The New Orleans Saints have made a couple of big moves this offseason, but one spot that remains as a massive need is at cornerback.
While the Saints could certainly go with a cornerback in the first round with the ninth pick, they might not love the value there. That is especially the case in Will Johnson goes before that slot. Jahdae Barron is the only other corner worth considering there, but he is more of a slot/nickel guy.
New Orleans may be better off shopping around on Day 2 for a defensive back, which is where they love to target that position anyway. One of the more intriguing names to watch there is East Carolina defensive back Shavon Revel Jr. He could end up going anywhere from late in the first round to anywhere in the second, but it is easy to see why a team would fall in love with him.
A torn ACL just a few games into 2024 kept him to really having just one year of tape, but that year was fantastic. When watching what has been put out, his ball skills and build shine. He knows where to be and can make up for mistakes when they do happen.
Over his last 15 college games, he had 62 tackles with five for a loss and a sack, he also had three interceptions and 15 passes broken up. He showed off his speed with two defensive touchdowns. He is tall with long arms and possesses true 4.40 speed. With so little playing time in college, he will likely need some time to adjust to NFL schemes. He has the hustle, instincts, athleticism and size to do so quickly. If he works out, he could become one of the top cornerbacks in the league and a team like the Saints can gamble on a player of this caliber in the second round.
