In the leadup to the NFL draft, few, if any, defensive players have seen their stock rise as high as Texas A&M football's Shemar Stewart.
The weekend's draft festivities kick off Thursday night in Green Bay, Wis., and Stewart is expected to hear his name called on the first night following an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl and scouting combine.
Stewart didn't do much during A&M's pro day because he didn't have to. He had solidified his stance amongst the draft's best prospects earlier in the process.

Stewart came into the season with six tackles for loss, but he matched that total en route to an impressive year on the Aggies' defensive line, which featured other future NFL prospects alongside him. Teammates Nic Scourton and Shemar Turner are also expected to be picked at some point this weekend.
A native of Miramar, Fla., Stewart played 37 games with the Aggies. After 12 appearances this past year, the junior declared for the NFL draft, forgoing his final year of collegiate eligibility.
He racked up 31 tackles and forced a fumble for a solid A&M defense that was among the country's best against the run.
Most draft experts have Stewart as one of the top defensive end/edge prospects of the class. That shouldn't be surprising, considering he came to A&M as a highly touted five-star recruit.
Here is a full NFL scouting report and draft projection for Shemar Stewart.
Many pundits have Stewart as a first-day pick in the draft, despite his limited production in College Station, thanks to strong testing and game film.

Mel Kiper Jr. rated Stewart No. 2 on his list of defensive edge prospects. In fact, all four of ESPN's draft experts have Stewart among their top-10 edge/defensive end prospects. Various websites have Stewart listed as defensive end, edge rusher and defensive lineman, creating a range of rankings.
Kiper: No. 27 prospect overall, No. 1 DE

Arm length: 34⅛ inches
Hand Size: 9⅝ inches
40-yard dash: 4.59 seconds
20-yard shuttle: N/A
10-yard split: 1.58 seconds
Three-cone drill: N/A
Vertical: 40 inches
Bench press: N/A
Strengths: Play strength, motor, athleticism, size.
Weaknesses: Overly aggressive nature can be a detriment, technique, mental mistakes.
What our reporter noticed: When watching Stewart on film, his athleticism immediately pops off the screen. His ability to reset the line of scrimmage with his strength and his consistent presence in the offensive backfield while also playing sideline to sideline are the main reasons he is viewed as a Day 1 draft pick in most circles. Penalties and mental mistakes seem to hamper him a bit, but if he plays with controlled aggression at the next level, he should have a long and prosperous NFL career.
NFL player comps: Kwity Paye, Indianapolis Colts.
