I really thought he was the spark that ignited the big scoring run today. Just what this team needed. A big scoring day! Hopefully we'll start swinging with less pressure to produce now for awhile. Which is the best way to hit. In a team groove.

I know there were people on this board who did not like the trade but I liked it. Sexson brings the power this team was missing. Now that Jerry made a killing with the sale of the Suns hopefully he will re-sign Sexson before the year is over.

Isn't the rule that when a batter hits himself with a batted ball in the batter's box, it's a foul ball?

And if part of him is in fair territory, it's an out?

I guess when you hit yourself on the Jumbotron 503 feet away, it's the longest HR in the history of the BOB.

Wow. That was something to see.

Maybe the homeruns are blinding me it but it even seems like he is striking out less too of late. He is definitely getting on base more than the beginning of the year. It could be a while until Gonzo sees another intentional pass.

Yes, I love his home runs, but I also want to see his average closer to .300 and to .250. He needs to get on base with singles and doubles, not just homers.

He is looking good right now, but so is our entire offense.

How about Danny! 18 game hitting streak, who would have thought.

As an everyday player he has never got to a .300,.280 would be more realistic if you go by his stats over his career.

1997 Cleveland Indians .273 AB- 11
1998 Cleveland Indians .310 AB- 174
1999 Cleveland Indians .255 AB- 479
2000 Cleveland Indians .256 AB- 324
2000 Milwaukee Brewers .296 AB- 213
2001 Milwaukee Brewers .271 AB- 598
2002 Milwaukee Brewers .279 AB- 570
2003 Milwaukee Brewers .272 AB- 606
2004 Arizona Diamondbacks .253 AB- 75

He has said that he is working to be more than a power hitter and he proved it by the two singles last night

I want to see him get on base more too. His average has been steadily climbing as has his OB% but he is still middle of the pack compared with other NL 1st basemen. It's still early though...hopefully those numbers will catch up with his power numbers, which are second to none in both leagues.

I agree. BA isn't that important for him. Run production is. I'd like to see 120 RBI's from him. The BA will follow suit.

Having Kata and Cintron set the table at 1-2 in the batting order has put a spark into the rest of the lineup, as your first two hitters should. Just a short while ago, Danny was the only one producing consistent results.

I just hope that BB doesn't follow through on his plan to put Finley back at leadoff when he gets hot. Or put Alomar back at 2nd. We were a last place team with that allignment.

Kata/Cintron/Gonzo/Sexson/Finley/Bautista/Tracy, as 1 through 7, is moving us to the top. And taking alot of pressure off our pitching staff, too.

Here ya go. Could be worse. DeVore up instead of Terrero or a reliever...? And Keoni DeRenne moved from Lancaster straight to Tucson for some reason - he's a SS - fairly fast, he had an early hot streak but now around .250 - good BB/SO. He'll be a utility infielder they said.
Sexson MRI reveals subluxation in left shoulder
Diamondbacks Press Release
April 29, 2004

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks announced that the magnetic resonance imaging revealed that first baseman Richie Sexson incurred a subluxation of his left shoulder as well as a bruised humeral head.

The injury occurred on Wednesday night when he attempted to check his swing in an eighth inning at bat against LaTroy Hawkins.

The Diamondbacks will place Sexson on the 15-day disabled list, effective today, and in a corresponding move have purchased the contract of outfielder Doug DeVore from their Tucson affiliate (AAA).

"Richie made it very obvious to all of us that he wants to return to the field as soon as possible" said Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President and General Manager.

"This is an unusual injury in that the bruise is in the back of the humerus, thus it may be an injury that we can treat and hopefully get him back on the field in a timely manner," said Dr. Michael Lee, Head Team Physician. "As is the case with the majority of our injuries, I will not place a timetable on Richie's return. He will begin rehabilitating the injury immediately with our training staff, who will closely monitor his progress, and we will have a much better idea of a possible return date once the initial pain from the injury decreases."

Sexson had the following statement on the injury:

"I'm obviously disappointed, but I'm also equally determined to do whatever it takes to get back in the lineup as soon as possible. I have grown accustomed over the years to seeing my name in the lineup everyday and being sidelined isn't something I'm used to. I will not let this deter me from returning and having a productive season

If that is the diagnosis, then it is better than what I expected. I was figuring he would be back after the All-Star game.

I'm somewhat surprised as well about promoting DeVore, however, it's logical in the sense that he'll come in for being a late inning defensive replacement for Gonzalez.... And I bet their reasoning of not recalling Terrero was that he wouldn't play everyday with the Dbacks, so they kept him in Tucson for that specific reason....

Hopefully Hillenbrand will have a brilliant run while Sexton is out so his trade value will raise.

Sexson actually had a partially dislocated shoulder, and a partially torn labrum.

I thought it looks like a dislocated shoulder issue the way he was holding it afterwards, because I've done that three times.

Anyways, I just had surgery to repair my labrum, which was about torn in half.

If his is partially torn, that means it can come out of it's socket again easier than before. So even if he's back in 6 weeks, I am not sure he will be hitting with as much strength as he was before, because it could come partially out again.

And I think he'll have surgery in the offseason, to repair that thing, and at least for me, I have a 6 month recovery before I can play sports again at a high level.

Not sure if pro athletes have a different rehab, and can get back faster, but we'll see.

Anyone think the DBacks will make a trade?

Or will the move Shea to 1st.

Loosing Sexson for 2+ weeks is a huge blow to the team.

4-6 weeks.

Bickley was talking about Gonzo to first, which would help his elbow problems. I'm down with that.

Same here. Then who plays left though? Tracy? Then Shea at third? Or Terrero. I'd love to see him come up.

Found this info on Sexson.

An MRI has revealed that Sexson has a partially dislocated left shoulder, partial tear in his left labrum and a bruise at the top of his humerus bone, injuries suffered when he checked his swing in the eighth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Diamondbacks have placed the first baseman on the 15-day disabled list and do not have a specific timetable for his return. Sexson might need surgery after the season, according to team doctor Michael Lee
