Do they have any tackles that have an upside? Maybe a LB or Corner.

i can think of one...first name is tough to spell...and last name is an old buffalo bills quarterback....just time for a little levity!!!!

seriously though...nothing very special that they would trade.

Well, the Jets have Anthony Clement playing behind Ferguson. I bet we could get him back for Shipp. Marko Cavka is their other backup tackle (RT). Three-year veteran and spent this offseason in NFL Europe. Maybe we could get ILB Darrell McClover or CB Ray Mickens.

But none of that is going to happen, and it's even less likely that Marcel Shipp rates a second-round center without showing anything. If they traded Marcel Shipp, I think that the best the Cards could expect is the same fourth round pick that the Texans reportedly offered, maybe with an escalator to a 3rd if he ever scores a TD ever again.

According to Urban today, Shipp is 3rd string. I doubt we could get more than a 6th rounder for him.

What did the Saints get for Michael Bennett? Take that, then add a day to it, and you'll know what we'd get for Shipp.

It's all relative. Ron Dayne is currently 3rd string on the Broncos RB depth chart...do you think all they'd get is a 6th for him? No way.

Shipp is 3rd string because we have Egde. He might be starter if we didn't. Our depth chart is not reflective of his value (in general terms--that's not to say we could get more than a 6th rounder...but if we don't it doesn't have a thing to do where he is relative to OUR rbs).

Yes, it is all relative. And, in my relative opinion, Dayne has far more value than Shipp. Dayne was good last year, Shipp's last good season was in 2003. And, Mike Bell is a far shakier #1 than Edge, to put it mildly.

I'd prefer it if you were right. The depth chart shows the relative value of each player to their team. More telling would be the number of carries in preseason.

For what it's worth, The Sporting News Scouting Guide rates Shipp as the 56th-best RB in the NFL, overall grade of 6.6 ("Adequate Starter"). They rank him right between Ciatrick Fason and Duce Staley.

Actually, (and this will come as a surprise to no one) that's a lot higher than I'd rate him. But these rankings are a little funky for my taste. Cedric Benson's the 20th-ranked RB, and Thomas Jones is 26th, two below Frank Gore? Willis Magahee is 16 and Rudi Johnson is 8? Who writes these things?

Bennett's last good year was 2002.

So was Marcel Shipp's unless you count a 3.6 YPC average and 0 TDs on 228 carries a "good year."

In limited action last season, Bennett averaged 3.8 YPC (similar to the 3.9 he averaged the previous year) and still managed to score 5 TDs in a mere 150 touches (carries and receptions). If Shipp found paydirt at the same rate, he would have scored 15 TDs in the last three seasons.

You said to take his value in draft picks and add a day for Shipp. Do you really think he's that much better than Marcell? If MB scored 5 touchdowns that means there were 5 gaping holes for him to run through. I don't know what kind of condition his legs are in now but pre-injury he was the fastest RB in the league. He is not, however, a shifty runner. He doesn't have any more of a nose for the endzone than Shipp does.

And we'd have Mercedes Lewis holding out instead of Matt Leinart.

I do think that Bennett's that much more valuable. I mean, at least if you gave him a gaping hole, Bennett would be able to run through it and would know where the end zone is.

Shipp isn't a shifty runner, either. If he were, he wouldn't have gotten slammed in the backfield as many times as people here think.
