Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Release Date: December 16, 2011
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Director: Guy Ritchie
Screenwriter: Michele Mulroney, Kieran Mulroney
Genre: Action, Adventure, Mystery
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for intense sequences of violence and action, and some drug material)
Website: SherlockHolmes2.com

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Fry, Rachel McAdams

Plot Summary: Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) has always been the smartest man in the room... until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large - Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris) - and not only is he Holmes' intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder - a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction - all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.

I enjoyed the first until I saw the Sherlock series on PBS and realized how much better that was than the movie.

I really like this series...the casting was great.....in older versions Watson was little more than a man servant to Holmes and I really enjoy the conflict between the two with this version, much more like best friends or even brothers. The added touch of comedy makes the movies a bit more fun to watch as well.

I agree, and I agree with Stout. These movies are a re-imagining of the Sherlock Holmes stories and they work because of the great chemistry between Downey and Law.

I'm happy to see that Game of Shadows is getting positive reviews because I really enjoyed the first one.

was bored to tears by the first one but thought this one was pretty entertaining. solid popcorn flick. Moriarity was a good villain. would have liked to see a little more of him.

That's a surprise, as the second one was more of the same...same awesomeness, of course. Moriarty was already in it way more than he was supposed to be, which is fine, as it is needed for the film version. I don't think the plot necessitated that. Stephen Fry...frickin' hilarious!

This was decent. I really liked Jared Harris and like Cheese thought he should have been used more. One thing that stuck out to me was Jude Law's limp. He only seemed to have it when he had his cane and when he was without the cane the limp was gone. Found that confusing.

I liked this one quite a bit. They do a great job of bringing back little details into the film.

started slow for me then took off. Loved the scene of Holmes, Watson, and the gypsies running through the forest!

I liked it a lot. I liked how it was so different from the first in the sense that it took place in multiple settings in multiple countries, unlike the first movie that took place only in London.

I liked it, I thought it was as good or better than the first. My only complaint was that I expected ALOT more Rachel Mcadams, so that was slightly disappointing.

Loved it. Was perfect X-mas gift. Mother is a huge fan of the original BBC Series. She had not seen the first one. Bought her the movie of the first and tickets to this one. She liked the first one and loved this new one.

I thought this one had much better humor and the forrest scene was awesome.

Outstanding entertainment. While hardly perfect, it was a raucous, action-packed, humorous and well made film. The entire cast turned in top-notch performances. I really, really enjoyed it. An easy 4 out of 5 stars.
