yeah, no kidding. my big money draft ain't until the first week of the season (we're having to institute a new rule regarding that stupid thursday night game. see, we all live around the country and want to be able to watch football together, so we converge on the draft site every year on friday through monday. usually it's been okay. but the thursday night game screws EVERYTHING up - FEH on the nfl and it's money making schemes!). we're doing it in new orleans this year . . . how friggin' great is that?!?

If you keep 4 RBs, Marcel should be your 4th. Here are kerouac9's Top 25 Fantasy Football RBs for the 2004 season:

2. Ahman Green, GB
3. Ladanian Tomlinson, SD
4. Clinton Portis, DEN

8. Fred Taylor, JAC
9. Shaun Alexander, SEA
10. Marshall Faulk, STL
11. Travis Henry, BUF
12. Michael Bennett, MIN
13. Edgerrin James, IND
14. Dominack Davis, HOU

Disagree. Corey Dillon will be a top 15 running back in NE, and no way do I rank Thomas Jones in the top 100 running backs in the NFL, let alone the top 20. Dude can't stay healthy, shows terrible and awkward balance and he falls on first contact. Ricky Williams may miss 4 games as well.

If Tatum Bell is still there, that's your guy. He's got explosive upside, which is nice to have in a bench-warmer.

Edgerrin James looks better to me this year than about half of the guys ahead of him on your rankings, kerouac.

well, i think ya gotta know the relevant stats to properly put the backs in order. for instance, is a TD-only league? TD w/ bonus 3pts for over 100 yards? point per 10 yards rush/rec?

but here's my rankings (early offseason):
1. Priest Holmes, KC
2. Clinton Portis, WASHINGTON (his skills w/ Gibbs? no brainer)
3. Ladanian Tomlinson, SD
4. Ahman Green, GB
5. Deuce McAllister, NO
6. Shaun Alexander, SEA (always seems to be overlooked, yet puts up big TDs year after year)
7. Ricky Williams, MIA (beware the 4 game suspension)
8. Jamal Lewis, BAL (Only because you're drafting now, and you don't want to burn your #1 pick on Prisoner #24601 - agree)
9. Marshall Faulk, STL
10. Travis Henry, BUF
11. Michael Bennett, MIN
12. Edgerrin James, IND
13. Stephen Davis, CAR (beware the vulture of Foster)
14. Fred Taylor, JAX (though he could have a greater upside)
15. Dom Davis, HOU
16. Corey Dillon, NE
17. Curtis Martin, NYJ
18. Rudi Johnson, CIN
19. Garrison Hearst, DEN
20. Kevan Barlow, SF
21. Kevan Jones, DET
22. Tiki Barber, NYG
23. T.J. Duckett, ATL
24. Brian Westbrook, PHI
25. Marcel Shipp, ARI
26. Julius Jones, DAL
27. Duce Staley, PITT
28. Thomas Jones, CHI

I don't know. There's not a lot of rushing in the system that the Pats run. Furthermore, he'll be losing some touches to re-signed sparkplug Kevin Faulk. Dillion might get 1100 yard and 6 TDs, but he's not going to set the world on fire in that offense with a bunch of finesse linemen.

Hey, I think that TJ is going to make a solid, solid #2 back for someone's team. TJ ranked 13th in the NFL last season in YPC (4.6), appeared in 16 games (he's only failed to complete a season due to injury once), lead his team in TD rushes, and will be running behind a decent O-line if everyone in Chi-town is healthy. He also averaged 7.5 yards per reception.

He'll be playing in an RB-friendly system in Chicago, too. Vermeil's offense turned Marshall Faulk and Priest Holmes into MVP-caliber players. Thomas Jones may position himself for a trip to Hawaii come February. His QB situation is a reason for concern, but that's probably the primary one.

This I agree with. The QB and WR situation in Miami is troublesome. That being said, though, I think that every season you can pretty much etch 1200 yards and 10 TDs in stone for RW.

Really? Who? Edge may be in a contract year, but I think he'll be sharing carries with Mungro (a big no-no for me), and I don't think that he's the explosive back that he used to be.

What six players would you place him ahead of?

Ricky, Jamal Lewis, Fred Taylor, Marshall Faulk, Travis Henry, Michael Bennett. That's 6 of 12, right?

I don't see why Mungro would get enough touches to matter--Edge got plenty of touches when he played last year, despite his knee problem and ineffectiveness. In performance leagues, Edge was a major factor over the last half of the year.

This year, he be more recovered (it's been two years now), even if he'll never be the same. And, he'll be motivated because of his contract. Playing in Indy means he'll get good-to-great stats just because of the system and his receiving skills, as long as he's out there.

JMHO, but I hated his prospects last year, and this year I've got a good feeling about them...

Based on last few years Lack of TDs is risk of any Cardinal you pick. I do not see drastic improvement for Shipp.

Kinda. It's possible. I don't think it's terribly likely, but it's not like I said it would absolutely happen, either.

I am going to echo what Ouchie said and say the rankings of the RB's depend on the league scoring rules. Tomlinson is great in leagues where players get a point per reception.

Think of it this way. I screen pass to LT thats gets blown up for a yard loss (which is like the SD trademark play) is worth as much as 10 yards rushing in leagues that give a point per reception but only 1 per ten yards rushing.

I've been in leagues like this, in '99, guess who won the league.

If Shipp can stay healthy and keep the starting job, he will make a decent #2 RB because Dennis Green uses the RB so much in his pass schemes.

I do believe Shipp will keep the job though, if only because I don't see a suitable replacement on the Cardinals roster.

Anything less than a 1000 yards rushing and 300 yards receiving for Shipp would be considered a disappointment and probably mean the end for him next season.
