I would absolutely hate to see that happen but I get the feeling Joe will get atleast a $10 million offer (or maybe even max if he plays great in the playoffs).

Are there any good trades for JJ? Keep in mind that if the Suns choose to trade him for a big man, a backup pg for Nash would have to be included.

No. I think he's the type of player that when he's gone, we'll be much worse off. What he brings to the table, especially for this team, is an all around game that rarely takes a complete night off.

I highly doubt that.

Only ATL, CHA, CLE, DEN, SEA and LAC will have enough cap room to offer a big contract for Johnson.

Reportedly ATL's priority is signing of Dalembert and Watson plus they have Smith, Childress and Diaw at SG/SF.

CHA is super-careful concerning their cap room, JJ may change that but it's
not likely.

CLE's priority is probably signing Redd.

SEA probably will re-sign Allen.

Clippers....well it's the Clippers.

DEN probably will have 6-8 mil. cap room and with that offer Suns definitely should have to match because:

1. JJ is worth that.

2. DEN is a rival.

All in all I don't think that the Suns will have too much competition for JJ and even if they will it's not likely they will let him to go.

it doesnt matter what joe is offered it only matters if joe signs an offer sheet. joe is to valueable to this team to let him go i think as soon as the new cba is signed the suns will have signed jj to a new deal.

That's right. Frankly I don't care if there's a good chance he does go somewhere else in the off-season. As long as they stay healthy I believe this team has a legitimate shot at a title. We can argue all day long about what this team will look like in the playoffs, but I think he would be a huge mistake to basically give up that possibility because the suns are afraid he will walk. It would be a PR disaster. That's for sure.

I agree. Relatively few RFA's move unless the former team is under major financial constraints or the player is extremely unhappy. Neither holds true for the Suns.

Not with the way the team is playing right now. Unfortunetly, JJ may be playing his way into a big contract offer this offseason.

I think Joe likes his role on this team. If he goes elsewhere and signs a big contract the expectations are going to be enormous. We were all afraid that he would go into a shell this year but because his role is not as important as last year, he only has to step up when the other three are having off nights. He is not a me first guy and is better suited for this team mentality.

darius miles and stromile swift WANTED to leave their teams but couldn't do it because of the prospects of a matching offer. the suns aren't known as a cheap organization. current CBA rules mean you make and offer, and 15 days pass before you know what happens. this is a risk most teams will take only as a last resort.

on top of that, i would imagine the suns would themselves be negotiating with jj. on top of that, the new collective bargaining agreement will most likely lower his price. i believe max deals will be 5/6 years rather than 6/7, raises will be somewhat/dramatically less than the 12.5% they are now, and 'max' deals will be less than the 25% of cap that they are now.

add in the backlash that i believe will occur because of the uselessness of the excessive spending last summer (etan thomas, adonal foyle, derek fisher, etc), and i don't think there will be alot of bank breaking for jj.

furthermore, a successful season this year (2nd round or better) would make it a tremendous PR risk to let jj go even during the off-season. right now, the fans of phoenix are developing a relationship with the players, you don't want to mess with that. in the long run, making the payment may actually end up making money for the suns.

JJ will get more than 6-8mil. They would have signed him already if he wanted that kind of money. He won't get a dollar less than 9 mil I guarantee that.

The suns took a gamble by not signing him and it's gonna cost them a lot more to keep him.

From Today's Chad Ford chat:

They want [Dalembert] and probably would give up one of those guys [Quentin Richardson or Joe Johnson] to get him. Many teams around the league believe that Dalembert is going to very, very good. He'd be a perfect fit in Phoenix. I just think the Sixers aren't ready to trade him just yet.

Probably you missed the post what you quoted above. Which team will offer more than 6-8. mil. for JJ?

Where would JJ or Q fit in Philly? They just drafted Iguodala and they have Iverson at SG.

JJ has all the tools to slide over to the 3. There's no reason why they couldn't play JJ, Iggy and Iverson at the same time. JJ would also be able to handle the ball on offence and allow Iverson to run off screens etc...

That being said I would hate for the Suns to make this trade. JJ is a BIG part of this teams success. Why would anybody tear apart the best team in the NBA?

If the Suns hit any major speed bumps before the deadline it might be a good option but if they still have the best record forget it.

Just because teams don't have the money now doesn't mean a thing.

At this time last year NOBODY thought the SUns would be a major or even minor player in free agency.

Iverson is their PG. They played Korver or Green next to Igoudala. Both JJ and Q are better players than Green or Korver so it would make sense for PHI.

There is just one Isiah Thomas. And he doesn't have expiring contracts anymore.

The price of cap space has been pretty high lately. It is easy to speculate on how somebody can move a few players to get space to make an FA bid, but it cost the Suns a first round pick to get rid of White who had only one year left on his contract.

Most teams aren't prepared to bid on a RFA knowing that the former team is likely to match after making the bidding team wait for 15 days. For example, Swift did not get an offer in spite of being an attractive prospect.

Usually, the player's agent talks to some teams, gets an idea of what is feasible in the FA market. If the team agrees, the guy re-signs. If not, then they try to work out a sign and trade such as happened with Kenyon Martin.

Q has proven to be more erratic than JJ. JJ has proven to be a more reliable 3pt threat, something that we need to open things up for Amare. I would rather see:

Q
Hunter
Vujanic

for

Dalembert
Iggy

Philly's not gonna be trading their 1st round pick of this year (Iggy). Besides, the Suns shouldnt be trading ANYONE right now!!!!!!

I've been watching Sammy for a couple of years now and I agree that he would be a good fit in Phoenix, but my concern is this:
The Suns believe he is going to be very good. JJ IS very good right now, so at this point, I'd say, "No Thank you."

Another thing to remember is that Phoenix has no bench. If either JJ or Q go, they will have to sign somebody else to give them something off the bench (assuming Dalambert is inserted into a starting lineup)
