I don't get this one. If they sign Telfair, why bother with Brown?

Because we need a 2 guard. I'm actually salivating at the idea of the alley oop potential between he and Nash.

Really hope it means we're trading Nash...

Wojnarowski:
Shannon Brown is nearing a one year, $3.5M deal with the Phoenix Suns, league source tells Y! Sports.

Overpay much? I guess with a one-year deal it won't matter in the long run, but Brown never made this much money in a single season in his career. Btw, this is more than what Hill made last year, so I hope the Suns offer to Hill was better than that.

Coro:
The Suns will sign guard Shannon Brown to a one-year, $3.5M contract, as @WojYahooNBA has reported. He will join the Suns tomorrow.
So it is official.

Telfair and Brown for 1 year deals are the right roster fillers until 2012 to have massive capspace.

I don't think we have to worry about the Suns being among the league leaders in offensive efficiency anymore. Good lord.

Grant Hill to New York, Steve Nash wherever, amnesty Childress and trade Warrick for expiring and here we come #1 pick in 2012 and massive capspace.

Right on plan.

Totally agree, a rare moment when we both are on same page. However I don't know if we should waste the amnesty on Childress and not many free agents are dying to come here anyway?

FAs go where they can make the most money.

And I don't think all these restricted FAs will be matched if the Suns overpay a little.

Would OKC really match a max or near max offer for Westbrook?

Would OKC really match a big offer for Ibaka?

why? do you want Grant Hill and Nash back on this team to continue to be atrociously mediocre?
I don't want this ownership group lowballing its most loyal players. That is not going to help them win any favors with player agents in future pursuits of free agents. The Suns have stated that Hill was their number one free agent priority, so if you are going to offer 3.5M to Brown, you better offer more than that to your starting SF and best defensive player.

What I actually want to see happen has no bearing on this, but I think they are definitely going to keep Nash to start this season so what's the point of speculating otherwise?

I love Shannon Brown, crazy fun to watch. We are going to suck anyway, might as well watch this guy dunk for a year!

Grant is 39?.. The bigger issue is probably that Hill wants 2 years.

Can't argue with that at all.

 Brown shot 49% from the field and 47% from 3 last year. That's pretty damn efficient for a 2 guard. I'm sure his percentages will fall without Kobe and Pau drawing doubles, but those are great numbers.

The signing of Telfair and Brown appear to be in-line with the Suns new scouting focus on current NBA players. Telfair has been in the league for 7 seasons, but is only 26, the same age as Gortat. Brown is also 26. Both players had solid seasons last year and shoud be entering their NBA prime. The Brown signing in particular intrigues me because of his athleticism, and he may be poised for a breakout season is he can get out of Kobe's shadow.

And these 1 year deals are low risk, high reward. In fact, the only risk is that they have a break-out year and we can't re-sign them.

I think Brown could excel in the run and gun system. Although that is toned down now, Brown made a good decision to get more playing time here. And now we don't have to see him come burn the Suns off the Laker bench either. Win-Win

Any ex Laker players will help.

Only if their names are Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum.

Shannon Brown?? Really?? Sebastian Telfair?? Really??

There had better be solid confidence about high end acquisitions for next offseason with the projected cap space and a potential lottery pick.

I don't know where you got your numbers from, but he shot 42% from the field and 35% from 3pt range, consistent with his career numbers (42% and 34%).

Although slin, cheesebeef and others will be disappointed, I think it's pretty consistent with the Suns' idea of sticking with Nash one more year. They're trying to reach their goal of improving the team (even if it's slightly) without messing with their 2012 cap space. Don't see how that means the Suns are dealing Nash.

Why are people complaining about one year deals? It's 66 games folks. Better to have a one year deal than a super long and useless contract.
