Lot more involved in tanking than just losing games. One has to have a plan of some kind which includes cutting your older high priced players in order to have cap money to buy a couple of the younger stud FAs (instead of letting them go as we sometimes do). Then rebuild your team around your best young players, a couple of young top FAs, and then have a great draft to fill in the remaining most important spots. If not mistaken, I think the Jets are doing just that this year.
When we are free of Harry Fitzsimmons and Palmer Carsons salaries, we could replace them with low cost rookies and use that money to buy a couple top FAs. Just basic math, economics, and little luck in designing a great draft.
By the way, did you catch the success, I think it was the Vikings, who trashed their whole OL from last year and built a totally new one this season. They appear to have done a good job by not wuss-footing around with OLmen who couldn't get the job done. Maybe we need to take a lesson from that.
