARIEL

Not sure if the times are EST or not...and there is supposed to be a Serenity special on afterwards.

Mike
Are these episodes in order? In other words, is "Serenity pt1" the Firefly pilot?

I want to start Tivoing the show (it seems to be on randomly on SciFi), but I want to start watching from the start.

This is what Sci-Fi says about the list Mike provided:

The channel will air the episodes in their intended order, beginning with Whedon's pilot. (Fox, by contrast, began with the show's third produced hour, "The Train Job," and aired the two-hour pilot at the end of the show's abortive first season.) SCI FI acquired exclusive rights to the show from 20th Century Television, which produced the show for the Fox Broadcasting Co.

There were three episodes not shown during its run also, so that list isn't complete. I'm looking for the DVD specs because I've heard that it's all in the intended order, missing eps included.

I would actually recommend just going out and buying the DVD set...it's in widescreen, and has 3 unaired episodes on it...they are all good.
