Should the Cards go after Warner's Bonus $$ If he retires?

Per Urban The Cards can go after for a pro-rated portion of last years signing bonus since it was based on a two year deal. Would you agree with them doing it like me? Or do you think it does to much damage in the "Bidwills are cheap" dept. that we hear so much.

Agree. Need the money to fill other holes. I believe it is 7.5M. Could be bad from a PR perspective, but perfectly legitimate from legal/business sense.

Do you honestly think they just poney'd out the money and signing bonus based off two year deal "knowing " he would retire? Does that even sound very Bidwill like to you?

I care. The uncapped year is irrelevant. Like aj asking the question "Why do you care how the Bidwills spend there money?"

This team and its owners even with the new stadium don't have endless revenue streams like the Jones', Snyder's and Allen's of the NFL. They still have to be fiscally responsible and not just spend money for the sake of doing it.

Just because the year is uncapped doesn't mean the Cards can just afford to let millions of dollars go to a player you are getting no production out of. Especially an amount they are giving/gave Warner.

I spend a ton of cash in support of this team. I think I would rather them save money where they can so they can help themselves put a better product on the field later. That only increases my enjoyment of the product I put so much money into.

But that's JMO. Obviously.

If CARDS go after the bonus money, we will hear about it. Agents will take this fight to the public court. Remember the FEDEX fiascao, the news on Plummers retirement and how TB went after the bonus money.

This might sound bad but I would be in favor of them going after the money for the simple fact is, if he did not jump on a plane and head for San Francisco he would not have got that money in the first place. He clearly was making a business decision at the time and I have absolutely no problem with the Cardinals organization making a business decision now.

So, if Warner retires, he does not have to give anything back and the Cards do not have to go after "it" at all. They just agree to not pay the 2010 deferred part.

If Warner thinks that is not fair, then he will have to pursue the issue.

I think both parties were concerned about Warner retiring and planned the contract accordingly.

But what if 3 months down the road Warner is sitting at home and he has 7 kids nagging him for money. Brenda is beating him up for not taking out the Garbage again.

He might have second thoughts about his retirement. I say keep him on our good side.

I seem to remember Warner being rather stingy about a contract last year.

The Caridnals need to keep themselves level headed, and worry about nothing but the team.

Warner has enough $$$ for 60 kids for 3 lifetimes.

I hope Graves or Bidwill are there at the conference and they get asked about it. I'm sure they will either decline to answer or probably not even take questions in the first place. Still I'd be interested to see what they say on Kurt's day in front of his whole family.

I wonder how many of you would pay someone an extra 7.5 million dollars for which they hadn't fullfilled their contractual obligations; just because you wanted to be nice.

That's why I think tomorrow's press conference will announce when he will finally announce his retirement.

Without question they should go after it. You don't think that 7+ mill can and would affect other restructurings or FA signings. As Joe always says, its not really the cap you have to concern yourself about, its the amount of actual cash the Bidwills are willing to put out each year in bonuses, etc. Collecting it could be the difference between signing someone like Merriman, restructuing Dockett, Boldin or Rolle.

Also keep in mind that Warner and his agent were fine with the two year deal, and probably requested it so they could get more money upfront. And then there is always the SF fiasco, which was a ploy to get more money.
