I don't want this ownership group lowballing its most loyal players. That is not going to help them win any favors with player agents in future pursuits of free agents. The Suns have stated that Hill was their number one free agent priority, so if you are going to offer 3.5M to Brown, you better offer more than that to your starting SF and best defensive player.

What I actually want to see happen has no bearing on this, but I think they are definitely going to keep Nash to start this season so what's the point of speculating otherwise?

I've heard banter that the Suns are offering Grant Hill 5M+ for a one year contract. It would make sense if the Suns are looking to 2012. Also it could be like Stoudemire where the Suns give him their best offer and another team gives him a better contract and for more years.

That's what I suggested in the Hill thread. If, say, the Spurs are offering a 2-year $7M contract, why not offer a one-year $5.5M contract and then Hill could re-sign next year for the minimum (about $1.5M) and still get paid the same if not more. I doubt Hill really wants to go play in San Antonio. He's been working out with the Suns the whole week, including today. And this way the Suns would retain all their cap space for next summer.

Finally an exciting player on the Suns since Marion and Amare left!!

I hope he starts at the 2-guard or plays backup 2 guard but I definitely don't want him being backup PG.

Shannon Brown is a great run/jump athlete, that should be good a defender for the Suns. He's closer to Barbosa (with jumping ability) talent, than Marion and Stoudemire though.

I like the deal, BTW. Arron Afflalo and Shannon Brown were probably my 2 favorite choices for the SG position in FA.

How is he as a defender. Looks like he is a slasher who will benefit from Nash immensely. Good career move, spend a year with Nash in a likely starting position.

Where the Suns are right now, there is great merit in adding youth and athleticism. Time to start stockpiling the best young talent you can find, even if it is not top tier. This would probably include keeping Lopez.

This is the Suns future. Adding some more draft picks for 2012 should be a part of this plan. The Suns need to sign young players on their way up and maybe land a quality FA or two that has a lot of upside. The Thunder appears to be a good model.

I love Grant Hill, but he does not fit into this plan. They should let him go, unless they plan to use him more as a coach and mentor. But his minutes on the court stunt the development of other players.

Sadly, I agree about Grant Hill. Also if the Suns could get something of value for Nash (for the future), I would do this too. Why not start preparing for 2012 now in a shortened season.

Nash to the Lakers for Gasol. The relationship is now really strained between Gasol and the Lakers.

The Suns then could use Gasol in getting a good piece or picks from someone else.

If Brown blossoms I wouldn't mind keeping him provided there are not better players available.
