I think this guys fits the scenario if the Cards are truely set about not taking a QB. King accepts his place as a backup and the Bucs already have Simms to groom. Another guy found in this draft and not FA that seems to start getting attention is Rivers. The sporting news ran a good article on him this month. Could he be had in the second round?

I don't think Rivers will last until the 2nd round. I think he would be a consideration should the Cardinals trade down in the draft. Can Shaun King play? I have not seen him do anything positive in two years.

I'll take Rivers over King. If Gruden bypass him then it means something. Rivers is up there with Ben and Eli in this draft. Just ask Krang!!!

I think Rivers secured his spot in the first round with his play at the senior bowl. I have also not seen anything of King to give much of an opinion one way or the other.

Shaun King was very popular on this board for awhile as a possible replacement to Plummer last year. Then he came out and had an absolutely attrocious game in his only appearence the year before last, effectively quashing any support for bringing him in.

Personally I would prefer a backup with more live experience to help Josh and the rookie. ;)

King was a starter for a full year between Dilfer and Johnson. The thing to keep in mind if we bring in King is that he can come in and play lights out for a few games but isn't very good as a full time starter. If Josh were hurt and Shaun started a few games he very possibly could look like an all star and everyone would be clamoring for him to be the starter. He would be an excellent backup as long as everyone (including both him and the coaches) realise that's what he's best at. He's footballs equivalent of the sixth man.

Did you actually see Shaun King play??? There is a reason he hasn't seen the field in 3 years.

For the last 12 years all I ever got to see were Bucs games.

Shaun King=Jake Plummer

Good athlete, capable of making plays that make you say, "wow, this guy is great." and on the next play throws at the recievers feet or 10 feet over his head.

He is the only QB ever drafted by Tony Dungy. He has a way of making people think he's better than he is.

My point was that he can fill in for a few games at a time and is capable of looking very good but don't think he can be the #1. That's what happened with Tampa Bay and he was their QB when Dilfer won a Superbowl with Baltimore.

I'd rather see Parsons get a chance.

If my choice is King or Rivers in round 2, I am going to take Rivers every single time. I have no idea what the infatuation with King is. Rivers, IMO, will make someone a solid starter and will have a career Shaun King can only dream about.

I would be shocked if King came here. He is an atrocious player.

Why not Ben or Eli in round two? All three QBs will be long gone by the start of the second.

Phillip River will in no way make it out of Round one. He's like number nine or 10 on Kiper's Big Board right now. He'll probably be picked in the Top 20.

I was thinking about King as a backup over the weekend. I kind of like it. All Shaun King did was lead the Bucs to the NFC Championship game (and fell short due to a questionable penalty in the fourth quarter versus the Rams) and the highest season point total in the franchise's history at the time. I was really mad when they replaced him with Brad Johnson, but it worked out okay for the Bucs.

I think that King just isn't quite smart enough to run Gruden's system, and that's part of the problem of why he looks so pedestrian now in Tampa. I think that in Green's QB-friendly system, he could really make a solid backup. He could probably also be had for the veteran minimum and a five-digit signing bonus.

I would take Philip Rivers at that #3 spot. He's going to be that good. He's got a 71% completion rate for crying out loud. That's Joe Montana territory. In fact, Montana never quite reached 70% in his best 2 years.

I like Rivers as much as anybody, but I'm not sure if he's a guaranteed stud which is what you look for with a top five pick.

You have to remember that he basically played in Norm Chow's offense, which helped average to below average players at BYU look like hall of famers.

If you want Rivers, trade down, he'll be available later and we could stockpile picks.
