Should the Cards go after KJ?

Kevin Johson has just been released by Da Browns...the Cards should:

  • Go after him, and sign him. He would really open this offense up!

  • Stay away...This is a less talented David Boston..besides I like our young and developing Wideouts.

  • I'd luv to have them but this is the Cards...no way he signs here.

Wow I really Like KJ and think he could help open up our offense ! I say bring him in, but I doubt the cards will. I have always liked his attitude, but for some reason he remids me of kasper. Always in the dog house for doing nothing wrong in the publics eyes. I guess who know behind close doors what either one of them did ?

I would love him here, but it won't happen. If he does some how miraculously end up here I owe some beers.

This will be a distraction for the Browns all week...Let's hope the Cards can take advantage of this situation....The Browns fans are calling Davis' head after this one.....

He has to clear waivers...then he becomes a free agent and can sign with whomever he wants...

A proven commodity who can score touchdowns. Still young but able to provide veteran leadership ala a Frank Sanders last year.

Sign him tonight and have him help gameplan for the brownies.

Q: Remember what happened to the Patriots after the Bills signed Malloy a week before they played each other?

A:The Bills killed 'em.

Anyone else find it fishy why a guy is just cut? Maybe the Browns know more than everyone else. I say stay away.

And thats why I think that it won't be here.

Although maybe he looks at the compitition at that position with all teams and see's that he has a good chance of being a starter here.

Who knows.

It's not like we'd sign him to a long-term contract with a signing bonus. He'd play out the rest of the year and probably be gone. He's better than Gilmore, Kasper, and Poole and would help us win games, this week especially.

I'm refering to picking him up off waivers.

Could we just as easily cut his ass as did the Browns if we picked him up off waivers? Anyone have a salary cap manual handy?

I think if we pick him up off waivers and then waive him, then we are responsible for the rest of his signing bonus. Unless of course someone else picks him up off waivers after we waive him.

Is he potentially better than Nathan Poole?

For $400k worth of cap space this year, you add a player that probably makes you better, and you can see if this might be a player that helps.

If the Cards see he is a player that can start and contribute -- and he sees that the team is a great opportunity -- you have a player for a very reasonable $1.4mm next year.

If he is a bad actor -- you cut him at any time, and all it has cost the Cards is some 2003 cap money that was going to be lost anyway.

If anything -- claiming him off of waivers at least sends a message to the fans that the team is going to be aggressive in searching for players who can help.

Numerous times this year different players have been on the NFL scrap heap and fans scream about signing these players. I typically have been against the majority of these signings.

This is not the same scenario in my book. KJ has proven NFL talent and fills a position of need. I believe the Cards should go after a vet FA WR this offseason anyway.

The downside is:

The 2 mil signing bonus issue.

KJ's lack of speed. The NFL is all about speed and teams that have that uncoachable comodity typically win more games than they lose. Q is not a speed guy but is obviously so talented in every other aspect of this game he over comes this. Is KJ this same type of player? Can he give the Cards what they need at WR which is true speed and receiving skills?

As many have posted KJ is an upgrade over Poole, Gilmore, Kasper and the injured McCaddley. For this year he is an upgrade over BJ as well.

The only true miss by RG this offseason was not signing a vet WR. Here is the opportunity to address that mistake. Unless the cap would be hindered for next year sign KJ now.

There is no bonus issue. Any bonuses paid in the past by the Browns are their cap responsibility.

I have not been able to find anything that indicates Johnson is due any roster bonuses, etc in the offseason -- but even if he is-- its the offseason, and the Cards would get the remaining 7 games to determine if he is worth it.

Johnson is exactly what we need to fill the gap while we wait for B. Johnson to fully develop.

What a kick ass group that would be....Johnson & Johnson set wide with Boldin runnin the slot.... Man that would be sweet!:D

I'm sorry but if our passing attack is going to be at all successful, then we need someone better than B. Johnson to start opposite of Quan.

Agreed. Boldin, Kevin Johnson and Bryant Johnson really would shore up the position. Gilmore is a decent 4th option. Release Poole.
