I stand corrected on the QBs in the Superbowl.

I'm not against taking a QB if one happens to fall there but I'm not for TAKING A QB FOR THE SAKE OF TAKING ONE. Some people get this damn obsession with the QB that they refuse to look at any other position.

If Green and Graves like a QB then take him by all means, but don't just take someone like Cutler because Mel Kiper likes him and he's the only QB available. Take him if you're sold on him

I agree with you as far as not taking a QB just because you want one. That said, I actually like Cutler alot.

And some people get this damned obsession with NOT taking a QB in the first round that they make up statistics as reasons to pass on the position.

I'm all for looking at other positions. In fact, if V. Davis is there along with Young and Cutler I think it's a toss up. But, when you really need a young QB with promise, drafting Young or Cutler doesn't seem to me to be taking a QB for the sake of taking a QB--it seems like the prudent decision.

Especially when you have no legitmate backup and your starting QB is made of china.

I didn't say don't take one. I said take one if you're sold on the guy. If we go back to reaching, we've returned to the same old cardinal mistakes.

Only if our FO is sold on them. Just because fans and Mel Kiper likes Cutler doesn't mean Green does.

If he decides to choose him, so be it. That means they like the guy. I just don't want to go back to the days of McGinnis where our drafting strategy either involved reaching or trying to please the experts.

I trust Green and his judgements more than I trust Kiper or any other draft "expert"

I don't think we will take a QB in round 1, but just for talk if Young and Cutler were both there at ten..Graves and Green take Young. IMO Cutler is closer to ready and Young has a bigger upside.

Agreed on the premise, and I think this is the year we do like a QB. Kiper has actually jumped off the Cutler bandwagon, although after today's workout, he'll probably jump back on. Cutler threw in bad wind today and is reported to have nailed almost every throw with perfect passing motions. We'll see if that's corroborated. I like the kid, and I wouldn't be terribly upset, but more nervous, if we take Young. Leinart would scare the crap out of me.

Confirmed but I think (and hope) Game tape will be the deciding factor in bringing him in. I still think if Vernon Davis is there, he's Denny's guy but I'm starting to wonder if he'll be there

Cutler Shows Off Timing, Arm at Pro Day
Posted: March 17, 2006

Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jay Cutler displayed his skills at both at the Senior Bowl in January and at the NFL Combine last month. On Friday, the quarterback showed a little bit more at Vanderbilt's Pro Day on a cold, windy day.
Working with his own receivers, Erik Davis and Marlon White and tight end Dustin Dunning, Cutler looked at ease, making mostly strong crisp throws with timing and plenty of arm strength despite less than ideal conditions with temperatures in the mid 40s and a steady breeze.

The Southeastern Conference player of the year was watched by scouts from 25 NFL teams. He is pegged as a Top 10 pick, one of three quarterbacks who will go high. Matt Leinart of Southern California and Vince Young of Texas are the others.

Cutler said the workout was comfortable.

"I've had a good time with these guys. I know their speed and know where they're going to be in their routes, and I know they were going to catch it for me," Cutler said. "It was cold, and the ball was real hard. But it was fun. There's been a lot of anticipation up to this point. But now I can just relax and start working out again."

The Tennessee Titans, who have the third overall pick, had a contingent watching Cutler that included general manager Floyd Reese, offensive coordinator Norm Chow and quarterbacks coach Craig Johnson.

The Titans staff already knows Cutler well after having coached him at the Senior Bowl.

"I just wanted to see him on a day like today with it being a little bit colder than it was down there in Mobile have the same type of day and make all the throws that are necessary to make," Johnson said.

Reese came away impressed as well.

"He threw the ball well. I think you saw a variety of things. He threw the ball on the run and under a little bit less than ideal conditions," Reese said. "He came today and performed, and I can't imagine too many quarterbacks performing better than he did today."

Another Tim Couch? Highly touted QB from a bottom of the barrel SEC school.

Speaking of those kind of QB's where is the Pillsbury Throwboy, the 250lb QB from Kentucky, playing these days?

Tim Couch had a weak arm coming out of college. Cutler does not.

I agree with your reasoning, Shane. As good is Cutler was, it still scares me that he played for a losing program. A great talent at Qb should be able to get a college team to a bowl. My 2 cents.

He's still a backup with the Giants, but he has yet to get in an NFL game.

Thanks. I liked watching him play at Kentucky even though I only got to see a couple of his games. Be watching the GMen to see if he gets any time in preseason.

Bringing in Brooks is like morphing Plummer & Blake into one huge turnover machine. 11 of the 12 teams with the best positive turnover ratio last year made the playoffs.

Not to throw facts in the way of your argument but Brooks has 133 TDs(rushing & passing) and 107 turnovers (84 INTs & 23 Fumbles lost) in his 85 game career (1.25 turnovers a game).

By comparison...
Plummer 1.4 turnovers a game
Favre 1.4
Brady 1.1
Manning 1.1

I wouldn't exactly call him a turnover machine...thats ignoring the fact that he is about average in that department. He'd be a good back-up and I'd much rather have him backing up Warner, he's talented and he can be counted on when Warner gets hurt inevitably this year.
