Should the Cards go after Tony Brackens and enter camp loaded at DE position? Brackens had started 15 games for the Jags in 2003, and had 39 tackles and 6 sacks. I think this would send a message to the entire defensive unit in terms of competition.

It is possible that a major reason why the Cards offense performed better that the defense last season, was because the Cards entered camp with at least 7 WR competing to make the team.:bhiich:

It would be nice to get him, but due to age and injury question marks, I doubtCards even consider him.

I think we should only sign FA DE and CB as well as drafting them!! No other positions! Except maybe Manning or Big Ben in rnd 1. But then nothing but D baby!! Can we cut Pace and Bryant yet? Or trade them for picks? Yes, I suppose I am getting ahead of myself but not much production last year.

Ahem! A marquis receiver to play opposite Boldin. A nose tackle who can squash the run.

And, yeah, another CB. Those are the priorities.

But, as Denny has already pointed out, we don't want to bipass better prospects in order to fill a roster hole with less talented players regardless of position because we won't upgrade the talent level of the overall roster over the long haul.

Sure we should strengthen ourselves at CB, DT, WR etc. But once we feel we've done so, we should pay attention to other positions - for example: we have potential vulnerability at center and on the right side of the offensive line.

At this point, we've signed 4 guys. Before free agency started, Graves said we should expect 3-5 guys signed as opposed to the 7 we signed last year.

I think we're going to sign a kick returner and be done in free agency. We'll have the draft then. But, the real fix of our team has to come from the new staff getting better play from the players already here.

Too bad we only signed one real starter. 3 starters as opposed to 1 starter and 3 good 'depth' players would have been nice. Oh well. We didn't need to use all that cap space any better. *shrug*

Perfection is never achieved, of course we could've done better.

Denny will most likely pick up some veterans that are cut after June 1st or during training camp to add depth and would be at league salary minnimum.

Dude, I know we need another receiver, but I don't know why you insist that the receiver be a nobleman.

The problem is, we haven't even had a really good FA period, let alone a perfect one. Are our pickups solid pickups? Sure. The pass-rushing DE is the big pickup, of course, and we got some good depth signings, who may be able to spot start. SHOULD we have gotten more than one certain starter? Without question. 2-3 solid starters, with the FA money we had and the talent pool out there, would have been doing a good job. Plugging 5-6 starting spots, or all spots we need covered-THAT would be perfection, a perfection even I don't think we could have attained.

Chidi Ahanatoe is still available. He might upgrade us a bit. We can lose some of the stumble bums that we have and bring in quality depth.
